Oh Paula, that's so beautiful, the last weekend you and DH being alone before having your baby girl in your arms. Makes me feel a tad teary! Can I just say, enjoy the quiet this weekend with your hubby before the little one arrives, as no doubt it will be like a whirlwind coming into the house once Tiana arrives! I'm over the halfway mark and while I can't wait to see my babies and hold them, I am already savouring my alone time, and time when it's just DH and me. I keep saying to friends and family that it's the quiet before the storm - twinpower!

Hi everyone! Well I'm a newbie to this thread with my pregnancy just confirmed this week. Very scared as my first and I'm no spring chicken... I just can't wait to make the 12 weeks! I only had the one embryo transfer, so I'm sure no twins for me, kicking myself for not asking for two. Oh well, as long as "he" or "she" is a fit and healthy bub! How lovely for you Brunette, double trouble indeed.

Sweetie- we only had one transferred and were told we still had a 25% chance of twins. ;-) he he we were a three day transfer though, I think 5 is different

Hi and welcome, Sue. How funny, I was just having a look over the TWW thread and the LT and assisted TTC thread (old habits die hard) and saw your BFP post and that your HcG level was in the low 2000s. I wouldn't be so sure that you aren't carrying twins; that's pretty high. My Hcg was low 3000s at 4 weeks and 3 days. Do you want twins? Totally understandable being scared, being a first-time mum. I'm 37 too and a first-timer. I felt so naive when I went into a baby store for the first time and had no idea what all the products were. I came away with a massive headache. But no doubt we'll pick it up and learn quickly once our bubs get here

Yes glenny_c, mine was 5 day transfer and nothing was mentioned about possibility of twins?? Brunette I would love twins, we do want to go for a second after this one, so may use two of the frosties later on! I've been told my estimated due date is 13 April 2011, clinic said I would be about four and half weeks, though just did an online due date calculator and it says 5 weeks, 2 days. Not to sure about that one... The results of my second blood test were hcg levels of 6300 and prosg. at 99. I do have this aching pain in my right hip, I'm hoping it just my body changing to accommodate the little one!?! My first scan booked in for 26 August, so will just go with the flow till then.

Sue, congratulations! That's wonderful news! And sounds like you've got nice strong betas there too! I can't remember at what point an embryo splits to make identical twins, but if it's after 5 days then there's still a chance that you could get them with a SET. How did you calculate your due date online? Did you use LMP or O date? If you did a medicated FET then for a 5 day transfer you just count back to 5 days before the transfer and use that as the O date. That should give you the most accurate due date. You should get a dating measurement at the first scan, so you could always just wait to see how that comes out.

Thank you Juniper and same to you, your nearly half-way! I actually worked out due date with this website: IVF.ca - IVF Due Date and Fetal Development Calculator I also got a letter from the fertility clinic with the estimated date. I'm pretty sure just having the one, which is great as so much to plan for. I told my mum, she so excited and has already gone out buying baby stuff like burp towels, umm yes so many things to think about. Especially the change of lifestyle, though looking forward to it! No morning sickness yet...

Sue, Interesting, that site gives me a due date 1 day earlier than what I predicted based on the O (ie EPU) date. I'd say your best option is to keep in mind that you have that range of dates to work with and just wait for your first scan. Our bub was measuring spot on for what I calculated at our first scan. My clinic never gave me a due date other than verbally at that first scan. FX the m/s is kind to you and you don't get any. If you're going to get it, it's normal for it to kick in around 6wks, but it varies from woman to woman. Mine started before 4wks.

Afm, I'm annoying DH a lot by making him feel where my belly is firm. Lol, I just find it fascinating that my flabby belly has a firm section in the middle now. The indent that usually runs around my waist where the top of my pants sit is suddenly starting to disappear and I just find it amazing. Also, today at acupuncture, I got pin and needles in my right hand and foot, so I'm wondering if that means I'm getting close to the point where I can't lie on my back?

Juniper & Jaki - Ladies you are lucky your DH cleans those places in the house!!! My DH would not know where or with what to clean our bathrooms. He would prob just wipe it down with a cloth and think he had done a good job

Maggiepie- like juniper said it has to do with unpasturised milk which really applies more in the states where they don't have to but here companies have to use pasturised milk. Philly cheese is fine to have according to my doc so i have had it on occasions. Hope that helps.

Ninah - hope everything went well with your induction and you and your bundle of joy are doing well.

I think i remember reading about someone having headaches (sorry can't remember who) i have had the worst headaches during the pregnancy which i don't usually get. My doc has told me that panadine is perfectly safe to take while pregnant cause it is paracetomol based, so if they get really bad there is an option. Panadol did nothing for my headaches they were like eating lollies.

Hello and bellyrubs to everyone else, hope you are all well.

AFM - DH is starting to count down God love him. The weeks do seem to be going much quicker now. I finally felt the baby kick the other night, what a weird feeling. My placenta is at the front which is why it has taken so long, and will prob be a bit longer before it is a really strong kick. I don't mind though so long as i can feel it. Have started to buy more things now also, which is fun. Restricting cause we aren't finding out the sex so everything is white!

Also to all the new ladies not on the list let me know your due date when you feel comfortable enough to have it up on the list. I know some people like to wait a bit before they feel 'safe' enough to put it up. Just let me know and i will update the list

My doc has told me that panadine is perfectly safe to take while pregnant cause it is paracetomol based, so if they get really bad there is an option.

