Hey Leabie and S'rose - I think I might disappoint you here, but I was in the same boat and felt like a bit of ditz. That heartbeat that you heard for a few seconds was probably your own. My FS didn't bother to inform me at our 7week scan that it was mine, that you can't hear bub until around 10weeks. I had to find out from the nurse who said that a lot of people think it's the baby, so it's probably the fault of the obstetrician for not realising that some of us haven't done this before and we just don't know.
When you do get your next scan you'll hear the difference in the heartbeat, it will be heaps quicker :-)

Hey Renee - I went for my nuchal test scan yesterday, (so it was a day before 13 weeks) and you are going to be so amazed at what you can see. I counted fingers and toes!!! I'm hanging out for you to get your scan so you can let us know what you saw. Our downs syndrome chance is 1/11500 so very very low risk therefore we don't have to get any invasive tests done (amniocentesis). The awesome thing for me and DH was that our EDD has changed from 19/12 to 15/12 which is the date that I worked out based on LMP but the FS said it was the 19th for some crazy IVF reason. Bah! Bub is apparently 'perfect' and measuring 6.5cm, yet it was the 7week scan that it was only 0.65cm, amazing how quick they grow.

Brunette - your new independance sounds great, however now it means housework :-(
Sorry to sound ignorant but can you explain the identical twin thing to me? I thought you had 2 x embies transferred in, so does that mean that 1 didn't stick, and the other split into two?

Leabie - good that your acupuncture is coming to an end, they must be pleased with your 'pulses' (ha ha). My last session was last week and he said that unless I get heartburn or really bad back down the track then he doesn't want to see me.

Juniper - sorry to hear you're suffering MS - on a positive note when I saw my FS/OBs a few weeks ago he said that MS is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. I then had to say to him that I haven't had ANY.... he didn't comment further, hmpf, typical.

AFM I have hit 13weeks and I'm feeling great, except for the constant bloated feeling and the tiredness, however I've had both of those for weeks so nothing new there! And tonight I took out my horseshoe earrings that I've been wearing since EPU and ET. I feel like I've hit a milestone, and can now start planning the nursery. (got the Mountain Buggy Swift so DH can jog with bub, and an Angelcare monitor that is really cool - it has movement sensor mats that go under the cot mattress and after 20 seconds with no movement the alarm goes off! Also picked up a 0-18kg car seat for $139 on sale at Target over the weekend). Next on the list is painting the nursery (DH, not me!) and cot etc. Phew!!

To everyone else, big belly rubs and hugs to all

CK-77~ Congrats on making your milestone! Welcome to your second trimester...the easy part.(Third is full of new fun LOL).
Lise~ hope bub is making some signs he is on his way soon enough.Thinking of you.
Paula~10 weeks to go!! Yay!! On the home run!!
Everyone else who sent their kind wishes and thoughts my way regarding my growth scan...THANKYOU xx
I received a letter in the mail today with the full run down of Mondays scan.Bub is perfect size (if not a little big,57th percentile) and her head measures 29cm.Not too bad to push out but it WILL grow bigger...gee wizz! Cord is flowing well, heartbeat strong and placenta nice and high in the front.Fluid good etc etc so it was a nice read.
Have decided today that HCF sucks!..after being told months ago that i can claim my ante natal classes,i found out today that as i have top hospital cover but NO extras, its not covered!! I was so annoyed as i had been told i would get $100 back.Anyhow i thought oh well..what can you do..BUT the B*#@H behind the desk said to me " You must have misunderstood, because you are pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!" I felt like leaning over the desk and slapping her.I promptly came home and called HCF and reported her rudeness to the manager.I am waiting to hear what they say. What a rude cow. (Rant over)

    Today i bought pj's,labour nightshirt,breast pads,maternity pads so i can get my hospital/labour bag ready.So exciting!
Have my ob app tomorrow and am interested to hear what he says about my teeny tiny baby actually being a perfect size baby. Will updat tomorrow.Off to fb and ebay now.Goodnight.x

Renee - thats brilliant news about your nuchal translucency scan - what lovely odds! And congrats on taking out your horseshoe earrings and finishing acupuncture, glad that you've reached that point. I like that monitor you got - my SIL has one too, great for peace of mind. I think I'll be getting one. Too soon for me to start shopping though.

