I hate it when I press the wrong buttons and accidentally close the tab I was typing in...
Passed the GTT!! But BP is up. :( I'm hoping it's just stress-related (due to the crazy busy work situation), but I guess time will tell. The OB didn't say anything about it. Adding to my stress, I just had a call to let me know that Dad has been admitted to Bundaberg hospital, possibly with a collapsed lung (which he's had before - a legacy of being a smoker as a young man). I have to wait for this afternoon to find out more.
On the folic acid thing, I did some reading which suggested we should not go above 1mg unless under Dr's orders. Women with a history of babies with neural tube defects may be put on as much as 5mg, but the normal recommendation is 500ug (from memory). I think Elevit has 800ug and I was taking about 900ug during the first tri (which is when it's most important). I now don't take any extra folic acid - just what's in the Blackmore's gold. On the subject of folic acid, I think green tea may inhibit the absorption of folic acid, so avoid that (or ask your OB if it's true - I've never confirmed it with a reliable source, but my acupuncturist told me not to have green tea, she just didn't say why).
Okay, have to get back to work. :( Hopefully the craziness will be finished early next week (report is due Monday). I might even ask for a couple of days off to de-stress? We'll see. Only 30 work days left...

Hi lovelies!
Grub - you crack me up! yes, who does read the warnings on vitamin bottles?! You are also my hero with your 7 hour birth, my first lines of defence are breathing, movement, TENS and then gas. So pleased to read that you got through it with just those. My friends are all "just you wait"-ers, and although I know I need to be flexible in my ideas, they're convinced I'll be screaming for an epidural within 5 minutes of labour. Maybe I will, who knows?! Just annoys me that they poo-poo all my other ideas.
Renee - great to see you back in here! Hope its smooth sailing from now on for you, and you can relax and enjoy these last few weeks of pg.
abj and babytruj - a huge CONGRATS  and welcome to the thread! So wonderful to see new faces in here. Girls, I think every single one of us in here can relate to feeling anxious / shellshocked / nervous when we got our BFP, LTTTC is a hard road. I remember reading in this thread PUPO - pregnant until proven otherwise, and I found it really helped me when I was feeling panicky. Just try and take one day at a time, and remember to breathe! abj - I too am taking Blackmores, I think its a great all-rounder.
MaggiePie - big hugs  you poor chook. I had that same thing for a month, ended up taking antibiotics, and as much as I hated having to take them, they worked wonders. Hope you're feeling much much better v soon. GL with the move (just point and direct!), and don't even think about working on the weekend, girl! Be kind to yourself.
Juniper - hope the OB appt went well and you passed your GTT?! FX for you. Hope work calms down soon.
KellyD - you are so super-organised! OMG, I feel so ashamed at my lack of organisation! It doesn't sound like having twins will phase you at all ;)
Glenny_c - I know, I'm right behind you at 6th on the list! Scary. Its the final countdown...
Have a great weekend everyone!
-
Juniper - just missed your post! YAY  for passing GTT. So sorry to hear about your dad, that won't be helping your BP, nor will your work situation. Hope everything gets sorted out with both, very soon. Your BP might've been elevated if you were worried about your GTT results too? I think having a couple of days off sounds like a lovely idea, you be kind to yourself.
-
Juniper - I hope your dad is ok. Yay for passing test, bummer about BP but like you said it could just be a bit of stress. I'm sure doc would have said something if it was of concern. I think some days off sounds just what you need.
-
Thanks ladies. Got a message from my sister and apparently he's got blood clots. I'm yet to talk to mum or dad directly for details, but it sounds like maybe he was lucky to avoid being in much worse shape. Not sure how long they'll be stuck up there until he can drive home.
Meanwhile, I swear my beautiful breech baby is both punching and kicking me at the same time. (OB said not to worry about the breech position unless she's still there at 36wks)

