Parenting after LT TTC #5

Hi All

Just dropping in to update you all, been really busy so once I've caught up on everything I'll be back with persies.

Tara had her needles yesterday, only a little cry but today we have a couple of nice red mark on her legs...ouchy... and today was weigh in and drum roll.... my little porker now weighs in at the hefty total of 7.9kg's. For the girls who are interested I also got back today Tara's portfolio photo's for her child modelling, here is a link if you want a squiz

not as good as the real things but will give you an idea anyway. But wow her hair looks so much fairer in these photo's than the normal reddish colour, so will be really interesting to see what colour she ends up.

No time for persies either, just wanted to say hello to all the lovely mummies and their bubs today.

Thinking of you all.

I recommend spending time there -Better to panic before the critical moment (when it doesn't really matter). That's what I reckon anyway.

sorry girls no other persies here tongiht. we are having what i assume is a wonder week - he's 17 weeks tomorrow and it's been the week from hell!!! feeding every 3 hrs overnight, not having his long (6 to 8hr) night sleep, not resettling by himself, not going into his cot for sleeps during the day unless already passed out and even then it's pot luck.. brh.

I got one 2hr block of sleep last night and the rest was snatches of an hour or less!!!

OMG i think this child is trying to kill me! and wake up... his wakes not with a lovely little call-out for me but in a full throttle scream.

Does that sound like wonder week to you girls? or perhaps teeth? or something 'else'?

gotta run. dinner hot... must feed me!

Pretty happy with the pic's Grub, I don't think there is anymore room for any extra chins though :)..

And guess what my friend "Wonder Week" is at 19 weeks but the book says the stormiest (sp??) for this leap occurs around the 17 week mark. Sorry to say looks like the cyclone has hit your house....

Went to WORK (OMG) today to get some idea of what I'm in for tomorrow night and wait for it out of 6 units there will be one (ONE) client in, so it's movies and chat and that's it with only ONE client, how lucky am I.

As I walked out the door leaving Linc with Nana today BIG SMILES and when I came home, made me feel better, now for the big test Daddy over night. Nervous.

That's great that Linc was happy with granma- Hope daddy also does well :hug:

well he slept 'normally' last night :) yayayay and i got AF this morn... this is exactly what happened a month ago... so not sure if it was wonder week (it certainly works in the time) or due to the hormonal changes with AF.

Any thoughts?

suppose i'll just have to wait a month and if it happens again then its definitely AF and not WW. bugger.

Then what to do? oh geeze.

Get ready for it, this is going to be a big me post - sorry girls, haven't had time to read all the posts, but just need to let you know what has been happening with us.

You all know the difficulties that we have been having with Jazzy being sick. Well it all came to a head on Tuesday night. I had taken her to the GP during the day only to be told YET AGAIN that she had another viral infection and to just to the normal, panadol/nurofen, rest fluids etc. Anyhow I was about to leave the rooms when I noticed that behind J's left ear had got really red. I mentioned it to the GP who had a look and a feel and said that it was nothing to worry about at the moment, but if it got swollen or sore to bring her back. Well I thought nothing more of it until DH came home that night and mentioned that he thought J's left ear was sticking out (I hadn't mentioned about the ear to him as the GP made out it was nothing to worry about). So I had a feel around and it was tender and swollen. Rang nurse on call and they said get her seen by a doctor within 4 hours. So off we went to Royal Childrens. Triage nurse sent us through to the after hours service down the hall. Finally we were seen and the GP took one look at it and said that he had to go and speak to the paedeatrician (sp?) to get some advice. When he came back he took us straight through to a cubicle and said that a doc would come and speak to us some more. Turns out poor little J had mastoidititis which is an infection that has moved past the middle ear into the madtoid bone behind the ear. She was immediately started on fasting and organised to have a line put in her little hand (horrible experience). Once the line was in they started her on IV antibiotics and fluids. She was just miserable.

We got admitted to hospital about 2am Wednesday morning and the ENT registrar and consultant came to see us later that morning. They asked us all about what had been going on and they informed us that it was more than likely that she had an undiagnosed middle ear infection for the entire course of her illnesses - that is almost 6 weeks!!!! Needless to say we are changing GP's. The consultant said that the fact she has been febrile for most of that time should have rung alarm bells with the GP as she would not have been that way with just an URTI virus. And over time it has obviously spread into the mastoid bone.