As for the heartbeat - hehe - for my scan it was definitely the baby's, I didn't hear it, the OB just showed me some wavy lines on a graph and said "that's the heartbeat". If it were mine, I'd be in serious trouble - it was going at 179bpm! Look forward to hearing it down the track, for now seeing it is just as satisfying.

Renee - so sorry that nothing seems to be working for your MS, you poor darl. And metallic taste on top of it - thats just not fair

MissK - great to hear that everything is going great guns! Sorry you didn't get to see more action on the screen. Bummer about the anaemia, I just got told that I am as well - red meat just is sooo unattractive at the moment

Paula - great news that the OB is happy with your progress. Good luck with your GTT next week. I too have PCOS and was diagnosed with insulin resistance a few years ago, had a GTT the other day but thats because I've been naughty and not had one for 3 years... oops!

Nina - hi! haven't met you in these forums before, hope you're doing great.

Hi to all you other lovely ladies I've missed!

Hiya. Sorry I've been missing in action, my laptop has completely died, and I'm completely incommunicado (now on DH's laptop). I'm so frustrated - our DVD has died, and it's Euro region and we're going to have real problems replacing it (reasonably!). And my laptop - only 2 years old and it's $1500 down the swannie. And with DH away for a week - it was so frustrating. I felt a bit isolated, and even had to resort to doing the ironing to entertain myself.

Anyway, enough whinging. Hello all! Lise - how is seduction central? Any twinges? Some days I forget I'm pregnant, some days I think I'm only days away from giving birth... The four ladies from my yoga group are going for our first coffee next week, I'm so excited.

I won't attempt personals now, I've got too many pages to catch up on. Just two things to comment on: I would be a lot more happy about reheating something I'd cooked myself than something I'd bought. That way you are sure about the quality of the ingredients in the first place, sure about the way you cooked it, and how it was cooled. Second... If you don't want to eat meat, try dried apricots and broccoli... there's a lot more ways to get iron than dead things.... Floradix is very good too. I think you can help it by having vit c at the same time, or it might be the other way round, look it up in the internet.

Hope you are all well x

Renee - I do remember that awful metallic taste...I use to get it occasionally, I found if I drank coffee/tea it made it worse...Not sure if thats the same with you.

Ck77 - Wow, you have got a lot already!! I just love baby shopping, and can spend hours just browsing through the isles!! Glad everything was well with your scan.

wantbaby#2 - sorry to hear about your run in with HCF, what a rude cow of a woman that you spoke to - hopefully they will take your complaint seriously!! YAY for packing hospital bags. We have started to gather some items to start ours in the near future, it's a very big "Wow this is really going to happen" moment!

Leabie - Hi!! Congratulations on reaching 9 weeks hun.

LM - Sorry to hear about your laptop hun!! Yikes I don't know how I'd survive without mine. Can you get someone to take a look at it? In case it's saveable. With the region DVD's, I know if you purchase certain types there are ways you can make them region free. I think it's little things you can do to them (like codes) - you can sometimes buy the instructions online. Hope that helps.

AFM - Doing well, actually had a little slip this morning and fell against the bed rail. I was surprised at how calm I was, rang Maternity and they told me to have a cold drink, lay on my left side and see if I can feel bub move in the next 20 mins...I said "But he's moving now?" She laughed and said "That's a good thing sweetie"...He has been moving all morning, checked HB on doppler, which is well and I was told to watch for cramping or spotting and if it starts go straight to ER. I need to be more careful, I'm so front heavy lately!!! But glad little McPeanut is going well.

    Morning ladies,

It really doesn't pay to stay away sometimes, so many posts to catch up on!!

Chrissy - congrats on passing the 13 week mark - have you told all your family and friends yet? That was so much fun, I loved doing that!

