I think we can all relate to the milestones and counting down. I feel bad alot cause all i wanted was to be pregnant and now i dont fully enjoy it from all the worry and obsession.

Welcome KellyD and congratulations on the twins! It probably seems overwhelming at the moment, were you expecting that you could have had twins??? I'm sure Brunette will be happy to have another twin mum in here, and she will definately have alot of wisdom for you.
Jaki, how lovely to hear a nice strong heartbeat. You would definately not be the only one brought to tears by this, me included!
Worrywart, on the DTD thing, I totally know where you are coming from. Everything you are feeling is normal. Luckily for me I have had a good libido this time (makes me think I am having another girl - as it was good with DD and non existant with DS). I am too big for missionary too, and feel that if I try to go on top there is too much fullness and pressure 'down there'. We have basically been spooning for the last two weeks and that is pretty comfortable. Sorry if TMI! Good luck.
AFM - should be renovating but at home today with two sick kids and as they have been waking alot feeling quite under the weather myself. ABC2 is doing the trick keeping DD entertained but DS is just wandering aimlessly. Off to the Dr in an hour.

AFM well I'm 16 weeks today and I am not holding my breath or counting the no. of days this time but the nausea is finally ebbing away. I had a bad night last week (unfortunately we were eating out, but DH got most of my meal too!) but since then have felt better. Still a little tired in arvo, but think that's just disrupted sleep. Have a moment now and then but fingers/toes crossed that I'm over the worst.
My girlfriend gave me 2 black bags full of summer mat. gear, so lucky. That's the 4th person who's done that so I'll not 'have' to buy anything. As she said, the upside to being the last one to have kids amongst your friends. It forced me to tidy/clear out and store the clothes that I can't, haven't or just shouldn't wear from now on so gotta go to crazy clarkes and get some storage boxes for under the bed!
Had a little fashion parade on my own when DH was at work, talking to one of the cats and the dog (who eventually lost interest unsurprisingly) constantly. 'What do you think of this one Missy?...ooh this is nice, just my colour....maybe a wee singlet under that one heh?"
I have just under 2 weeks till next ob app. and that's 5 weeks since the last. I haven't had that long a period between doing something like a blood test or a scan or a blood test or a scan or a..... since 12th July transfer. Plus I think my scales are broken. They said I was 69kg before pregnancy, then 69kg at ob app. then 69.2 last week, then 69.4 a few days later.....hmmmmm BUT DH did ask 'what are you doing???' when I stood half dressed looking at myself in the mirror and I said 'i'm pulling my tummy in....and that's as far as it goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' I think inspite of the bit of excess I've been carrying, I am starting to 'pop'!! Although if I 'let it all hang out' I look 7 months not 4 months! ;-)
Ok gotta go dryclean my mat. uniform that i've decided I'm finally gonna wear on Fri as i'm just too dam uncomfortable in uniform skirt. Have I mentioned my uniform is PURPLE broken up by a dusky pinkish blouse...and I mean deep, but simultaneously bright purple......but the mat. dress/tent.....all PURPLE, nothing to break it up, so I am gonna look more and more like a giant blackberry. WW, I've had almost zero libido, but had recently been pondering the logistics of DTD. Last time was pretty uncomfortable (both in terms of belly and that tight/sore issue) and the only reason I'd been thinking about it is because poor DH has gone without for 2 months now and I'm starting to feel guilty...
Jaki, sounds like you had a good appointment! I still cry at the drop of a hat these days. On Monday we saw movement for the first time and I was sitting there bawling my eyes out...
airline, congrats on reaching 16wks and starting to pop! Very exciting! I've spent so much time in front of the mirror staring at my belly it's ridiculous. So exciting to see and feel that bub is doing some major renovations in there! Congrats on picking up a good supply of maternity clothes too!
Afm, we had an OB appointment today and all is good. We've now got appointments booked through to Christmas which is a little scary...
Congrats Kelly - I was watching the TWW thread and saw your HCG levels, mine were actually higher than yours at the same dpo and I know I was 90% sure I was having twins, but just the one for me. Fabulous news for you!!
Airline, your uniform sounds delightful ;) I don't think anyone looks too glamorous when they are seriously pregnant, so you'll just look more stylish that the rest of us heah?
MaggiePie - understand about ABC2 - my DD spent too much time watching the TV in the months of this pregnancy I have been sick for, she seemed to like it and it's not like it's forever, just when Mum is sick and needs a break.
Sorry, was going to write more persies but my DD had just started moaning for a sleep in the background so had better go and put her for her nap.
AFM - Have put on more weight in the last two weeks, but am hoping I slow down a bit as I am coming from a low starting weight, I really dislike putting on heaps of weight, just because I am 'supposed' to. It's pretty freaky for a naturally thin person to be putting on weight only eating healthy foods, but it's happened before and I lost the weight, so I guess I have to get used to it happening again!
Woo hoo, Kelly, congratulations on having twins! What a shame you don't live in Brisbane so we could catch up! Anything you want to know, feel free to ask me either here or PM me. Do you know if yours are fraternal or identical yet? Wow you are going to be super busy having a toddler and twins to care for, but at least you know what to expect and have the experience of looking after one baby already.
Airline, FX that MS has buggered off for good! You made me laugh saying you're going to look like a big blackberry in your uniform. I'm sure you look great and very stylish. What happens when you can't fit into your uniform any longer? Can you then wear maternity clothes to work? That's great that you've been given a heap of maternity clothes, esp if they're recent ones. Costs a fortune to get some decent-looking maternity gear.
Juniper, yay on seeing movement for the 1st time! I do the same and look at my tummy all the time, sometimes in the mirror but often at night instead of watching TV. It's much more entertaining to watch the twins move and kick me than looking at the box :)
Maggie, hope the dr prescribes something to make your two kids feel better soon.
Lairdoz, if you're only eating healthy foods everyone tells me the weight just comes off afterwards with little trouble. I'm usually a very healthy eater but the last couple of weeks I've been having heaps of chocolate and cakes etc that I've been baking. I'm very naughty!

