:stork-boy: Luke Peter was welcomed to the world at 11.52am on Monday, 5 July 2010. Weighing a healthy 3.83kg or 8.4 pounds, 48.5cm long. I ended up having an unexpected water birth. Some minor tears but generally a good birthing experience.
Just read back a bit to catch up. Thank you to those who were thinking of me and asking how I was going.
Lise - congratulations on welcoming your little boy too. :bluecheer::bluecheer: I hope you and DH are enjoying the amazing first day!
Mum-2-Be - I hope you have a little fighter on your hands and your little one picks up over the next few weeks. Try and hold out hope that it will continue xo

I will amend the list straight away... gulp as you have noticed... that makes me top. However, I think a natural EDD of the 16th might turn out to be later than a csection of the 19th... although Obs did tell me yesterday that I'm engaging (I assume he means the baby not just my wit and repartee ha ha) and I'm back next week rather than the presumed 2 weeks. Strangely, given it's 6 degrees in Melbourne, he was wearing knee length safari shorts, knee-length hand-knitted red socks and leather brogues. Which shouldn't make you doubt his professional capabilitites, but.........?!

Brunette, it's looking like I won't be able to get there tomorrow. I had been thinking I'd take the day off, but my boss told my client I'd get him a report by Tuesday and I don't know how the heck I'll manage it with feeling so sick and tired. Stupid work... :(
Speaking of 2nd scans, we had ours this morning. Berry measured a day ahead and our FS described the scan as perfect. I can't get over how much s/he has grown in 3 weeks!! We see our OB for the first time in 2 weeks and I'm told she'll do a scan, so hopefully we'll finally get a photo to share!

A huge congratulations to Mitf and Lise on the arrival of your respective sons. I can't believe how many boys are being born this year. Of all the girls I know who are having / have had babies this year (BB and IRL), nearly all of them have been boys. Weird. Congrats again to the both of you though. I'm so excited for you.
So... LondonMiss.... according to that list, you're next. I know it says WantBaby is after you, but I think that's just because I've kept my original due date on the list as 26th July. But as I am booked in for a c-section on the 19th July, I guess I'll be after you. If you wanted to, you could change my date on the list to the 19th, but I'm not really that fussed either way. And then I think from memory.. WantBaby... you're also booked in for a c-section (being on the 23rd)? I can't believe how close we all are to finally having our babies. It still seems very surreal that I am even pregnant, let alone so close to actually having a baby.
Everyone keeps telling me how excited I must be getting to have the baby, and I am, but I'm so nervous too. I might be starting to panic a bit, and wonder if I'll be a good mum, and whether I'll know what to do with a baby when it really comes down to it. I hope some maternal instincts kick in. Anyway, enough of my freak out.
Mum2Be - I'm so sorry to hear your news. I too hope that you have a fighter on your hands though.
Juniper - congrats on your second scan today. So glad to hear that all is going well. It is really amazing how much difference there is in the early stages. And by the time you get to the 12 week scan, it's even better.

AFM - had another OB appt this week but that was fairly uneventful. Baby not engaged so that's a good thing, since I really need to hold out til the 19th for my c-section. OB keeps re-iterating that if I have ANY sign of labour, or any bleeding that I need to go straight to hospital (possibly for an emergency c-section). So I am trying to be as relaxed as possible at home and not do much. Started packing my hospital bag yesterday, so I'm slowing putting things in there as I think of them. DH has me on a short leash too, and keeps telling me I'm not allowed to do anything at home. Which is very difficult for me as I'm usually rushing around doing something.

I'm hoping i can join in here....and really really REALLY hoping i will be staying! I did another ivf cycle last month and ...yah i'm pregnant again! Brief history of me, ttc 5 years, ivf 4 years with 3 miscarriages in the last 2 yrs so as you can imagine i'm very very scared and cautious about this one but trying so hard to remain positive and hopeful that this is finally THE ONE. I am hoping someone can help me with my levels, i am a worry wart and worried that they are not rising as they should? :
15 DPO = 243
17 DPO = 436
22 DPO = 1344 (today, i am 5w1d)
They appear to be rising every 3 days but have been told they should rise every 2 days, is this too slow? what did others have?
I have a lot of catching up to do on this thread, i hope to get to know you all better soon. Have been scared to even announce my pg on here as fear i will jinx it!! silly i know!