LondonMiss - I know how hard it is being at home without a computer, I hated it which is why I went and bought a new one even though I really shouldn't have...! Hope you have fun at coffee with your yoga pals! A group of us from my antenatal classes have been catching up, it's been lovely to have some company!

Leabie - glad you got to see the heartbeat, it's an amazing thing to witness isn't it?

Wantbaby - don't you just love health insurance? I"m just waiting for ours to say something like that. Mind you, i'm a bit annoyed myself with our OB at the moment - was talking to other pregnant ladies who said as soon as they paid their OB the 'planning and management' fee they hit the Medicare Safety Net and are now reaping the benefits. That hasn't happened for us yet and apparently the way our OB itemises that fee is that it's planning, management AND delivery, so until all three have happened we can't claim things back??? Not so sure about that so will have to do some digging.

Renee - sorry about the metallic taste. I didn't experience it so not sure how to beat it but I know it's very common so i'm sure if you do some Googling you'll find some answers.

Ninah and Miss K - hello! Hope you're both going well and look forward to reading where you're up to

Paula - how did your GTT go yesterday?

Leabie - glad your acupuncture sessions have decreased a little - IVF and pregnancy can be an expensive little trip can't it? I hit my limit months ago for claiming back on acupuncture through my health fund so now I just have to pay full price...

S'rose - sorry your first scan was rushed, in my experience the rest are lovely and long and you'll have heaps of time to see your little one xx

Brunette - so what wild adventures have you been up to this week?!

Juniper - I think others' have covered this already, but in regards to leftovers I would only eat it within 24 hours and that's if it's been stored properly at the right temperatures. DH loves it because suddenly all the leftovers are generally his now

AFM - I'm the same same same. OB appointment on Tuesday - NOTHING has changed since my last visit, even my blood pressure was exactly the same. The chicklet hasn't engaged any more so doesn't look like i'll be going any time soon... I haven't actually tried seducing DH yet - we talk about it in a half-hearted way but to be honest by the time he's home from work i'm generally too tired to do anything, plus i'm not exactly feeling very sexy at the moment so although my mind is right there i'm afraid my body isn't coming to the party...! But as of today, even if I go over then i've got a max of 4 weeks to go so i'm trying to find some comfort in that. Physically, i'm actually okay, some cramping and my back is sore and I can't really get comfy, but emotionally i'm so ready for the Chicklet to come out! I feel like i've got the worst PMS EVER to the point where I even feel sorry for DH because he's copping it all the time. The number of times i've hung up the phone on him this week...

Went to a breastfeeding workshop yesterday which was really good. The midwife was fantastic, really knowledgeable and very funny - but is it just me or does anyone else think it was a little bizarre that there was a MALE in our class? I didn't care for most of it but I did feel a bit stupid 'breastfeeding' my doll with him there watching...!!

Anyhoo, this post is way too long and my brain is now officially fried so i'm off. Have a lovely day all xx

Lise~ You always crack me up.I hang up on DH all the time but the silly man calls back again and again and again!
Nina~ You poor thing.I always trip and get so scared of falling over.Im glad that your bub is still ok though! Im thinking of wrapping myself in a roll of bubble wrap so if i fall i will be cushioned.
London miss~ I HATE not having my laptop.I really dont know what to do.Its like using my computer is all i know how to do.
Everyone else, glad that all is well and that your pregnancies are coming along nicely.
Just got back from my ob app..........I said to my ob i have chosen to have a elective c section (due to the terrible birth experience i had with my son) and he said o.k,did a scan and Peanut has turned Breech so at this stage the choice was out of my hands anyhow.I thought she had turned as on Monday she started off Oblique then turned Transverse.Today whilst driving i felt hiccups under my ribs and thought,"i hope she isnt breech" and of course..yes she is! Anyhow the good bit is i finally have a date!! 23rd July!! I get 2 weeks off!! Dr said he thionks bub will be around 7 pound 6 but that was before we booked the c section so we shall see how big she is.Its so nice to have date!! Im so excited.Am waiting for DH to come home now to tell him.