We are having fraternal twins, so that is one bonus.... When we have done all our FET cycles we always elected to have 2 embryo's put back as we had 14 on ice after our stim cycle so the chances of twins was a possibility but so far we have used up 11 frosties (we lost one in a thaw cycle) and this is our first ever cycle that both have taken. We still have 3 on ice but we have pretty much decided that we won't use them (unless we don't get a boy this time around and then maybe we might do 1 more)...
I was very lucky with DD as she started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks and we got her into a routine pretty early so I've told DH that once these 2 arrive our lives will become all about routine, routine and more routine. I just hope we have a couple more goodun's baking away....
I must laugh at your DTD talk... how you have the energy is beyond me. With DD my DH was too scared to even think about it as I think it just freaked him out and to be honest I think this time will be even worse as I was the size of a house with DD so I'm predicting I will be the size of a block of flats this time around lol...

Thanks also Maggie, Brunette, Juniper & Kelly for reassuring comments on the DTD topic. Though I will say do NOT type spooning into Google on a work computer. I just wanted to double-check I knew what that was, Maggie, and yes kind of ended up on an instructional video. Still laughing now.
Juniper, you saw movement? That is awesome. I haven't seen anything yet. I suppose I haven't looked though. I'm going to spend some time navel-gazing.
Lairdoz, you've been through it before with the weight gain and so forth yeah? Well, I'm quite a small person ... well, I was .... and I've put on I think above-average weight. Though what's average? My mum is tiny and she put on loads more than the average pregnant woman in the 70s. You know you'll lose it. Still, that healthy eating sounds aspirational. I just ate three mini chocolate bars (they were from the Lifeline charity chocolates at work ... and it is mental health week ... um, yeah, great excuse).
Gotta go, getting a lift home, yay!

