Now, this reminds me - For those who haven't done so already, perhaps when you get a bit of time (say, sometime in the next 6-12 months for newbies) you could share your success story.

BG sorry I didn't reply to your very helpful input regarding solids. Unfortunately my diet is very bad, high in salt and fried stuff... if not that it would soupy stuff so not so good for Lyla. But she show such eagerness to eat food that are not mashed that now for dinner I generallty just cut up fruits or steamed vegs for her to munch on. She now recognises (or understand the word water vs food) food from drinks. She loves drinking but doesn't like certain food and I would often have to give her both, alternating so she would continue to eat. The other day DH was feeding her and after a few spoons she clamped her mouth shut and wouldn't have any more. He then said "water" and she automatically opened her mouth for daddy to pop in a spoonful of water. What DH doesn't know was she wouldn't understand conditional sentences so when he said "eat a spoon of this and daddy will give you some water" she opens her mouth expecting water but instead got a spoonful of food. She gave him such a look, which I interpreted to be "what the? Why did you deceive me?" DH got a no no from me.

Kelly - wow Tara seems like a very strong girl...bet you she would be an early roller, crawler and walker as well.
Grub - no set routine but generally, Lyla would have her bottle at 5 pm, play, dinner at 7 follow by shower and then bed at 8 or 8:30ish with or without a bottle. I generally feed her more often even though I know she would not wake to ask for it, ie I dream feed her at 9 or 10ish pm and then again at 6 am (or else she wouldn't feed until 8 or 9am - if she is awake at 6am she would not feed, outright reject the bottle). She is one of those lazy feeders in the morning. She wouldn't have a decent feed until the afternoon. I would be lucky if she feed her normal full bottle (230ml) before 1pm. I tried once to wait until she ask for her bottle as well as dropping the dream feed at 9pm and she went for 13 hours without a feed. Now that she is eating solid I am not so worried about how much she feeds so I play it by ear...if she feeds well in the morning that I forgo the dreamfeed.
Poppy, I am so very proud of your efforts. I gave up after 3 weeks. I learnt my inability to express milk is not a reflection on my milk supply but by then it was too late, Lyla was so used to the bottle she outright refused to take my boobs. The other day, while playing she accidently pulled down my top and saw my breast. I waited to see what she would do. She leaned down and smell my nipple but other than that had no idea what it is or what it could have been. It made me cry for the wonderful thing we both missed out o, for the what could have been. I just thought, "these boobs could have been her world" but it was not meant to be.
Sorry really have to go to bed now. But just a quick report, Lyla is now walking! For the past 3 days she had attempted to walk around the play pen and cot, supporting herself on whatever she could hold onto, cot rails. Fell a fair few times but just kept at it.
Wow Kahlan, how advanced is Lyla both with recognising words and also with her walking. Mmm, I also think Tara is going to be advanced as in those areas as well. My feeling is that these little ones had to work so hard to get here to start with that they must be very strong willed beings.
Was interested to hear about your solids adventure, I started Tara on solids last week just a couple of times to see her reaction and have moved onto giving her solids and 1/2 a normal bottle once a day now. She is getting the hang of it and I know she is ready as when she sees the spoon she has her mouth open ready. I must say (TMI) it has also helped wonders with her BM's as well, they are no longer runny explosions but now have some consistancy to them and we don't seem to have had an upset tummy with adding the solids. To start with I've been giving her rice cereal mixed with formula and also pre prepared food (rafferty's garden and organics) to see how she goes before I start prepping vegies to cook and freeze. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for her to start wanting more solid food.
Anyway off to Mothers Group this morning, but of course little miss has only been asleep for 15 mins so might delay leaving for another 15 to give her a least a 30 minute sleep.

ATM Lincoln put on weight but did a BIG poo right before weigh in so he was 30gms under birth weight oh well. DH found a lump on his collar bone the other night which is making both of us worry. No pain and he's still using his arm on that side but doesn't like to sleep with his head that way any more (in hosp it was his fav side). My pediatrian is away so I'm going to a clinic today. (worry mum alert).
The lactation nurse said I should wake him 3 hourly during the day to get his calories up so he sleeps more at night. Well we tried this for three feeds yesterday and nope 3 hourly on the dot. Maybe it takes a while.
I had two marithon feeds too last night. I was so tired at his 5am feed I got a little distressed and decided to try feeding lying down (not a good idea) made me more tired and didn't really work.
Bubs has a bit of an upset tummy too. Not uncontrolable but he's bringing his knees up and is unsettled for a few minutes, seams to calm down when on me. Just need to make sure he's not really screaming when attaching (ouch!!!!!)
Neptune: We have a high chair that reclines slightly but haven't used that, I have been using her bouncer so she is not quite sitting upright but still sitting up enough to eat.
Back from Mothers Group and weigh in, Tara is now 6.455kg's and 62 cm long. She is now more than double her birth weight (by .055grams) and is above average in weight & height and way above average in head size... I keep telling DH I am not going to put headbands on or ribbons in her hair as it will just make her head look even bigger and I was right she has lots of brains in there