I had a long chat with my GP about this a couple of weeks ago since I only had panadeine at home and not plain panadol. When he looked it up in the book, it is Category A (ie safe for pg), but there was a little star next to it. The problem is that codeine, being an opiate, can depress respiration and other systems. In early pg that's probably not a big deal, but later on it could be inadvisable. His conclusion was that it was okay to take sparingly, but that plain paracetamol was a better option. I'm not saying not to take it, especially if your doctor has said it's okay, I'm just suggesting you might want to keep their use to a minimum.

Jaki and Juniper, I'm with Renee: count your blessings your hubbies are cleaning the house, esp the toilet! Just replace the bleach etc with something more friendly We have three toilets in our house, and even though I usually use only one, I am always cleaning them, replacing toilet rolls and the overflowing bins! Aaaaagh!

Airline, with the HcG level you had, is it possible you're having twins? (Can you tell I'm hoping other ladies are also having twins )

Renee, how beautiful you finally felt your baby kick. It's a great sensation, isn't it? Sometimes it feels a bit weird when Twin 1 keeps constantly kicking, then Twin 2 chimes and kicks back! Nice that your hubby is doing the countdown now, instead of counting up the weeks. I just had a look at the list and freaked out a little because I'm only about 7th or 8th from the top!!! I'm not ready yet; enjoying how quiet the babies are in utero hee, hee.

Wantbaby, lovely to hear from you. Don't beat yourself up about stopping BF and using formula; you did your best and that's what makes you a good parent. Hugs and kisses to Ellie.

Maggie, I too had really weird dreams in my first trimester. They've stopped since hitting the second trimester. Thanks for the tip on feeding, changing and sleeping newborns being all they really need. I think I had worked myself into a tizz from reading this book and its regimented methods of what to do virtually every minute of the day! It's funny how you say you really wanted twins; I am suffering singleton envy thinking how lovely it would be to get the sporty three-wheel prams to go jogging in, how nice it would be to just feed one baby, change one baby, wash one baby etc etc. Of course, in saying that I wouldn't have it any other way because I already love them both so much. I'm just thinking of all the extra work involved in two!

Re the discussion on soft cheeses, I would just like to add how everything these days seems to have soft cheese in it, or smoked salmon, or cold cuts of meat! At my best friend's wedding a week ago entree was a choice of smoked salmon and salad, or ricotta parcels in a tomato sauce. I was not happy, Jan. Had to settle for a bread roll with butter. I am over it and looking forward to the days where I can eat everything again


AFM, I have sore feet, slight swelling too I suspect from sock marks I'm getting, a sore back, a sore coccyx, sore shoulders from lying predominantly on my sides .... Aaaagh! I'm seeing my OB this afternoon and have a list of questions to ask, inc how I can reduce swelling/soreness in my feet. A recent BT showed a higher than normal cholesterol level, too. Has anyone else been tested for this recently and had a similar result?

Brunette hope the swelling eases up but as long as your B/P is fine, Drs generally just tell you to keep your feet up as much as possible.

Well ladies, i am still here!!! Not feeling any different. Have lost my mucus plug but apparently that can happen up to 2 weeks before labour so doesnt really help me. Have my OB appointment in about an hour so will see what he has to say!

Juniper, OMG I can't believe it's been 17 and a half years since you've been to the dentist. I'm my dentist's best friend (due to number of root canals and crowns) but she's just lovely. The best. If you want a good dentist, let me know and I'll PM you her details. GL for your appt tomorrow!

Airline, that's fantastic that you saw your baby's heartbeat. It is very emotional, isn't it? That's a really high stat that your OB gave you about 98% chance of a viable PG once you see a heartbeat. I wish my FS had told me the same thing at 5 weeks when we had bleeding and a pretty big blood clot (threatened miscarriage) because it would have been extremely reassuring. We had heaps of scans from 5 weeks to about 8 weeks and the heartbeats were seen each and every time! I was put on bed rest until 12 weeks and given virtually no reassurance as to what would happen. Aaaagh, doctors! Bet you can't wait to tell your parents the news this Thursday. Interesting, too, what your OB said about fatigue (as opposed to MS) being an indicator of a healthy PG.

Re the gestation versus EDD, I thought the gestation date indicated on US machines was effected by the size/measurement of the baby. In other words, it can be an earlier date than your EDD if the baby is going well in the growth stakes, and it can be a later date than your EDD if the baby is a little slower in the growth department. Is my understanding right in this? I'm confused now.

Re. dentists, I used to be really bad at going, but now go every 6 months and sadly have a lot of fillings at back of mouth. I had pain for a while and had the first part of root canal done :-0 the same week as my transfer!! I had to tell the dentist about the IVF so he could pack the tooth to hopefully last the whole pregnancy, cos he didn't want me to have x rays whilst pregnant. I said to him, bet you didn't think you'd be talking about IVF at your work today!!

Lairdoz & juniper, he used the phrase due date so i'm guessing due date not gestational.

The other thing that was comforting about this FS/OB was his easy manner and relaxed attitude. He said eat and drink whatever you want, the baby will take what it needs from you at this stage, so due to nausea eat what you fancy. I immediately thought of pizza! Pleased with myself tonight though, had baked salmon - well only ate half and a roll with cheese and vegemite. Had a night off vegies.

Sorry Brunette....there was def. only one little heartbeat in there, but I'm sure someone will join us soon who will have two squirming away inside!

Ok, so 7wks and 6days eh?! That decision's been made, and very happy we are! Thank you Lairdoz for advice on that.xx