Airline - so great about the maternity stuff. I still have all my stuff from last two but some is getting a bit 'old' for me now, trying to resist shopping but as do have enough to get me through.
Juniper - glad your appointment went well. Christmas is only 10 weeks away (scary) so your other appointments will be here before you know it! How cool is it watching your tummy move? Can't wait for that...
On the weight thing, I have always put on more than the recommended (about 15kgs) and both times have ended up 3kgs heavier than before I was preg. But I actuallly haven't tried to lose the weight as I always wanted to have more kids and didn't want to diet whilst BF or trying to fall. I am confident I will lose it after this bub, as I am pretty determined to get back to my normal weight. So don't worry about gaining weight, you will lose it again if you want to.
AFM - Both kids have tonsillitis so home again today. Starting to fall behind with renos but what can you do? Having these horrible feelings lately that something is wrong. I know I am just feeling paranoid, but after having a few little movements havent felt any in about a week. And I know its too early to worry about that, its just with no movements, no morning sickness, less tiredness etc I don't feel preg (apart from a belly of course). I know I am just a worrier and everything is fine but can't stop those thoughts creeping in..... Did anyone else have this around this time? Any suggestions?

How bizarre is that, I'm on the babies born list.... right at the bottom and I now get to go on the babies to be born list as well.
I am due 28/5/2011 and expecting twins, we will also be finding out the genders of these 2 bubba's.
How exciting Kelly,I can't believe how quickly time flies, being on the list twice!
MaggiePie- I breed lazy children who don't move very much, for this reason, I bought a heart doppler for my DD and have used it for this pregnancy also just when I haven't felt anything in a while. It was the best money I spent as I never worry about it anymore (makes the OB visits a bit redundant given the only other thing they do is take my blood pressure). I am sure bubs is absolutely fine, just having a snooze!
I think the average weight again is 12-16 kgs, and of course that is the 'average' because some of us are smaller to start with and some larger. Some people actually lose weight during their pregnancies. I completely agree about not worrying too much, I just have to try not to think about my growing behind!!
Worrywort- I completely avoid DTD as I have had bleeding the entire time, which gets one more thing off my to do list!
Jaki -I know what you mean about not moving up, I feel the same way. We also haven't had any newbies here in far too long, so I hope there are some BFP's soon!
AFM - My DH has his last day at work today before he starts his own business(read-no income),so I have been a bit stressed about the reality of this, even though he already has deals in the pipeline and we have a buffer to last a long time without a salary). I get a call today from my work (I never hear from them at all) telling me that the bank I work for is cutting 120+ jobs over the next 15months, and mine is one of them,which means I no longer have a job to go back to. Not that bad I guess as I get redundancy based on when my mat leave finishes, but not the best timing telling me today. I feel sorry for myself and my beautiful bub who I can't stop my stress hormones from impacting as I think we deserve some good news as this year with all the IVF and this pregnancy so far has been full of far too much stress! (enough of my self-pity now!)

yes giant blackberry here...someone was asking whether I get mat. uniform...the big purple dress/tent IS my mat. uniform! The purple 2 pice suit is my regular uniform! Andy yes I think i'll look like chick form willy wonker!! The thing is I have boring brown hair and put a home dye in it...which is a kind of aubergine (insert purply hue!!) so I totall tone in when under the spotlights!! Not intentional, but passengers commen sometimes. Anyhoooooo....
yes Jaki and Lairdoz I was thinking how I was still at the bottom after 16 weeks..but there must be another pregnancy forum cos I know folk from the old forum trying to fall pregnant who aren't on this one.

Lairdoz, if you're still eating healthy, then I'd guess that the weight you're gaining is all related to bub rather than a growing behind, so try not to let it bother you. I'm sure you look great! I'm one of those women starting from the other end and I'm currently 14kg less than I was at EPU. I've had more "luck" losing weight while pg than when I wasn't. Not that I'm trying. I'm just continuing to restrict my refined sugar intake (ie soft drink, chocolate, etc, same as before our IVF) because I'm dreading the GTT (which I have to do in about 2 weeks)... Every time I get on the scales, the midwife gives me a pat on the back... Sorry to hear about your job. That's terrible timing. I hope your DH's business kicks off quickly and one of those deals comes through soon.