Yogi Bear - HI! :hello: and welcome to the thread, congrats on your pregnancy! After what you've been through its understandable that you're not totally relaxed! If its any consolation, my HCG numbers were a lot lower than yours - 96 at 16DPO(11DP5DT), 313 at 19DPO, and 3625 at 27DPO - I was doubling every 2 days to start, then it slowed down to 3 days. I've heard every 2 to 3 days is fine. KWYM about not wanting to jinx yourself, it took me a while to join this group, and even longer to set up a ticker, for fear of the same! You're in good company here, these lovely ladies are a blessing, and always have good advice.
Juniper - great news about your 2nd scan! :clap: Only 2 weeks to wait til the next scan - you'll be blown away by that one! Sorry that work is giving you grief.
Wishes - not long to go for you, either! Your maternal instincts will kick in, and you're gonna be a great mum. Glad that DH is not letting you do things around the house (however frustrating that must be), don't want to over-exert yourself and get bub moving!
LondonMiss - you ARE engaging! Shall miss your humour in here, make sure you come back and give us a laugh when you can. As for your OB's fashion sense - :o that's a classic! If nothing else, it should keep you amused during contractions...

Welcome YogiBear...Congratulations.I understand what your saying about "jinxing" youself.I think your numbers look good.Mine were 400 at 16DPO and then the nurse said 2 days later that they were excellent.I never asked the numbers as i knew id come home and google everything,possibly resulting in uneccesary worry.I simply went of the fact that the nurse was very,very happy with my results. Be positive and enjoy it.I know its hard.I tried for 6 years.MC 3 years into trying at 5 weeks and am now 36 weeks and having my baby girl in 15 days. Fingers crossed for you.xxx
Londonmiss and Wishes~ Are you both having c sections too? How come? I chose mine after bub was breech but has now turned but also due to having emergency one with my son,id rather save the hassle and risk of labour not progressing as before.Not sure im prepared for the pain though..kinda scared actually.

AFM: As I've mentioned before I'm really nervous as I have my 6 week scan next week and then that's it from the IVF clinic, if all is well. I;ve conserved all my energy for just trying to get pregnant and haven't though about what happens after. Are you ladies going private or public, and what influenced your decisions? I'm going to have to make a decision next week if all goes well. Is one better than the other for nervous patients?
Hiya - and welcome! I'm lucky to live in the catchment for a great public hospital and am very happy with the service (other than the dress sense - see above!). The thing that swung it for me, is if anything goes wrong at a private hospital in Melbourne, you end up in the Royal Women's anyway, so why pay to be in the wrong place? I know you get consistency of obstetric care, but they still might have food poisoning/ holiday/ bar mitzvah on your due date and you've wasted ten grand which frankly, I'd rather spend on future education that on consistency of doctor .... but I'm sure others have quite opposite views .....!!!

Lise - Wow, he's so cute. Congratulations again. I hope everything has been going well since the birth.
WantBaby - I'm having a c-section due to the fact I have grade 3 placenta praevia, so the placenta is completely covering my cervix (no choice but a c-section).
Lisa B - I chose to go private, with one of my main reasons being that I wanted my own hospital room after the baby was born. Probably sounds shallow I know, but I just don't think I could handle sharing a room with up to 3 other women and their babies, as well as my own baby. I'm also a worrier, so I liked the idea of having my own OB throughout the pregnancy. Mind you, after each appt I have to wonder sometimes, since he really doesn't do that much. But for me, going private was peace of mind. Good luck with the scan next week.
Leabie - Thanks for your positive comments. I hope I turn out to be a good mum too.
Yogi Bear - Welcome. I completely understand your hesitation given your history, but I have everything crossed for you that this is the one for you. Good luck with everything.