Brunette i too am a little confused about you possibly having identical twins. Arent they meant to be in the same sac?
MissK cheeky already hey?! Great that all is ok though.
Hi Ninah glad to hear that the fall didnt affect you and that bub is moving around lots. We are very close in our due dates :-)
Chrissy getting the nursery ready is so exciting. We are in that process now and loving it!
wantbaby#2 fantastic news on bub being perfect and also on having a date!! Woohoo. Definitely nice to know when its going to happen rather than waiting around. And having two weeks off, what a bonus! What a cow indeed at HCF. Hello, we are pregnant not stupid!! I too am with HCF so may ring them to find out if i will get anything back.
LondonMiss five weeks to go!! Do you have everything ready?
lise my GTT is next Wednesday. Will let you know how i go. Knowing that at the most you only four weeks left must really be reassuring. Hopefully something starts to happen soon for you. As for the male in your breastfeeding class, definitely weird!!

First antenatal class tonight. Have to rush home and then rush to the hospital to get there on time but really looking forward to it!

Leabie, good news that your acu sessions are now down to 1 per week. Have you got the results back from your GTT? Re being told your anaemic, are you on an iron tablet? My FS put me on a high-grade one a few weeks back, and I think my haemoglobin level was okay. Precautionary I suppose. The one the pharmacist recommended for me is Ferro Grad C (small bottle with red label). It has vitamin C in it which helps with constipation - not to get it, that is!

Renee, you poor thing with not only MS but now the metallic taste too. FX it will end once you hit your second trimester!

Paula, good news that your OB says you are progressing nicely. GL for your GTT next Wednesday and hope you enjoy your 1st antenatal class tonight.

Miss K, you made me laugh when you said you did a few starjumps to see if bubs would play ball and turn over! Sorry that you couldn't see all you wanted. Have you also thought about taking an iron supplement like the one I just mentioned above to Leabie?

CK, great news on your nuchal scan result and on reaching the second trimester. I'm still wearing my horseshoe necklace every day! My nuchal scan is next Wednesday and I am pretty worried about it (hence still wearing the necklace every day!) but FX all will go well. You are certainly buying up a storm for the nursery. Go girl! The car seat you bought from Target sounds like an absolute bargain!

wantbaby#2, Great news that your bub is in exactly the right percentile. No doubt a great relief for you. I agree about how rude that woman was re the health insurance, and it's good to complain when you feel strongly. It must be nice having a date, too, with the c-section now planned. FX all things progressing well for me, my FS has already mentioned a c-section and with twins it's probably the prudent thing to do and follow his advice.

Lise, re the planning and management fee, it's probably different in different states, but our fee for this is to be paid at week 20. Medicare still covers or gives you a rebate for it, but thanks to Rudd it is now capped. So even if you have hit the safety net, you only get about (depending on what fee your FS/OB charges) a quarter back! Rudd obviously doesn't want Australian women to have babies! Damn, shouldn't go there because I could go on and on about him at the moment. He is my local federal member and his office is less than a kilometre away. I would dearly love to protest outside - not that he's ever there anyway. Rant, rant, rant! How weird that a male was in your breastfeeding class, and you make me LOL with your doll. Not long to go now. Re my wild adventures, my FS said I could drive this week. So I have done two little quick trips to the shops, and it was weird how scared I was being behind the wheel again but also great! I'm off to see the movie Harry Brown tomorrow, too

Hi Ninah, glad that everything is well after your fall. No doubt very reassuring to have a doppler at home.

LondonMiss, when we first moved in the house and I was on home/bed rest, all we had was this crappy old computer with outdated software, a wireless internet connection which constantly dropped out and no home phone. No wonder I nearly went crazy until all technology was connected - which was well over a week! So I totally hear you not having a computer. Wondered where you had gone to. Welcome back!