Airline, you are cracking me up with your purple! I myself seem to only own stretchy things with horizontal stripes, so .. I guess I look kind of like a beach ball ... or I will soon ... And glad to hear MS waning ... As for movement, my friend didn't feel anything til 24 weeks (healthy babies both times) and I didn't really feel anything for sure til .. 19 weeks? Even now, the baby stops for a day or so and then I freak, and then eventually a get a double-punch or kick to reassure me.
Lairdoz, sorry to hear about these continual stresses. Don't feel like your stress will affect the baby though. I have done a bit of research on that and I think baby's at risk only when mum's living in situations of extreme trauma (like living with violence or war). Anyway, I know it's still bl**dy crap to have stress, and I too worry about this effect on my baby in the womb. Hoping that this eases up soon.

Yes girls, my first day in my maternity dress/tent was wonderful. DH's last words were, 'that looks atrocious!'....and my male supervisor thought it was from my own wardrobe - stupid bloody man! Anyway, on the way to work, I decided having driven past so many, that if I stood and swayed on the spot, I could be mistaken for a Jacaranda tree.
Oh well, may the bump grow and make it more obvious that I'm UTD and don't just have bad taste :-)

Lairdoz - sorry to hear about the redundancy. When I got the news of mine, it was such a shock. I'd worked for the company for 9 years at that stage... I finish up on 26th November and my redundancy should be paid within 24 hours. That money is supposed to renovate our kitchen and bathroom and essentially be my income while I am at home with baby. I had really hoped to take 12mths but realistically I'm going to have to look for a new job at the 6mth mark and that is just stressing me to the max, so I totally understand the stress you are under currently. I really wanted to do a full 12mths of breastfeeding but with having to find a job halfway through I just don't see how I can do it, expressing milk in the work toilet every few hours - sounds fantastic.
WW - have you tried on your back with one leg up kind of on DH's shoulder, it kind of gets him in more of a kneeling possie so he's not lying ON you, and if on your back isn't the most comfy you can kind of roll at bit to the side. That was the position we did last time, which was MONTHS ago, yes MONTHS ago - poor DH.

MaggiePie - thanks for sharing the strep story, I'm not sure now whether to lie to the doctor and say a cousin (or something) had that happen to them and I demand antibiotics - what do you think?
Ummm... after MissK delivers, I'm next.(well technically, but yeah Brunette I guess you will probably beat me, those little twins will be too crowded in there to go full term). How time flies, I can remember those early weeks like it was yesterday. I hope my child growing up doesn't pass this quickly.
MissK you must be so excited (or nervous?, or both?).
Brunette, I am totally with you on your belly being more interesting than the telly, it's just a non stop footy match in there isn't it! I swear this baby does not sleep.
We're off to the final parenting class tomorrow, and then next week the hospital has 'dog, baby and you' - preparing your dog for your newborn's arrival. If anyone's interested it's at North West 23/10 10am-11am. Being that my boxer is very exuberant and is treated like our firstborn, I can see her nose being out of joint when baby turns up on the door step..
Take it easy this weekend, hope you all have a great one (and a bit of sunshine for Brissy wouldn't got astray).

CK77- I have two ****er spaniels, one timid and one very affectionate (read:sits all over you). Our dogs were and occassionally still are known to share the bed with DH and I so I too was worried about them. In the all day ante-natal class they talked about pups and bubs, the best thing I did was play babies screaming and the dogs were so used to the noise than when our DD arrived, they weren't interested. It's like they knew she was a baby (of what kind they didn't know!).
Juniper -great news you have been able to lose weight (assuming of course this is good news for you from a health perspective). My friend is a larger frame and she lost about 15 kgs with her DS, I think from all the morning sickness though!
Airline - glad you enjoyed the 1st day in your purple dress,sometimes you just have to laugh don't you!
Jaki - I agree and think we need to do some promotion as there haven't been many newbies in here for a long time!

