Pregnancy after LT TTC #14

True Jaki, may have to try that next time...I am in a lot of pain at times. Can't beat shopping eh!? You were up nice and early....I kept turning over and going back to sleep. aaahhhh lovely ;-)

Hospital is Nth West Private (classes were $200, 3 x 3hrs). Hubby was B-O-R-E-D as the info I'd been researching had been discussed with him anyway. I think next Saturday will be the eye opener.

Yep, gotta love the recent baby sales, Best N Less, Target - love it! and layby is my new friend :-)

Hey CK that's where I'm going too. I'm sure there's someone else on here as well....Juniper maybe? Who's your OB? I have Dr D'arcy-Evans, only had one appt. but happy with him.

So question time again... after almost 9 weeks now of nausea I am starting to wonder if indeed it'll ever end or if I am 'one of those women' who suffers throughout pregnancy. Anyhoo, I have probably eaten green vegies like broccoli and beans about 3 times in that 9 weeks. I take my Blackmores pregnancy gold capsules, I have eaten a lot of chicken and (if I cook them) prawns, and in the last week managed 2 x mince dishes and 1 x lamb strips dish. I eat fruit every day, but do admit that take away seems to go down waaayyy easier than a lot of stuff at home, but I've been curbing that. I just assumed that I'd feel better and then go back to eating my normal diet, including vegies with most meals..... is this going to be a problem? What if I can't manage many vegies for the entire pregnancy? I still love corn on cob, can handle carrots (better raw than cooked) but it's a nig NO to greens.

Also....I am off to dentist tomorrow. Is it safe to have local anaesthetic? I'm sure he'll know, he knew not to x ray me last time, but just asking. xx

Hi Lovelies :) Been keeping a low profile keeping this cold, it feels like a pregnancy counting down the number of weeks I have had this one ;)
Airline, my friend who is a doctor just reminded me last week that babies will steal all the nutrients they need and leave the Mum with deficiencies, not the other way around. In other words, don't worry about your diet if you are taking your multi-vits (I take the same ones) and eating the good stuff you can. You can have local at the dentist, it's not a problem. You are right that Xrays are the other things they avoid, but they can give you them if they have to (which you won't need of course) by shielding your tummy.

You are doing such a great job getting through all this sickness, so just remember your body is very well designed to give your growing baby all it needs, even if you can't eat your greens :)

CK77 - Those lessons sound very familiar. We did ours all in one day and it was a looooong one - but they had the baby dolls there which made it easier ;) It's worth mentioning that the catheter after a vaginal birth comes out after a couple of hours at most hospitals, I think if you have a C section it's much longer, but for me it was out before I even realised it was even there.

Re: Shopping trips - As one still new-ish Mum, can I say from experience and chatting with other Mum's that the best cheap baby clothes are from Target. I bought a bit from Big W and KMart and both of their stuff wash quite badly (out of shape and fading was very common). Other brands may be more expensive, but you get more wear out of them and pass them onto to future kidlets or sell them on ebay if that's what you like to do. Just my thoughts for what it's worth :)

AFM - Had my scan on Friday, my new little junior kept waving at us which was so nice. My DH texted the sex within seconds of finding out and got told off by both me and the scan lady as she hadn't checked anything out yet to make sure everything was OK (which it was)

airline, sorry to hear the nausea is lingering for you. Although I was lucky enough to have it end around 13wks (after starting before 4wks), I've heard up to 16wks is common. Then there's some who have it longer of course... Even if it does go past 16wks, that doesn't mean you'll have it the whole time, as it can still stop after that time. I still get nausea whenever I'm tired or hungry. In fact today I had a really bad wave of it for half an hour for no reason that I could discern. I even tried to call DH to ask him to take me home from work (about 11am). Just eat what you can. Try to be good if you want to, but don't be hard on yourself if you can only handle "less good" things.

Lairdoz, that's good to know. We've always bought gifts for friends from Target and expected to shop there a lot for ourselves. I think Best & Less are also good for the Baby Bonds? Glad to hear the scan went well! Are you sharing the gender?

Ok, so today we had 3 new people start at work, after another 3 last week. That may not sound like a lot to some, but it takes our office to 23 people, so it's a huge influx... Anyway, one of today's newstarts has the first name that we've picked for our little girl. This is in addition to another co-worker giving his daughter born in May the exact 1st and 2nd name combo we've had picked for years... :rolleyes: So there's now two people at work who'll be paying attention to the name we've chosen. But on the good news front, DH has agreed to having two middle names (this makes her name different to my co-worker's daughter). He has also given her the nickname of his little M&M, which I think is adorable!

