BW I think you're right but I'm struggling to work out what it could be. I've already cut out the usual suspects for reflux, citrus fruit, tomatoes, fatty foods etc so it's just really dairy but he isn't bothered by the formula so not sure if that's it... The losec seems to be kicking in and the meantime I'm just being extra careful with what I eat.

That's why I asked what kind of formula you're using - dairy is the most likely culprit, so if it's a dairy formula then not that. Been thinking about you and hoping things settle for you and Finn.

lise, which formula are you using?

Sam has a mild dairy intolerance but has always been ok with nan HA. Even though it's a cows milk based formula, it's always been fine. Regular cows milk still causes issues for him at 20 months old. We are slowly getting him onto lactose-free UHT milk, but aren't sure whether it's the lactose-free part or the UHT part that makes it ok for him. He's fine with custard.

It seems that the partially hydrolysed proteins in the formula were enough to make it ok. Cooking the milk makes it ok. I've heard of kids that are ok with regular UHT cows milk but not regular cows milk from the fridge section.

Just want to put it out there for you. Just because the formula is ok doesn't necessarily mean it's not the dairy.

When he has formula it's S26 Gold, first ingredient is lactose. Interesting to read though that maybe he can tolerate the formula but still have an intolerance. Something else to potentially cut from my diet - I'm going to have to talk to a nutritionist as I have food allergies myself so already have a limited diet...!!

If he's tolerating s26 gold, then I would think that it's not a dairy issue. Sam was fine with nestle nan HA, but any other formulas would lead to rivers of puke. He was a very chucky baby, but the puke from other formulas was a very different consistency and had an absolutely foul smell in comparison to what we got from the nan HA. These days the evidence of his dairy intolerance is found in his nappies - foul-smelling and much runnier than normal.

A friend of mine has found that the culprit in her diet that was upsetting her daughter was wheat. But I think the visit to the nutritionist might be a really good idea - one would like to think that she could at least point you in the right direction for which foods to suspect.

Hello all! Finally - and after a very timely reminder from Lise - I'm back on line! Hello to many of you, I've just read this thread and it sounds like all your babies are super lovely except when teething so hopefully I get one too : )

Lise - I so so so wish I'd read this thread in the last 4 weeks 6 days - I'm having all the same problems you are bar the reflux. Won't sleep anywhere but on me, won't really sleep at all and certainly not in the bassinette, very short feeding cycle, macerated nipples, baby full of snot etc. And had mastitis, which was something I would not wish on my worst enemy. But as I write this, and I don't want to jinx it but she's asleep... hurrah. I've been to the MACH, extra midwives trips and a GP trip in tears later: and I'm now propping up her mattress, using a vapouriser, doing one formula feed a day, and expressing twice a day and it's all getting better (I think). Now she smiles, and I can't think of anything nicer, it really does change everything doesn't it...

Re feeding, don't forget the ABA helpline - they're there 24/7 to offer support and advice.
Do you have a sling or wrap? They're often the best things for during the day - it's totally normal for babies to want their mummies all the time. It's hard work, but best to make things as easy on yourself as possible. Smiles certainly help!

Wow all these newborn issues, it seems ages since we've had some little babies in our midst and even though you are all going through some rough times we are all thinking of you. Although I must admit at the time the problems seem like they will never go away but before you know it they will be approaching their 1st birthday's and all the stuff in the early day's will seem like a blur. I can't really remember too much about those first few weeks now and my baby is going to be the big 1 in 6 weeks time..... that time has gone by so fast.

Life is back to normal now that DH has gone back to work after 2 weeks holiday, I don't know if having him home was good or bad though as it just seemed to create extra work. Although we have finally sorted out the house a bit better with some room rearranging, primarily moving the spare bed from Tara's room so she now has a big play space as well as her sleeping area. We thought we better get some type of playroom sorted out before we get hit with first birthday then Xmas presents. Oh, Tara's latest thing is to now point... It is making life much easier for me now as she will point at things that she wants instead of me having to guess, apart from that she also waves hello & goodbye which is very cute. When we say hello she will wave and when we say bye bye she waves also, so at least she seems to understand the different words. She also understands the word 'kiss' as when I ask her for kisses she will lean in and give me a big sloppy kiss on the lips, although anyone else only get kisses on the cheek.

What else is happening.......