AFM - I have to say you ladies are fabulous - thanks so much for your kind words. I am obviously a bit unhappy with the timing, but when I calculated the redundancy (I don't get made redundant until I want to return to work (2 years after bubs is born) and in the meantime I keep accruing service years for my payment and it's way more money than I thought it would be!
Had my OB appointment today, and my crappy hip from the last pregnancy which caused me to be induced has started up as of the last couple of days -with the OB telling me that of course I can't take anything of any use, so will be induced at 38 weeks, likely to be immobile from about 32-34 weeks - yippeeee!
Lairdoz, great news about getting way more from your redundancy payout than you originally thought. Bad news about having to be induced at 38 weeks and probably immobile from 32ish weeks. I really feel for you as I know what it's like to be on bed rest; it totally sucks. I've had the threat of bed rest hanging over me my entire PG and it's awful. It has made me walk nearly every morning for half an hour as I never know if it's going to be my last day out. FX that your hip gets better and you can go to term without any immobility. Have you tried acupuncture and physio?
Chrissy, how did you hear about the dog, baby and you class at NW? Sounds interesting. I think I have a massage around that time on saturday, though, which is a bummer. Sorry to hear that your redundancy won't stretch as long as you wanted to and you may have to go back earlier. That's rough. I was planning on having 12 months too but being on bed rest and not working full time throughout has meant I have way less leave than I would have. Still I have just put in my leave and have stretched it out (on full pay and half pay) to 10.5 months so am pretty stoked. DH will then take about 3-4 months off so the twins will be at least 1 year old before they have to go to child care a couple of times a week. Try not to stress (as I type this I know it's probably impossible because financial stress is hard to stop). Hope you get a way better job than the one you're leaving in terms of flexibility to look after bub.
Quick update for me: had an appt with my OB on Monday and we're doing well. Blood pressure good, no strep B (yay!), both heartbeats seen and heard. OB estimated weight of twins if I get to 38 weeks to be 6 and a half pounds! Other than fluid, swelling, carpal tunnel and a very sore right heel for the last few days, I'm feeling pretty good. Not long to go now. If the twins play ball, about 6 or 7 weeks! We have our second growth scan this Friday, so wish me luck that my low lying placenta has moved up so I don't have to have a CS under general and be knocked out and be the last person to see my babies!

Lairdoz, I hope your hip stabilises a bit, or at least that you're not too long on bed rest. That's at least a bit of a mixed blessing then with your redundancy package.
AFM, I'm fine. Got a bit stressed over weekend after attending an active birthing class and feeling like the only person there who had a private obstetrician and wasn't going to a birth centre and planning to have an ecstatic birth, or something. Does anyone else feel concerned that they will be sort of strong-armed into medical intervention and won't really have the willpower to say No? I'm confused. Also, what is up with my ticker? I hope you don't mind me intruding on your thread!! I hope to be a bona fide member myself one day (currently on clomid after ttc # 2 for several years). I just wanted to comment on what you said about being "strong-armed" into medical intervention. It's kind of ironic you say this because I actually feel the opposite is true. I have read a lot of pages on this forum and I think that sometimes within this community there is a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) "pressure" to home birth with a doula or some other non-medical intervention otherwise you are somehow doing both yourself and your baby a disservice, or are lazy or selfish or a bad parent. The "pressure" then continues to use cloth nappies, breastfeed (usually for several years), use attachment parenting techniques, etc, etc....From what you are saying in your post, this attitude does not seem limited to this forum or others like it, and is alive and well in the "real world". I personally have no problem in people conceiving, birthing, parenting in any way they deem fit or are able (*usual disclaimer - as long as it is not harmful, etc). It makes you kind of think people need to mind their own business and be a little tolerant about other people's choices. We are very fortunate in this country to have affordable, high quality medical care and support at our disposal during pregnancy (and throughout our whole lives!). Perhaps that's why we have such low maternal/perinatal mortality rates. Your choice is as valid as everyone else's choice. If you trust your OB, you have to accept he/she will partner with you and keep you fully informed so you can make decisions together. If any additional interventions are needed - eg. induction, caesarian, etc - then you also have to assume that your OB is doing what's best for your little one (and you!). Stay strong in your choices and remember the only thing that matters at the end is a happy, healthy baby in your arms :)