AFM, I am week 12 tomorrow - so hard to believe. I have next week off work due primarily to the nuchal scan. Didn't think it very smart to go back to work in that week if the news was not good. So FX and all things going well, I will make a gradual return to work just after week 13. Apparently for me my good time will be the second trimester and then the third trimester I'll just be huge and my FS wants me to stop work at week 25!!!! Does he think we're made of money and also have an endless supply of leave? Aaaagh! Re questions about identical v fraternal twins, DH and I believe that we have fraternal twins (and yes we had two embryos transferred) but apparently one embryo can split within a few days of the other and they can still have their own sacs and placentas and be identical. I don't think it very likely, but if they are the same gender then really the only way of knowing (to my understanding at least) is to have the placentas tested after birth.

Hi and belly rubs to anyone I have missed!

Brunette~ Congrats for your 12 week mark in 1 hour and 41 minutes!! YAY!! I remember being SOOOOOO excited to hit that mark. I love twins. We have 12 or so sets in my family.
Regarding the rebate from medicare it is total S**T. We paid $3600 for my ob and had reached the 80% and all we got back was $460. I almost cried at the counter but then i thought, look, its only money and we are finally having the baby we have dreamt of because of my ob (who was my fertility specialist). We dont have money, whatsoever.I sculpt and create reborn dolls from home and my hubby is almost finished his 4th year as a carpenter apprentice. We just have to budget plus i am excellent with saving but if i wasnt then i dont know where we would be.Its unfortunate the rebate is sooo poor but at the end of the day.."what can you do".( i really hate that phrase as dh uses it all the time but its true.)

Thanks, Wantbaby2! It is exciting to hit the 12-week mark. OMG, I can't believe you have so many pairs of twins in your family! Did you only transfer one embie because of family history?

It's so unfair about the new rule changes, because my DH and I don't qualify for any govt assistance. We would have got two baby bonuses but now that Rudd has means tested it we get nothing. The stupid thing is, my salary is only normal but DH's is higher but he's paying out heaps of CSA so really we're struggling. Plus being at home for 12 weeks has really dipped into my leave, and it seems from week 25 my FS wants me to stop work again! Plus we've now got this huge mortgage with a new house. I hate stressing about money, so totally hear where you're coming from. And you're right: we've wanted to fall for ages and tried so much, but wouldn't it be nice to not have to worry about money on top of all else? I'm pretty good at saving, too; Coles brands it is from now on with online shopping. My DH not so good. But we'll get there, hey? I imagine once your DH finishes his 4th year, he will be able to claim a lot more as he will be fully qualified?

When we did our first ivf cycle we had 18 eggs,16 fertilised and about 11 to use.Only one frozen took but lost it at 5 weeks. This was back in 2006.Our ob would only transfer 2 frozen but only 1 fresh due to my history. This successful cycle, after stimulation,we only had 5 eggs!!! and by the end of the 5 days,we had 1 perfect one which im now glad to say is my baby girl who is on her way
We will get the baby bonus (thank goodness) and we are paying rent as we cannot afford to buy just yet.We live on mostly woolworths home brand and dh does overtime when he can.Im a bit worried about the next 3 weekends though. This sunday is dh's best mates bday (pub crawl through the city),next weekend is my 32nd bday and the week after is dh 30th bday.I hate to think how much money he will waste on alcohol on sunday and his bday As for me im having o.j so nice and cheap .

Oh I know I shouldn't complain about finances and Medicare, DH and I are both on good salaries so money isn't really a problem. I knew we'd only get the $460 back but I did think that the $3000 we paid would contribute to the safety net and that afterwards we'd get the 80% back from other appointments etc, but not the case. Oh well, i'd spend the money all over again and we will, so we can have more babies

Wantbaby - so exciting to have a date!!! And to knock two weeks off - i'm jealous

Paula - how was your antenatal class? I found them really useful, even though I do heaps of reading (as i'm sure we ALL do!!) so knew lots of it anyway.

Brunette - congrats on 12 weeks, now just the countdown until your NTS which i'm sure will be fine xx I can definitely say that for me the second trimester was the best, even though the whole pregnancy has been pretty easy really, so make the most of it

Ninah - sorry about your fall but glad that bub is still moving around okay and escaped unscathed.