As for the stealing nutrients- that is DEF true!! Eating dinner last night and a chunk of my tooth came off!!! Seeing the dentist today, the girl on the phone says it is pretty common to lose part or the whole of a tooth during pregnancy! I'm pretty cheesed though cause I have been making sure I eat calcium as well as taking supplements!!! Ah- just one more of the joys people didn't warn me about!! he he

CK, I've done the antenatal classes and it's funny how different it is with different presenters, which I imagine you had, because ours never passed around the epidural needle or catheter for a c/s. I would have been very interested to see them as I'll more than likelly be having a c/s. I didn't get too much out of ours either, although in one class she talked about what to do if bub had a temperature and this was good, common sense information. No need to bring a doll if you don't have one, as there are plenty of spares. Re PG weight, I lost 100 grams last week! Go figure. So at 28 weeks I have put on 9.6 kilos, which I am pretty happy with. Plus both bubs are in the normal growth range, albeit in the lower end, so that's goood. I figure by the end of this PG I'll also put on 15 kilos but, hey, who knows? Sonds like you are doing great, too, with your weight gain.

Glenny, wow, I've had plenty of bleeding from my gums when I floss and brush my teeth but I'll consider myself lucky now not to have lost a tooth or part of one. FX your dentist fixes you up today. Hope you get heaps out of your antenatal classes starting tonight.

Lairdoz, thanks for the tip about Target baby clothes lasting the distance. I bought a few things from the recent Target sale but resisted buying more baby clothes as we have bought quite a few onesies and singlets in different sizes already and it's hard to know how big/small these babies are going to be. We bought two bouncers for a bargain price of only $35, two lightweight cotton beanies for hospital in case they're in special care or just cold from the air-conditioning. Good to hear your scan went well. You haven't posted the gender of bub so I presume you're keeping it a secret? Are you chuffed? (I'm being a snoop; just ignore me!)

Juniper, aw how cute your DH calling bub his M&M! I think that's a great idea giving your baby two middle names to differentiate between a new co-worker and co-worker's child. Have you had anymore luck in selecting a pram? BTW, you seem pretty computer savvy. Do you know how I can upload a photo in this forum? In another forum someone has uploaded a picture as part of her ticker but in my permissions it doesn't allow me to do this. Do you know of any other way to do it?

Airline, as others have said, baby will take all the nutrients s/he needs from you and you will be left wanting, so no need to worry about that. It's safe to have an x-ray and a local. Having said that, I got a root canal done with x-rays before being PG; I planned it so I only needed a crown with a local whilst being PG and was told by my dentist a local is perfectly fine and doesn't get to the baby. As for MS, I don't think anyone can tell you how long it will hang around for. Some lucky ones (thank you god!) like me never had any, while for others it lasts only the first trimester and for other it lasts the entire PG. FX yours buggers off soon.

Jaki, it's nice when you get some comfy maternity clothes to wear instead of trying to fit into work clothes.

AFM, the nursery is pretty much completed and we're really happy with it. We forgot to put on the sound & movement monitors before making up the cots! D'oh! But we'll leave it like it is until we have the baby shower (about 4 weeks away) and then wash the sheets and blankets and put on the monitors. I keep sneaking into the room and sitting on the single bed which we'll use as a feeding lounge and just looking and imagining two babies in there soon! OMG I can't believe it. It still doesn't seem real even with the nursery being complete. And our Baby Jogger City Select in Ruby Red is in the garage. I've taken it for a spin up and down the hallway and can't wait to get out on the streets with the twins :) Saw the OB yesterday and he's really happy with my progress. Other than this damn carpal tunnel (which he said I could have operated on during PG if I wanted) and the swelling in my cankles, my GD test was good, sugar good, iron levels great for twins, blood pressure 120/72 and both babies heartbeats detected by doppler. Plan is 37 weeks c/s if I have placenta previa (should know for sure by week 34) or if not, then planned c/s at 38 weeks.

Brunette, I believe the lilypie tickers allow you to upload in image to include in the ticker. To the best of my knowledge you can't upload any pictures direct to BB. You can put links to pictures in though. Yay for the nursery being set up! I'd love to see pictures! We had another look at prams yesterday and are leaning toward the strider plus. DH is pretty set on the pram being reversible (either handle or seat) and when you add in the plan to walk around the park regularly (ie eliminate the prams with indoor only wheels) that limits the options. The place we looked had three options that fit those criteria - 1 we didn't like, the 2nd one didn't fit in our boot, which left the strider plus. I'm a bit nervous about it being wider, but I think we'll just have to risk it as it seems like the best option in every other way... So I think we're going to order one from Bubs before their sale ends.