Yes, I agree with what you're saying. I think that there's a fairly militant group advocating for "natural" or "normal" (which bugs me immensely, the use of that particular word) childbirth. At this class, I asked "ah ...what is 'normal' exactly?" and was told it was vaginal birth. Of course, that is the way nature planned for it to happen, and it's certainly something I'd like to try for, but I don't want to feel a failure if it doesn't work out that way. Also, it was so hard to get pregnant and there was so much "medical intervention" there, and I don't think I'd be pregnant if I hadn't had the surgery for endo (which is thanks to modern medicine and doctors). Also, it may be our only chance to have a child, for all I know.
Still, I have a ... kind of slight unease about doctors and authority figures generally, so I guess my concern is based on my own personal psychology, which is very ... compliant ... and wanting to please people in authority ... and non-assertive.
I hate to hear that about that kind of judgment you're talking about. I feel it a bit too, at times. I guess it will increase, as we make choices. Still, my other personality trait is a sometimes unreasonable sense of being right all the time, so that's handy! No, not really! I am full of self-doubt. I don't know what to do. But over the years, I am becoming stronger at disregarding others' judgments. F- them!
Anyway, n2l, just wanted to wish you best of luck for your next little one arriving very soon! I hope you're back here again soon with good news.
Lol....It's nice to hear I might be a source of excitement WorryWart! I am sure my comments will rile some people. But then, again, it riles me when I hear the term "normal" used for vaginal birth, etc. Does that mean I am abnormal given my DDs birth was via c-section??? It saved her life so I thank God every day that I chose to be "abnormal" and have her running around, annoying me today, almost nine years later. Cheers to being abnormal and unnatural!
(ps. my dirty little secret is I will be using disposable nappies when, and if, I am lucky enough to have a baby lol --- I am just pure evil ;) )
haha n2l, I love your comments about being "abnormal". I must be super abnormal then... DD was via a (shock horror) planned c-section - which I decided at 10 weeks - she only wears disposable nappies and is even.... wait for it.... formula fed.
When the next 2 arrive, they will also make an entrance via the "sunroof" and wear disposable nappies and will hopefully be both breast and formula fed (more out of expense) if possible, if not then it will be 100% formula fed.
I think that everyone has the right to choose however they wish to birth their child and that ultimately all we are aiming for is to have a healthy baby and mother in the end. If that is via a home birth, in a birthing centre or in a private hospital then that is the choice we as parents to be make to feel comfortable and safe.

Hi Brunette - really glad to hear Monday's appt went well (especially the Strep part, I was freaking out for you about that!!). Regarding the dogs and newborns sessions at Nth West, they run them every few weeks and I think there are some in November. If you just give Bris City Council a call they should be able to tell you when they are, or go to their website and in their search I think I *EVENTUALLY* found the info by typing dog newborn everton park - or something similar.
Next OB appt for me is not until the 28th, which is a scan. Totally hanging out (literally) for it!

Have been away for a bit with no internet (or even mobile service) so thought I would check in. I think I must have relaxed a but whilst away as have felt bub every day since then! It's just lovely.
Juniper, good on you for your good diet. I just ate a packet of twisties. Oh well...
CK77 - firstly - you must be flexible! IYKWIM! And on the breastfeeding / working thing. I went back to work for one day when DD was 3 1/2 months old. I managed to work it so she had 2 feeds in the morning (one first thing and one at drop off), and two in evening (one at pick up and just before bed), as well as her usual night feed. At work I found that I only had to express once a day, in my lunch break. Yes my boobs would be pretty full by the end of the day but it worked. And then I only had to express once more in the week to have enough milk for her to drink whilst I was at work. If you can get to six months before going back to work it could be easier as bub will be having solids then too. Just keep an open mind, and do what you can and what is right for you. And don't feel like a failure if you have to supplement with formula - you could BF morning and night and have formula for the day if you need too. Just be confident that you WILL work out what is best for you when the time comes.
Worrywart - I think if you are worried about unneccessary intervention a good plan is to do your birth plan; but mostly to talk to your partner as they can be your main advocate during labour. I remember that at times I did feel helpless and it is very easy to be led into decisions that you don't really agree with. But my DH was like 'what is that for?, why do you need to do that?" etc etc. He was really great, and questioned a bit and stuck up for me. I think if you already have a good relationship with your OB, maybe do a birth plan now and discuss it at the next visit???
Have to laugh about the 'going to hell' thing. I think all us mums will! I have used both cloth and disposable and there is no wrong or right answer. If you are worried about the environment there are fully biodegradeable disposable nappies so use those. I have hardly used the cloth since being preg as couldn't stand the poo with m/s. So I guess I am going to hell too! Just do whatever feels right at the time, trust your instincts (mine have always been right - better than the dr's at times too) and you will all be great.
Brunette - good luck for the scan, hope that placenta has moved up!
AFM - have 19 week scan next Tuesday, getting excited. DH really wants to find out what we are having but I still don't really want to / am unsure. So we will see what happens next week!