Hey everyone.
You all sounds like you are far away from morning sickness, but is it a bit like being hungry, but not quite wanting to eat (also knowing you have eaten) feling naseous at the thought of food??
-
Babytruj - My M/S never really went away and is coming back strong again. Mine is kind of like that. You feel hungry but sick at the same time and certain foods def make you not feel like eating. The only thing i can suggest is to try all of the suggestions people give you for what has worked for them and maybe one will work for you. Dry stuff helped a bit for me, only because i knew i had to keep eating something. Hopefully you don't get it too bad if at all, it is a pain in the butt!!!!
-
babytruj - i have to ask you, did you mean to put the J at after the U or was it to be an E and you hit the wrong key? I just wonder about usernames and am thinking it was either deliberate, as in your name is Jane, or a whoopsy! lol. don't feel you need to answer. ... back on task - you just described my MS except all i want is icey fruit juices and fruit! and all the stuff that is $$$ atm too! watermelon, rockmelon, mangoes, grapes yummmumumum
juniper - great news about the gtt but crappy news about your dad! hugs coming your way! are you far away from him ie can you get up to see hiim for yourself. hope that bp comes down as dad gets better and work less crazy. ox
oh Leabie i am hearing you ggguuurrrllll-fffrreeeennnnn. I got poo-pooed when i said i won't be using anything but gas and a tens. But i must admit at 9.5 cms i said "give me an epidural'' lol, of course it was too late for htat! the shower was also good for pain releif and believe or not sitting on the loo. I used stress balls and focussed on hitting them on the wall and counting at first. Then used the tens, and then the gas (which we stared off very very low) with a fit ball which i rocked back and forth on.
then ditched the tens and used gas and shower and then it was show time! But i very much went with the mindset taht the gas was it and i had to try to get through it cos once the gas was dialled up that's all i had... at 9 cm you had to stand on my face to get the inhaler off me lol.
but my secret weapon was DH who looked me right in the eyes and kept me focussed with little chants/mantras "baby's going down''; deep breathes; etc I just would not have been able to do it without his calm and coaching. I made him read Juju Sundin's book that i mentioned earlier so we were on the same page. I know this time round I want quiet in the room for the pushing. Last time a midwife kept yelling at me to get angry and push push push and i kept saying "i'm not angry'' lol. I found it really distracting but i know heaps of people find it motivating.
oh dear rant! see this is why i hang around murph, we outrant one another lol.
off to dh's work chrissy party today at a bowls club! bub should have fun!
have a good weekend girls

girls......when I am having a quieter time in life, and check multiple times to see how everyone's going....it's all quiet on the western front! but now my life's exploding and DH and I are total stressheads everyone's joining and chatting and I'm missing out!!! my old mate who was in hospital now needs to go into aged care facility so DH and i have been organising that (paperwork paperwork paperwork) around work schedules etc. father in law arriving from overseas on Tuesday too................aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhh........... ..
but WELCOME TO THE NEWBIES!! CONGRATULATIONS, MAY THE NAUSEA BE SHORT LIVED AND THE BUMP BLOSSOM!
everyone else, belly rubs, take care and at some point I'll get back to normal. xx

Was just told Dad does NOT have bloot clots - he has pneumonia! I'm so relieved! Who would have thought that pneumonia would be good news? Anyway, they expect him to be released from hospital tomorrow.
grub, I'm reading that book at the moment. A friend loaned it to me but my OB also has it on her recommended list. How did your DH feel about reading it? Was he reluctant at first? I haven't told DH yet that I want him to read it. Re visiting Dad, Bundaberg is about 4-5 hours drive from Brisbane. Under other circumstances (if his prognosis were worse or if I didn't have so much work to do) we would probably have gone up.
babytruj, I had all day nausea and a major aversion to all food throughout the 1st tri. I found it very difficult to eat anything during the day and had to force myself to eat dinner at night. I ended up losing 10kg due to the m/s, but since I started out with a very high weight that wasn't a problem. In spite of that, I found it quite manageable and I consider myself fairly lucky since I didn't have much vomitting (ie whatever I managed to eat, I usually kept down).
-
just popping in to see how you are all going and by the looks of thing you are all great and not long to go for a few of you.take care and i look foward to seeing some b/a.
ps:renee the list looks awsom hun ..good job and thanks for keeping it up mwah.
-
juniper - that is good news about the blood clots. hope he feels better soon. i just asked DH to read it and he said he would. Mind you he took his time but got it done. he says he didn't like reading it but just had to lol. I did suggest it become his toilet non-fiction lol and that seemed to work. i do remember giving him a lecture about me doing all the hard work and 9 months of uncomfortable preg and not to mention all the ivf stuff and all he has to do is reading a flipping book, "so do it'' so if he drags his feet, guilt trip him hahaha
hi smithy!
hi airline - that's no good about your friend. sounds like you are a good friend to have!