It is so exciting to see that all the ladies who were just confirming their new pregnancies when I was still on this thread are now all having their babies or are due very soon!! Mitf, Lise Congrats! Londonmiss Wantbaby, Paula not long now!! Feels like yesterday I was having my DS but now he is almost 6 months and sitting up and rolling and being gorgeous! Though I am jealous of those newborn snuggles you will be getting ladies!!! Enjoy!!!

YogiBear, Totally understandable for you to be worried about this PG given your history. Hopefully discussing your worries and anxieties in here with other ladies will help to lessen your worries. Welcome!
Lisa B, I'm going private because we went through IVF and needed to be privately covered in order to try to recoup some of the IVF costs. Plus my fertility specialist also delivers and for peace of mind I really want him there. It's looking like I will have a c-section, too, as I am carrying twins so I definitely want to see his calming face there not some stranger. And as Wishes has said, I too don't want to share a room with other mums and their babies, especially if I will feel like crap after having a CS and being a first-time mum.
I want to raise what is probably a contentious issue, and that is weight gain during PG. I have been regularly weighing myself throughout this PG, once a week on the same day for ages now. I have put on 1 kilo over the last week! To put it into some perspective, though, what I weighed at week 6 compared to what I weigh now, week 16 (Yay!) is only 1 kilo in gain. Not too bad I think. But I will be worried if I keep putting on 1 kilo every week! Can others add their perspectives/experiences? I know it's hard to ask what is "normal" because we all have different experiences, but did anyone else put on 1 kilo in a week and maybe not so much in other weeks?
Poppyfairy - how lovely to hear from you, it's spooky I was thinking about you and Smithy this morning! I love "lactivist", very cool. He is such a little man - can't believe he's so grown up already!
Lisa B - wishes is right on the bed thing. I'd check with your local hosp, RWH does single rooming for most women and most you get in a room is two. But lots of older public hospitals have different rules. But Danni Minogue, for all her money ended up giving birth in the public system... so you can never tell. I'm surprised she's picked such a normal name (does that sound awful??) Got two texts yesterday from friends/ antenatal people who have given birth. And I wanted to ask an etiquette question: how have you responded/ what do you think is the best way to respond if someone gives their child a wierd name? Do you just ignore it, or do you lie? In general on BB, I don't tend to comment on names and you can't tell how well it works really unless you know the sirname and we don't all tend to use those. Or as in the one yesterday, where its not immediately obvious what gender the child is (poor texting from the DH if you ask me!!), would a general reply be ok and wait for them to tell you?

Brunette, for now my weight's going the other way (I've lost 10kg so far thanks to the m/s). I'll need to do what I can to keep it in check once I start eating again though because I'm very overweight to start with.
LondonMiss, I go for ignoring as my first option, with lying as the backup plan. But to be honest, generally I don't comment on names regardless of whether I like them or not. The only time I've had an unavoidable conversation about a name was with one of our friends who went to great lengths explaining how much effort they'd gone to to make sure their daughter's name was unique.
Lisa B, like you I'd spent all my time researching the TTC side. I know the IVF doctors in this city with good reputations, but not the OBs and had to make a choice on OB quickly with no time to research it. We're going private so that we'll get a private room and DH will be able to stay at the hospital with us if he wants to. The only appeal the public system had for me (aside from cost) was that they are less likely to intervene unless absolutely neccessary. Some OBs in private hospitals are very quick to jump to c-sections or inductions and I don't want those if I don't need them.
Mitf - congrats on the safe arrival of your baby boy.
Brunette, I started at 53kg (but it would fluctuate by a kilo or so every week), and now at nearly 17 weeks I am about 55.5kg so haven't put on much at all.
Can't do personals today, what a mad mad week it's been.

Brunnette - I would have 2 stable weeks and then a big growing week every three weeks. My weight has always been an issue as I'm very short and I went a bit mad at the beginning with the "permission" to eat. I've probably gone from 68kg at 20ish weeks to currently about mid eighties (probably creeping towards 90 based on the water in my ankles alone at the moment!!) I wouldnt' worry too much about your weight if you think you have basic nutrition going in? (in my case topped up with copious Cadburys, Magnums and with a cake chaser)
CK, You must be tiny, weighing only 53 ks! How are things going with your work, Chrissy? Have you finished training the people who are going to replace you? Gee that must be tough.
LondonMiss, Once again you had me in tears - your comment about the cake chaser; love it! Re correct etiquette with "unique" names, I agree with Leabie (I think it was) who said to say nothing. It makes it difficult if you can't guess the baby's gender due to the name the parents have given it, though :rofl:
Juniper, wow, I can't believe you have lost 10 kilos while PG! You must have very bad MS and not be eating at all? That's horrible. How did you go with the horror report?

Hey Brunette, so weight update this morning 57.5kg!!!!! Everything I read says 2nd trimester gain is about 500gm per week however ok to have a big week then a slow week like LondonMiss said. Tiny? well I've always been on the slim side and have a lot of trouble gaining weight so this is very unusual for me and the heaviest I have ever been - LOVING IT!!!! My sister put on 24kg with her third baby (only 16kg with her first) and was borderline gest diabetes so I'm hoping preg weight gain isn't genetic. My belly really popped this week and I definitely look pregnant - yay!
As for my staff, I said goodbye to all of them on Friday, a bit sad as I started the department in 2006 and it's been handed over to some ignorant people with blinders on. On a positive note, after 9.5yrs I was to be made redundant this Friday coming, however I've managed to push my redundancy out until end November by giving another department a helping hand through to then. So that means I can work through to about 3wks before due date, and then my redundancy will hit the bank account ready for baby to use it all up ;-) I was really stressing about having to find another job for just a few months but now I don't need to!
Juniper, which OBs did you go with? I think with private hosp jumping to inductions etc, you might be able to write it into your birth plan and get the OBs across it all beforehand so they only induce if medically necessary.

Thank you all so much for your warm welcomes and replies regarding my levels. i do feel a little better now, but of course will still worry a bit!! I have another bt on thurs in the lead up to the scan next week, i just want to know beforehand if anything doesn't look right because i've had bad news at scans in the past and it is such an awful experience. Anyway, keeping positive and praying for a healthy heartbeat.
i have another question please - the last few nights i've been waking up with mildish cramping, nothing too bad but lasts for about 10-15 mins at the same time i feel quite hot and a bit sick in the stomach too. I have had no signs of bleeding at all....is this normal for early pregnancy? i am hoping its just bub growing inside there but also worry that it means bad things too? Did anyone else have this?
Thanks again for your help everyone, told you i was a worrywart. i tell you what, we all worry & wait during the initial 2WW to find out if we are pg but then the bigger worries start. I just dont want to lose this one - it would just kill me :cry:

I'm still here.... DH keeps reminding me that I'm not technically late, but it feels like it! We went for a lovely posh lunch yesterday and I went in the ladies, and I swear to you, I had just walked through the door, and my belly set off the automatic taps!!! I had to do it about four times it was so funny. But then someone came in and I had to stop before I looked like a nutter.
Brunette, to be honest the m/s could be worse. I just find I really don't want to eat during the day because I feel sick and can only eat a small meal at night so I'm eating a lot less than I normally do. But since I started out so high (BMI over 35) it's not like I'm wasting away. What I do eat I generally keep down which is why I say it could be a lot worse. The horror report is due tomorrow, but we've had some set-backs so they'll be waiting a little longer (which unfortunately means its in my life a little longer).
Chrissy, we ended up going with Glenda McLaren. She was one of the OBs recommended by our FS and was also recommended by my acupuncturist.
Chrissy, that's great news about being relocated to another department and not having to worry about work. You made me laugh with your weight update. That's how I was when I saw the 1 kilo weight gain in one week! Hee hee
Juniper, does your OB deliver anywhere, or only at one hospital - like mine does?
LM, what a classic about your tummy setting off the taps! Very funny. How are you feeling now? Are you over it all and just want to meet bub?
YB, I remember getting cramps in the early days, but it wasn't in the tummy it was in the legs. I would just move a leg and get this horrible, horrible cramp. I also got headaches early on, and they've returned with a vengeance over the last three weeks or so. But everyone is different and every PG is different. GL with your BT and upcoming scan.
Brunette, I believe she only delivers at the Mater, but that's where we want to go.