Was up half the night with cramping and a back ache so am quite tired today. Cramping seems to have disappeared but my back is still sore, I think this is just a sign of things to come...

    Hi lovely ladies!

Just a quickie - looking at the posts regarding costs etc - am probably telling you something that you're already aware of, but don't forget that you can claim 20% of any medical out-of-pocket expenses (ie after medicare and health fund rebates) over $2000 in your tax return. So that would include OB fees, and as far as I know, the balance of our IVF? God knows we give enough money to the government, we need to get back every cent we're entitled to.

Brunette - I was looking on the baby bonus website, I don't know your personal circumstances, but one thing I did notice which made me think of you - the $75K taxable income threshold in the 6 months prior to the birth does not include "deductible child maintenance expenditure"? I'm sure you've already done your sums, like I said, it just reminded me of your situation. That totally sucks if you can't get the baby bonus.

Congrats on hitting the 12 week mark! Great stuff, especially now you're out and about in the car. Found out my GTT was OK, but I have to have another one in 6 weeks saw my new endocrinologist last night, he said I'm gonna have to have a few. I'm taking Floradix now for my iron levels, he was happy with that, he said any type of iron is good. Floradix has got vit C in it too, to help stop the constipation.

Lise - sorry you didn't get a good night's sleep, could it be that things are maybe starting to happen?!

Ninah - thanks! So sorry you had your little fall, great that everything's OK though - phew! I'm trip over nothing at the best of times, I'd better watch myself as I get bigger.

LondonMiss - welcome back! Such a bummer about your computer, I too would be lost without mine. Can't believe you resorted to the ironing for entertainment, you must've been desperate you poor love!

Paula - hope you enjoyed your antenatal class last night!

A big hi to anyone I've missed, so much for the quick post!

Brunette well done on reaching 12 weeks! Fantastic!! It does seem to have gone pretty quickly! Before you know it you will be 25 weeks and be off work again!
wantbaby#2 i called HCF yesterday and was told that because we only have general extras cover, we too arent covered for the antenatal classes. As for medicare, here i was ready to take my receipt in tomorrow for my $3,000 expecting to get a good return and now i hear $460!! What a joke! Thanks again Mr Rudd!! Guess i will just have to wait till tax time and hopefully get a good return there.
lise those cramps and aches sure sound promising!!

Antenatal class was great last night. We had a big group of 8-9 couples. Everyone was really friendly and we all got to go around and chat to eachother and ask eachother questions. Watched a video about the different stages of labour.. the birth is next week!! LOL Will be interesting to see DH's reaction to that.

So happy that it is a long weekend!! Hope you all have some relaxing time booked in for the weekend

    Just a real quick post:

Leabie, I thought it was anything spent above $1,500 that you could claim against your tax. I think you get back 20c in every dollar you have spent over and above $1,500 - at least that is what it was last year unless it's gone up this year. Probably due to Rudd! Thanks for the tip about deductible child maintenance expenditure. I still think due to DH's salary we're up creek without the proverbial but I'm thinking of calling the relevant department at some stage just to check if twins get a special dispensation - for anything ... I note you have an endocrinologist; me too. Do you have an over or underactive thyroid? Mine has been doing weird things since falling PG but my endo is getting me to do really regular BTs. I think she upped the dose of thyroxine too soon, and I'm still seeing the results of that.

I didn't realise that antenatal classes were extra again. Can anyone tell me whether there is an item number, or is it simply a matter of calling your private health insurance?

Paula, I know right; back to work for about 12 weeks on a graduated basis - prob no more than 3 days a week - and then back home again at week 25! OMG. I'm going to go off my brain. I am glad there are some nice couples and you enjoyed your first antenatal class.

Wantbaby, there's only so many orange juices you can drink in one night, too, hey?

Hi Lise, thanks for good wishes for my scan next week. Hope the last few weeks go really quickly for you!

To all the other lovely ladies I've missed, have a great long weekend!