I completely agree that everyone has the right to choose what works best for them.
I have to admit, I decided against going to Nth West hospital because they have a reputation for a high rate of c-sections. I'd prefer to avoid a c-section if it's not necessary, as I'd prefer to avoid the associated recovery. But if something goes wrong and we need one I'm not about to refuse it. For me I just hope I've picked a doctor who will support a vaginal birth until it becomes a risk, rather than when it becomes an inconvenience (as some Drs are reputed to do).
I'd also like to avoid the epidural if I can get by without it. Firstly, the idea of a needle in my spine freaks me out (I've come a long way with my needle phobia, but not that far). Secondly, my SIL had unfortunate side effects from one of her epis and it just doesn't seem worth it right now. But, again, if it comes to the crunch and I just can't get by without that pain relief, then I'm not going to refuse it. It's amazing how many men will tell you to get the epi! Has anyone else had that?
To be honest, the whole labour and birth part scares the blazes out of me right now. I just hope I can learn enough between now and then to make informed decisions when the time comes. Otherwise, I'll just have to trust my Dr.
Oh, and while I plan to breastfeed, we're on Team Disposable for nappies! All those new shaped cloth nappies are very cute, but I just don't want to deal with the laundering. I know soiled clothing, sheets, upholstery, etc, are inevitable, but the more mess I can throw out instead of cleaning up, the better...
Anyway, I had some cramping yesterday which was freaking me out a little. But we've got our repeat anatomy scan this afternoon, so hopefully that will show that all is fine. Then we're off to our antenatal class with the physiotherapist tonight.
ps. Did Tim Tams get super sweet or has my taste for sugar just declined? I had a craving yesterday and they seemed outrageously sweet (the double coat version)... I could barely manage 2 biscuits.
ETA: MaggiePie, lol, when I bought the Tim Tams yesterday I also bought a multipack of Shapes biscuits. I just polished off two of those mini packs for "lunch". However, I'm about to have an apple too. That counts as a "balanced" diet, right? A bit of good, a bit of bad... ;)
Thanks girls for all of these comments about choice/birth options/nappy options/BF/formula options. It's encouraging just to hear that everyone does things differently. Of all my friends with kids (a lot), funnily enough the ones who've had c-sections seem the most chilled out as parents (that's probably just a massive coincidence though!). Anyway, I'm not sure what I'm saying here - just that obviously, it's the big picture that counts.

AFM, saw OB today and he fairly cracked it about the scare-mongering at that class! I still feel a bit uncertain but we've gone through some details about the birth, and we'll bring in some dot points (reluctant to call it a "plan" ... you know, the best laid plans of mice and men ...). God knows what will happen. I'm pretty ... not confident. I do get teary now and then. I just have such a lack of confidence in myself. The thing is, I think I need to forget about it for a while, and just focus on enjoying this time. Bubs is kicking a fair bit. We heard the heart beat! All is good except permanent thrush which won't budge. I'm on cream the whole time and trying to avoid sweets/white flour.