Brunette I can't believe when I see your ticker that you are almost 29 weeks. That is fabulous! Of course I am hoping the carpal tunnel symptoms can be managed without an op, but maybe it's just nice to know there might be some relief during pregnancy, even if you don't use this option.
So exciting to have the nursery all set-up, do you go and look at the stroller and imagine your twins in there? :)
My poor junior #2 hasn't got anything yet and I haven't thought much about it. I had bought everything for DD by this stage of pregnancy last time (although it didn't arrive until 33 weeks!) but I think because I know I have everything I need I am putting off until the last minute.

Glenny - sorry to hear about your poor tooth! Hope it can get fixed without too much trouble.

Juniper - my DD has two middle names, purely because her initials sounded a bit stupid just with one middle name. It's a pain for things like medicare as they only allow one middle name on everything, but I love her name and I know how much you love your little DD's name too :)

AFM - Been feeling bubs a lot more now - we are keeping the sex a secret but suffice to say we are both very happy. I cried when I found out, but I think I would have regardless of the sex, it was more that it was real that junior was coming and that I would realise my dream of 5 years to have two children, hopefully both healthy. I rang my boss to let her know yesterday I would be putting in for another round of maternity leave before I returned from my current one! I just wanted to wait until I had the scan just incase which I know is silly, but I am sure you ladies understand better than anyone why I am cautious of celebrating too early.xxx

just a quick one with no persies...but boy have you guys been busy! ... did anyone read 2 things in news today. Firstly a Brisbane based lesbian couple are having quins!!! with only AI, and I thought it was fantastic that the pioneer of IVF got a Nobel prize!! If he hadn't had this brainstorm in the 1950s and followed it through, where would so many of us be today!?? Some of us wouldn't even exist!! Wow. Sorry gotta go eat now, and watch Desperate H/Wives Yeh.xx

Lairdoz, I agree, amazing that I'm almost 29 weeks. Can't believe it really. Yes, I regularly look at the pram and the nursery and imagine having two babies in both. The nursery looks so peaceful ATM that I want to sleep in there :) Totally understandable not telling your boss till the 12-week scan. Really glad you're excited about the sex of bub! That's great. You probably don't have that much you need to buy for No. 2 that you don't already have? Won't take you long to get organised, I'm sure.

Airline, A Current Affair had a clip about this couple having quintuplets. The chances were like a million to one or something. I have to say I am glad it's them and not me. Two is quite enough for me :) I agree; where would we all be without AI/IVF? No doubt without our little bubs-to-be.

AFM, had a little scare last night. Lost about a tablespoon of liquid in one gush. Saw my OB this morning and it's not amnio fluid. Both heartbeats were seen and plenty of fluid around both bubs. Cervix is closed. He took a swab and (sorry if TMI; stop reading if you're squeamish) there was a fair bit of yellowish discharge. Don't think it's thrush because I don't have the accompanying itch. He mentioned that 15 out of 100 women have strep B in their vaginas and there's no point giving me antibiotics because it's resistant and I'd need to be on them until bubs are born. He said no risk to bubs if cervix is closed and waters are not broken, but once waters break or cervix opens if I have strep B it can make the babies sick. So he'll give me antibiotics before they're born so they aren't affected. But he won't tell me the results of the swab, if I have it or I don't, because he said I'll just worry needlessly and there's nothing I can do. Strep B and premmie labour are associated, but he said having twins ususally results in premmie labour anyway. Anyone else heard of this or had strep B before?

Have been MIA for a little while, not much to contribute, but been keeping an eye on you all and reading the posts.

Brunette - I think my SIL had the strep B? It was no drama at all, she just got the antibiotics while she was in labour, from memory? Will ask her and get the details. I think if you have a CS the babies are less likely to come in contact with it anyway? Don't stress about it, its pretty common. 29 weeks, eh?! How time flies! :D So pleased that everything is going well.

Juniper - I loved the look of the Strider Plus too, but got a bit nervous about the width. We ended up going for its poorer cousin the Cruiser (also a travel system), only available at Target. The wheels are solid though, so don't think would meet your criteria.