Hi Luscious Pregnant Ones, is the Juju Sundin book called 'Birth Skills'? (sorry if I missed the original post a few pages back). Can any of you give me a brief synopsis of it? I've moved on from most of the pregnancy books and am now reading up on baby's first 3mths etc as at our antenatal classes the midwives said to not focus so much on that ONE day (being the birth), as in the grand scheme of things it is such a small part.......... but I dunno...... a small PAINFUL part and I do want to be prepared as much as possible and in control. And frankly DH and I are going through a 'patch' so I don't expect much support or understanding from him (1 x back rub this whole pregnancy and I think that was when I was about 5mths pregnant). So if this book can give me the skills to tackle this birth thing without relying on DH to 'centre' me, then I should probably read it.
Yeah?
Chrissy

ck - yep it's called birth skills and focusses on expelling the energy/pain through visulation, movement, voice etc. It promotes calm, drug-free birth but certainly allows for all types of pain thresholds and situations. But I must say, having a good birthing partner is absolutely key and while all the stuff is good, i needed DH to keep me on track sometimes as it's easy to lose control and focus when the ouchies start really ouching! So i hope you and DH get over your patch real soon! Plus he doesn't have much of a choice now does he lol
and that's great advice from the midwife. I was super prepared for my birth and am stoked that it went exactly how i wanted BUT as for breastfeeding, bathing, changing, no sleep etc i was completely unprepared. In saying that I don't think you can ever truly prepare for the massive upheaval and change you are about to go through either and it's stuff you really need to learn on the job. But i do wish i'd read more particularly about breastfeeding and feeding schedules and sleep schedules and options.

Who's got what on this week?

ps oh the voms have arrived here! lost my dinner last night - cleaning a dirty nappy was the culprit tho ugh.
-
oh no Grub! I thought you were supposed to be immune to the smell of a dirty nappy if it was your own child.... Am guessing morning sickness pulls rank then?
-
Sorry Grub, but the chuckles have hit again... I told you not to wish m/s on yourself and I also added about the dirty nappy... lol
ck77: I agree with Grub you can only prepare so much for after baby arrives, having heaps of info to hand is great but these babies are just so hard to understand but you also have to consider that you now have a new person in your life and you have also undertaken a huge lifestyle change. All I can recommend is to "go with the flow" to start off with until you get to understand your little person and then start to get your routines established. I took us about 8 weeks with DD but by then she was sleeping through the night and having regular feeding & sleeping patterns. Before then she pretty much rules the roost....
AFM: Well we are now past that magical 12 weeks mark and we have our NT scan on Thursday... So looking forward to seeing the babies again.. It seems like ages since we last saw them..
-
grub - oh bummer to the voms appearing, although sometimes the smell of a dirty nappy will make me want to anyway!!!
CK77 - Hope everything is ok with you and DH  I agree with grub you will need him during the birth. Do you have a back up support person you can call just in case or will DH be fine once he knows bub is on the way?
Juniper - glad your dad isn't as bad as first thought. Hope he is doing better.
KellyD - Congrats for passing 12 wks and GL for thursday, I can't wait to see and meet our little one.
Hi to all other lovely ladies :bellyrubs:
I had to buy a blow up pool on sat cause it is so hot here atm. $30 from big w and i sat in it all weekend!!! This way i can look like a whale but in my own backyard!!
-
Juniper – what is GTT? Sorry to hear about your dad, but glad he is doing better!
Grub17 – It wasn’t an accident, it’s a nickname I’ve had for years
Thanks everyone else for the welcomes!!
Well, I’m in Singapore, and as hot as it is, it’s miserable outside – been cloudy and raining all weekend.
I have a scan next Monday (22nd) – so just have to hold on till then. I‘m just so nervous!! Our first blood test showed HCG was 234.8 (mIU/ml) and progesterone was 821.83 (nmol/L). Progesterone was apparently quite high, so they reduced my progesterone tablets. I had another BT on Sat, and HCG levels were up and Progesterone was down quite a bit, but apparently all is ok (I don’t have Sat results as the nurse sent the SMS to my DH) I had a small amount of blood – pinky – yesterday, but it hasn’t come back at all. I think it is also as I am inserting Progesterone (Utrogeston tablets) and I may be tearing slightly when I do this!! At least that is what I am hoping. No more blood at all since then!!