WW, try not to worry as when the time comes I am sure your inner strength will kick in and you will make the right decisions for you and your baby. That's a bummer about having permanent thrush and not being able to get rid of it. I hate thrush; it's the pits. You're being so good in avoiding sugar. As I said above, I'm in lurve with it ATM. Very naughty I know.
I’m loving the `going to hell’ conversation. I have found many people to be this way, both online and in real life, and it is one thing that annoys the hell out of me. I firmly believe women should support other women’s choices, whether that is formula or BFing, CS or vaginal, cloth or disposables etc. I have come across some Nazis from the ABA, too, and nearly had a row with one woman when I went to get information on expressing pumps for hire. I was basically told to read some literature on the topic of mixed feeding as it leads to nipple/teat confusion for the babies. My partner is wanting to help me feed the twins for the 10 pm feed (he’s a night owl and I could grab a few hours sleep!) I told her I had read plenty of literature about the topic and a number of experts recommend introducing a bottle early (around 3 weeks) if at some stage you’re going to bottle feed otherwise it can be extremely difficult for them to transition. She made me so cross.
Brunette, FX for your scan tomorrow. I hope your placentas are cooperating. We had a repeat anatomy scan because bub was uncooperative at the first one. In particular they couldn't get good shots of her face (to check nose, lips, etc). Even yesterday we only got the profile shot at the last second just as the sonographer was about to give up on getting it. She likes to hide her face. No shame in showing us she's a girl, but doesn't want us to see her face - go figure... The good news is the OB at the centre did get our first ever (and probably last before she's born) 3D shot of her face right at the end too. I haven't had a chance to scan it in yet, but really wish I had it here with me at work to stare at all day!
So, scan went well. All fingers and toes accounted for, heart good, brain present, good fluid, etc. Antenatal class was good too. It was all about body changes, safe lifting procedures, how to sit, how to stand, how to sleep, etc. I knew a lot of it, but did learn some things, so worth attending.
just jumping on here. it's very early days for us (5 weeks on sunday) so keep fingers crossed.
After reading that list, i see KellyD and I have the enviable position of making both the lists ie due 2011; spawned 2009! lol. We must be nuts!
We have just the one GrubbyBubby due on June 26 2011 :) Only had two embies to use and this was the first cab off the rank, so to speak. So we were a bit floored to find out it, gulp, worked first go! seriously, who ever has that luck!

Juniper - we (DH and I) also found the antenatal class that included the session on physio the most interesting... although I felt like the failure of the class as I can't seem to use those lower belly muscles to 'bring the baby in towards my spine' and I don't think my pelvic floor muscle is up to scratch. Regarding the high rate of c-sections at Nth West, do you have any information on that or can you point me in the right direction (I wonder if there's info on which OBs have the highest rate of them, knowing my luck it'll be mine). Really glad you got the face shot of your little one, I'm guessing it's already stuck up on the fridge!
Brunette - hope all went well at your scan and you can have a nice relaxing weekend. I'll take a notepad with me to the dog class thingee tomorrow and jot down anything of interest.
Oh and MaggiePie, I'm not THAT flexible - remember DH and I haven't DTD for quite a while so my belly wasn't as big then :(
Re going to hell - I'm trying to err on the side of au natural (cloth nappies, b/feeding without formula assistance) but I've got a very opinionated SIL with two littlies who likes to tell me that I'll never keep up the cloth nappies and they've done reports and it works out to be about the same cost overall as disposable when you factor in laundry (electricity + detergents). It's more the environmental reasons but there's no trying to reason with her, she's right, I'm wrong - why bother. Re introducing expressed breast milk, I was going to aim to do this pretty much straight away but at the antenatal class that focussed on breastfeeding the lactation consultant said it's best to wait until about 6wks when baby is very confident on the boob and established in a pattern... (great, I was hoping for the 2am feed to be done by DH - no cigar!)
So it seems that whatever way you swing, there's always going to be those that don't agree with your choices - so be it. It's not their body nor is it their child.
So, my night will be spent hand washing up a massive load of dirty dishes. Our dishwasher broke and DH is YET to call them and get it fixed. Do I have to do everything around here??!! :wall:
