Welcome to all the new ladies and great to see how everyone else is progressing.
AFM, our beautiful baby boy was born last Wednesday at 5.16 pm, 7lb 10 oz and brings us joy every day. His name is Nate, short for Nathaniel.
I was due on July 5th and went to my OB on the 7th and the bub was still high and mobile and not even close to being engaged, my blood pressure had gone up for the first time in the pg and after a scan the amniotic fluid was okay but could get low if went too long, So I was booked in for a C-section for Friday afternoon, which we thought was going to happen as bubba had not moved in about 5 weeks .
So we got ourselves ready for a Csection for Friday and planned what we do for the rest of the week, I unpacked our labour bag on Tuesday night.
4AM Wednesday morning I woke for a pee and going back to bed had the stragest pain and I thought it was just gas or something. Anyway I had the same pains for a few hours and at 6AM had a showing and realised that it wasn't gas but possibly labour !
I woke my DH and by 7AM the contractions were 20 mins apart but very intense and I was already having to breath through them. We called the hospital and they said wait and hour and call back.
At 8AM we went to the hospital to be monitored to check my BP and bubs heartbeat but assumed that we would be home.
At 10 AM our OB came to see us and was amazed to find I was 5cm dilated and bub was engaged and we were in full on labour !
I started to use the gas at this time and it was great, it doesn't make the contractions go away but it sure gets you through them. My contractions were very quick and I moved to 9 CM dialted by about 2pm. I was exhausted and didn't think I could get through the pushing so had an epidural. If I had my time again, I wouldn't have had the epidural as I was so close to the end of the contractions and the loss of sensation when pushing made me feel that I was really doing it even though the midwife kept assuring me I was.
We started to push about 4pm but bubba couldn't turn enough to get through so we had a vacume assited delivery and with about 3 major pushes our baby arrived.
I can honestly say that I would do it again tomorrow as birth was just an amazing experience. I had a fairly easy delivery and escaped in tack with only a slight graze and one stitch so I was up and about the next day and have had very little discomfort since birth.
It is the most personal experience you can share with your DH and whatever approach to child birth is the best for you and nothing else matters when you see you baby for the first time.