Jasmine was taken to surgery at 11am that morning. She had all the pus cleaned out of her little ear, they inserted a grommet to help with further draining and they also cut behind her ear done to the bone to check for an abcesses (which there wasn't thank goodness). You should have seen her when we went into recovery. She had this massive bandage on her head as there was an external drain for the wound behind her ear. They had also moved the line from her hand to her foot so she had a big splint on that. She was miserable but alert and responsive. I tell you, next to hearing her cry for the first time when she was born, hearing her cry after the surgery was nearly as sweet - she was alright.

So we have been in hospital since then on IV anitbiotics. The external drain came out yesterday and they also started her on ear drops. We got discharged this morning with oral AB's for another week and ear drops for another 2. We have a follow up appointment with the hospital in 2 weeks then will continue to go and have check ups until the grommet falls out (about 6 months). She is not allowed to swim in indoor pools (outdoor and the sea are okay) and has to now have showers not baths to minimise the risk of water getting in through the grommet.

The main thing is that she is okay. The staff are just amazing and we truly thank them from the bottom of our hearts for taking such good care of her.

JANIE!!! omg!! are YOU okay love? Poor little jazzy. I hope you are going to make a complaint to the doctor's surgery, that is really terrible they didn't pick it up.

I nearly cried when reading. i can't imagine how scary and upsetting the whole thing would have been. I would have been sssooooo mad at that stupid gp.

I was just popping on here to vent and have a rant about hat a stupid selfish a**hole my DH was being tonight when I read your post... I think I'll shut up now!

How terrible for you, must have been the most horrible experience! Good to hear Jazzy is alright and hope she continues to make a speedy recovery. :hug:

Janie, that sounds very, very scary and I really hope you never have to go through anything like that again! I'd be making a complaint as well as changing GPs - that's just shocking that they missed something like that!

We've had a run of bad nights here - my munchkin man appears to have forgotten how to sleep through the night and I can't remember the last time he didn't end up in our bed. I don't normally have issues with him being in with us, I kind of like it - but my pain levels are such that I really need my bed space and to be able to wiggle and toss and turn until I'm comfortable - and you can't really do that with a toddler in the bed!

OMG Janie how horrible for you, DH and especially Jasmine. I'm so glad you got such good help at the hossy and now you know the reason for Jasmine being so ill. I'm so happy she came through it and is on the mend now.

Oh my goodness Janie - that's an awful story. Thankfully at is all going to get better from here. Gosh you must be fuming. It's so awful to see your little darlings sick and there is nothing you can do to help, but love them and cuddle them. You knew something wasn't right - I only hope that your GP learns a lesson - don't dismiss a mum who just know's that something is not right.

Janie what a big relief to have a diagnosis and some solutions. Hope it's all still on the up and up :hug: to you and family

ATM just started my shift and there's not much to do so I though I'd pop in and see what's happening. Linc hasn't slept very well today hope he's good for dadddy. He's started waking up at midnight again too :wall: then 5am then wont go back to sleep really well :wall:

afm..charlie is going soooo well sleeping great to bed at 8pm wake up at 3am back to sleep till 7am AWSOM and only 4 sleeps to go till we moove yippee cant wait :dance:

Janie, how awful, what an ordeal. Glad she is on the mend and that you now know what was wrong. That GP is unbelievable! I can kind of understand the virus part, but to ignore that red ear is pretty poor!

on a great note GUESS WHAT !! my girl went to bed at 8pm last night and woke up at 5.30am had a bottle and went back to sleep till 9am:leap:im so proud of her.

Linc slept 7-4am but I woke up at 3am and didn't really sleep till he got up :wall: was waiting. Then he was unsettled due to a thunder storm, not crying just needing his dummy and mummy. I wish he'd sleep with me in my bed but he wriggles so much I don't think he likes it.

DSS is getting his L's today (hopefully) DH is sad,
Lincoln is now in a big bed no basinett :cry: I am sad, he still looks so small but it is time.

;) omg green did she howl ,she cried the most shes eva cried since birth it was sad ,but i think your rite its the sound of the gun that frightened her more than anything as 2 girls did it with 2 guns so it was quick and easy,as for being red,they were only red for a couple of mins and now there all good :clap:youd swear shes had them done foreva.oh boy she looks so dam cute too i got silver to match her blue bird braclett:D so happy i got them done now though rather than later they look beautiful.

Well... two days down into the current school term and I'm already feeling ready for a holiday. Doesn't help that we are dealing with timetable changes, technological glitches and I still can't confirm exactly WHO is in the new class I have taken on this term. Oh yeah, and a couple of teachers stranded in the UK and obviously no work to do with their classes... :wall: Not their fault, I know, but it is hard on those of us who have to try to figure out what to do with their classes for now.

Anyway, the chatter of recent weeks is coming to an end, I guess. I just want to make sure people know that it's not because I don't love you any more, it's because I'm just completely swamped at work - and term 2 is always a rough term with half yearly exams and reports to write.

I'll still be reading - just finding the time to reply often will be difficult.

BG - I hope today went ok and that it wasn't too traumatic on any of you. :hug:

well as you know today miss c had her ears done and the chemist here in town has none of that ear spray left,nore did the beauty salon so im useing medi wipes is there anything else i can use ??

i would just use salt water - alcohol wipes may be a bit too drying on sensitive ears. E had hers done at 12 weeks and when i left the spray at mum's, that is what i used

Hi everyone

I'm still here, just been very busy lately. Just a question for our mums with older bubs..... Tara was up about 3am last night vomiting and also had a couple of bouts of diarrohea (sp??). She didn't have a temp and she wasn't upset or cranky about the vomit everywhere. After I stripped her down, gave her a wash and dressed her again she thought it might be a good time to have a play :wall: and she even had 1/2 a bottle at 5am this morning, which she never does but I think it might be because her tummy was empty. So anyway this morning, she was up bright and early and seems like nothing is wrong at all. She has had her morning bottle and is now back in bed catching up on the sleep she missed last night.

Any ideas what it might be??? Maybe just a bit of a tummy bug, or could it be teething?? The MCHN told me last Thursday that Tara has no sign of any teeth at this stage and she thinks she is a long way off getting them (I was 18mths before I got my first tooth)... but could she have been wrong..

Anyway off to get the washing out of the machine, had to wash al the spewy clothes and bed clothes from last night :shakehead:.

Hi Kelly, I guess I'd keep an eye on her and definately watch out for a fever or anything else untoward. Sometimes they just throw up or have the runs, and then seem fine, so hopefully it's nothing to worry about. :hug:

i probably wouldnt go out of my way to go to the beach - if you make a salt water mix at home, you'll know it's "clean" - at the beach, there is a risk that there may be some contamination. plus, you make up one lot, let it cool and cover it, and you can use it for days and days at home

Kelly, it sounds like a bug hun. keep an eye on Tara and if she is in any way different to her normal self (less energetic, more sooky, temp or spewy/runny nappies) pop off to the doctor to get her checked. i know she's only six months, and from memory i can't recall what point you're at with introducing other fluids, but i would suggest having some water available for her to sip at all day and keep an eye out for signs of dehydration (sunken fontanel is a key sign, dry mouth if she puts her finger in your mouth...). if she wants more drink today, do small amounts so as not to overload her little tummy - it will be rather sensitive and if it gets overloaded she will just sick it all up again.

hope she is doing much better through the day today


AFU - started back at work yesterday. no tears, no tanties - hell, i don't think she even noticed i was gone!! i guess that's the upside of gradually increasing the time we spent with my folks the past few months - spending a day with granma wasn't abnormal! work was as BORING as all get up - i missed the interaction with my girl - but i survived. they're not fully retraining me, which annoys me (not trying to brag, but i'm good at my job) - they're paying me good money to be a glorified receptionist. oh well, at least i'm still getting paid good money! E is in a fantastic mood today - she slept 12 hours last night with two feeds (dream feed when i went to bed, and another when Daddy got up for work) and is so chipper today. i was worried she'd be over tired after her day at Granmas, but she had a sleep for 20 mins yest morning, 2.5hours at lunch, and then 10 or 15mins in the car on the way home - so she obviously found a sleep pattern that worked - she's now on the other side of the foot stool from me, doing all she can to get at my drink - laughing, chatting, smiling - sooooooooo glad i'm not having to try and "sort" an overtired monkey today - i've got MY girl! woot!

Glad your first day back went well BG, or at least E had a good day! That makes it much easier on mum

:redface:oh yeh bg i didnt even think about the water being yukky so ive just made up a mixture like you said and covered it over ;)so now i guess i just dip a cotton ball into it then clean her ears with that ?

and i very happy your day yesterday was ok hun and also glad your girl is chipper and happy today :D