Oh, I also have my day 14 scan booked in for Wednesday to see if things are moving along nicely for hopefully another FET next week. I'm really relaxed about it all this time as I'm so happy with my little smiley bundle of joy that if things don't work out then I have 1 precious gift anyway. Anyway better get moving and put the oven on, we are having roast chicken with roast veggies for dinner tonight and then a caramel self saucing pudding for desert....mmmmm yummy....

I have to change the number of teeth Sam has... now 15 with one of his lower canines popping through. Will be 16 very soon by the looks of things, and then hopefully a break before he starts working on his two year old molars... who am I kidding?!

Londonmiss - Welcome! I have been waiting for you to arrive here! I read something recently that helped me with the whole settling, crying and sleeping drama. Cannot remember where I read it but it was 'a baby's natural habitat is their mother' All of a sudden it felt perfectly natural that DS wanted to sleep on me or next to me, wanted to be in my arms (or DH's) constantly and was only happy in the sling. We are primates...our babies only recently stopped clinging to our fur in human history!! Makes 21st century life pretty damn hard but it is only for a short time really in the whole scheme of things. It is exhausting but it will pass. I still sleep whenever DS does and I have just said to hell with housework (not that I am particularly houseproud but I think the whole 'career woman must be achieving something daily' doctrine spills over into the house when you are not working anymore!!!) I also am about to have a big bonfire full of parenting books! The Bounty and NHS book is top of the pile!!! Looking forward to hearing more from you!

It's soooo nice when the teeth are done.

Poppyfairy, Sam had no teeth at all until he was 9 months old. At 9 months and 1 day his first two teeth popped through, but we'd had teething symptoms on and off from about 5 months old. He then got another four around his birthday and it's been full on ever since! He tends to go with the later side of things, so I'm really hoping we have a break for a while. Poor kid has always cut them in pairs or more. Molars were tough - three got through with the first try, then one went back and the last two popped through together. The lower canines have been moving around with his upper ones the whole time, but the upper ones got through and finally now that he's only working on two teeth again it's bliss! You barely even know he's teething at the moment!

Marcellus, until we get to do it all over again as baby teeth get wobbly and adult teeth come through! At least then they can tell us if something hurts and are probably over the chewing and drooling on everything phase! I wonder if I can convince Sam to put his amber teething necklace back on at that point in time...

Hi Girls

I've been busting to get on since Monday when the server crashed and bummer about all the lost posts, but wanted to let you all know that on Monday (6dpt) I did one of those nasty POAS's and get a faint second line. Did another yesteday and today and yep there is a second line. BT next Monday so can't wait to find out the numbers to give us an indication if it's one or two along for the ride.

Hope you are all well, we all have colds here at the moment (Tara's first one) so panadol and hugs for my girl but mummy can't take any of the good stuff.

Kelly, CONGRATULATIONS!! That's fabulous news :) Looking forward to seeing your numbers - are you hoping for two?!

Hi All

Well I'm feeling crappy today, I've got a cold and I just feel like ****. Tara still has a bit of a cold but some panadol for her and she feels much better.

I did my last POAS this morning (I've got none left) and that second line started coming up immediately and is as dark as the control line, so all looks good so far.

So anyway, is there anything I can take to help with this cold or should I try and just keep up fluids and get some rest to try and get over it that way. I don't want to take anything that will interfere with this pregnancy.

Kelly - my midwife at the OB's office always said that Panadol and Panadeine were safe to take. If you want to err on the side of caution I would just stick with the panadol as it doesn't have codeine in it. Also, you can get a saline solution nasal spray to help with congestion. Apart from that it is just lots of rest and fluids.

very tired as bub was awake from 3.15am to 5am for no particular reason I could discern other than sore teethies. Both his top middle ones are nearly through :) So he'll have 6 once they come up but it looks like the bottom incissors are pretty close too! argh.

I know one of you girls had this issue with your little girl (Janie i'm thinking it was you for some reason) so looking for some suggestions. Bub is now standing, sitting himself up, crawl and has shown the first signs of furniture cruising so very busy. But when we put him to bed it's like he can't switch off and is constantly crawling, stnading, sitting up in bed (mostly while rubbing his eyes and crying !!) So I'm being suckered in to rocking him a lot to get him very very very 'toasty' (dh and my word for nearly asleep - derived from coma-toasted lol) But i'm worried i'm teaching him bad sleep habits ie not falling asleep by himself.

SO how do you get them to 'switch off'? We do a wind down, sing twinkle twinkle, cuddle and have quiet time before every bed and he is usually very sleepy. he'll stay put for a few mins but 10 mins later i'll check him and he's migrated.

Grub if you want to rock him to sleep go for it, but my suggestion would be leave him, as long as he is safe let him go. Campbell will often talk to himself for a while before he falls asleep and has always done this. And Xavier is always put to bed awake and he goes off quickly. Is he sleeping late in the day, maybe he is not quite ready for sleep. Sorry I cant be of anymore help. Luckily both my boys have been easy in that department.

As for the sleeping, Tara is going through a stage of wanting to be held to relax to go off to sleep and I don't mind it as I'm sure that soon enough she will change her mind and not want a bar of me. We also have the sitting and standing up when tired although Tara will sit and play in her cot for a while and then put herself to sleep - currently this is happening around 4am when she wakes up from a sleep cycle then sits up in bed has a play and then crashes again after 20 minutes or so. I have laid awake watching her on the video monitor the past few nights but last night I went back to sleep cause if she needed me she would cry out..

Grub, I think you have to just play it by ear. You'll figure out through trial and error what he needs from you and what works best. If it's teeth, the it may all just settle down on it's own in a little while too.

DS always had a very hard time relaxing to go to sleep - either because he was uncomfortable for one reason or another or because he just didnt' want to sleep. It's heaps better now and we can leave him most of the tiem to sort himself out, but that never worked before.

Cooking up a baby food storm. Fruit of every colour of the rainbow, oh hang on ne green will have to get some kiwi fruit. Veg tommorrow, and we will be all set for a few more weeks.
Funny how different kids are. Campbell would not have a bar of jar food and would only eat home made food. Which was a bit of a pain and Xavier will not have a bar of the bottle which I tell you is a big pain.
I have a problem. I am wanting to do some relief work next term as I am going stir crazy at home ( I am not to proud to admit that I am a better mother when I am working). Do you think it is unfair to leave Xavier with a friend if he wont take a bottle. He will survive school hours without a breast feed he will just need to eat more during the day. Let me know what you think I am feeling a bit guilty about leaving him.

How old will X be by then? If he's eating and drinking other things and able to make up the breastfeeds when you're around it may work out fine.
Will he take a sippy/straw cup at all?

He will be about 8.5 months then. I am only avaliable to do it one day a week as the rest of the week I am driving C here there and everywhere. He will drink water from his sippy cup but not formula or EBM. By this stage he should only be having 3 feeds a day. We are trying to cut as many as reasonable out because of my pelvis. The doc have wanted me to wean him since well forever but I wasn't willing to do it. But now that he is a bit older and I am ready to really have a good go at my rehab I need to cut the feeds out or down if I cant stop them all together.

What's the go with your pelvix? Is it a hormonal thing?

Yeah its a hormonal thing. When you feed you release oxytocin which helps keep all your joints loose. Not a good thing for me. When you are not having a baby your pelvis is relatively solid. It doesnt move very much. Mine moves so much that When I was preg I couldnt even walk. It is beginning to stiffen up but still gives me grief. I am having prolotherapy which is injections into my pelvis and they are starting to work but I need to give myself the best chance of recovery I can. I would say that my pelvis is the only reason that I wont consider having anymore babies. We mix formula into Xaviers food to ensure he is getting enough milk. I try and get in at least 100ml in his food then make the other 400-500mls easier to get through limited feeds. He is a very good eater so that helps.

Wow, I didn't know oxytocin did that! (well, I knew it was involved in triggering letdown, but not the pelvis bit). Is that like the relaxin that's released during pregnancy, or does it have a different effect? (sorry for the questions, just curious)
I've only experienced very mild pelvic discomfort in pregnancy - well, it bloody hurts but nothing like SPD or more serious conditions like that - but I can imagine that would be a deterrent to future pregnancies :hug:

Yeah that is what they tell me. I dont know exactly how it works but I guess it just keeps you in that pregnant hormone state to some extent and that is how the
SPD happens. I am also hypermobile so my joints are naturally loose. But I cant complain to much I have 2 wonderful boys and are otherwise healthy and I really am on the mend. Thankfully My DH is also one in a million and does all the housework without any complaint.

oh saph that sounds just so difficult esp with a baby and antoher child! good luck with it. Ash is only having 3 bottles a day too... and also a very good eater. ox