Hope everyone else is well and happy! Sorry not many persies, will try to do more when we get back from holidays, we're off on our babymoon on Saturday for a week. Hervey Bay, here we come! Can't wait :clap:

Brunette, the lilypie ones don't take long to set up in my experience (although I've not tried one with a picture, so not sure if that can be problematic?). Or was it that you took a long time choosing the design? I'd be happy to talk you through it if you wanted any help. I've heard of the strep B issue before, but I basically just know that it is an issue and nothing else - sorry. I hope that's not what it is. But if it is, then at least your Dr will know and take steps to keep them safe. I'm guessing the biggest difference to your care is the antibiotics at the end and if your waters break before you go into labour that you'll have to be induced?

Leabie, have fun! I'm so jealous! I don't think we're going to manage a babymoon and I really would have liked one...

Afm, DH picked up the nursery theme stuff we ordered today! I was so excited to get everything home, but we don't have anywhere to put it yet, so I've had to resist the temptation to open it all. I can't wait until we get the floors and cupboard done and can start putting stuff in there.

We've got to measure up the cot our friends have offered us to start working out what we can fit in the room. It's a bit of a PITA in some ways because there's two doors into the room, on separate walls (one to the hall and one to the bathroom). The door direct to the bathroom is the reason we picked this room as the nursery. The third wall is entirely built in cupboards and the 4th wall is 90% window. And it's a small room to begin with... We just need to be a bit smart. I think the biggest challenge will be fitting in a feeding chair for the night feeds...

And in scarier news, DH paid the deposit on our patio and we started receiving paperwork for that today too. The builder has estimated it will be in by the end of November. I hope so, but I'm not holding my breath and I'll be happy if it just gets done by Christmas.

Brunette ive had a bout 3 friends that had strep b. No worries for them. They said it made them feel 'dirty' but i think its quite common.

As I have been away from a computer for the last 1 1/2 weeks I will just make this short and catch up from here.

Had a great time on my course and then camping. Back to reality now, we are renovating the house on the farm and will move in as soon as its done. So we are in total havoc at the moment, between the two places and trying to work and do all the other things you need to do (eg cooking) at the same time. Chose carpet and decided on one only to be told it wouldn't be available for 2 months! So decided to go with option #2 rather than wait as we don't want to move in only to move all the furniture a few weeks later.

CK77 - was interesting about the catheter thing, I had an epidural with #1 and they took the catheter out as soon as she was delivered (after the stitches). I was numb for it going in and out and didn't feel a thing.

On the strep B thing, it is a bacteria that can live in the vagina. It is present in many women and very common. Although you have a swab, it doesn't always detect it as it might not be present at the time of the swab. Although it's harmless for women it can be serious ie fatal to newborns. Stop reading now if you don't want to hear a sad story...





My sister had her first baby who was totally healthy but died in the middle of the night at 28 hours old from strep B without showing any signs earlier in the evening. It can happen really quickly. She did have a swab earlier in the preg but it was negative. Since then even if she swabbed neg she has just asked for the antibiotics during labour anyway and this protects the baby. When I had #2 (after this had happened to my sister) I asked for the antibiotics even though I had swabbed negative, explaining why of course. The Dr refused even though I had discussed it with a hospital Dr at an antenatal visit. However the midwife was lovely and got another Dr to sign off and gave them to me. It was very reassuring. So if you are worried I would ask for them - it won't do any harm and will stop you being paranoid in the first few days if you are worried. Sorry for the sad story girls but it is a really important issue and sometimes I think the Dr's just gloss over it saying there is nothing to be worried about. Personally I will be asking for the antibiotics again this time.

Juniper, thanks for offering to help with a new ticker. I'm too lazy and tired to change it, though, and am quite attached to my lucky four-leaf clover ticker. (I'm quite superstitious). Re strep B, as I said, I don't know if I have it as my OB won't tell me (I'll get it out of him by hook or by crook!) but at least he is alive to the issue and will give me antibiotics either at a scheduled c/s or beforehand if my waters break. I am going to ask him what are the chances of my babies getting sick if I am given antibiotics. I did some research and a UK site said the chances of babies getting ill is really low. Great news on getting your nursery theme stuff picked up. Not long till you start setting everything up then? How great if the patio is done before Xmas! We need to get some blinds for our patio but the $$$ have run out so we'll have to wait and try to save up.

Maggie, so sorry to hear about your sister. I will definitely insist on having antibiotics regardless. Thank you. Sounds like you are really busy ATM with renovations etc. Hope you get it all finished and can move in soon.
