Hi,

Mindhugs - ouch - I have heard it is a really big fat needle, but sorry, I have never had to use it so can't offer advice. Can you ask the doc? Can you do it into the thigh? I love your film idea - what an emotional one!

DR - Sounds like your counselling sesh was really helpful. I hope that after your scan and when bub is wriggling around more you can start to feel the bond you are looking for. It wont affect the baby if it doesn't happen till after the birth though - but I know what you mean in wanting it to come now. To be honest, I don't feel connected to mine yet and am still not comfortable talking about it with people - just because of how hard it was to get here. And I am SURE that your donor would have been a good person. Just the act of donating sperm and everything that entails suggests they have some really good qualities. Well luv, I really hope you can work through this stuff soon xxoo

Jaki - not sure if you'll get this message - do they allow computers in the psych ward? Seriously, I hope you are too busy pushing out that baby. Good luck!!!!!! GOOD LUCK. (And good luck to the ob who gets you demanding not to leave pregnant! haha)

and thanks Kelly D! just been having a lovely time at the local wave pool with my parents, who are visiting, DH and DS.

am feeling very very tired these days as not sleeping well (darn hips are killing me).

I'll try to pop back in again in a few days, once the olds have left for some persies but just wanted to send big hugs to all my ladies here. You are all so much stronger that you think and I admire you all - look at where you've come from and where you are at and be proud of your achievements!!!

The problem is that in the 2 years I was searching for a donor I met so many guys who were donating for reasons which turned me off. Many felt that their genes were superior so they wanted to have as many children as possible to help the human race. Some felt they would never have children of their own (for one reason or another) and wanted to die knowing that they had left some of themselves on earth. Guys also get paid for their sperm so there is the chance he did it for the extra cash. So just the fact that he donated doesn't necessarily mean he's a nice guy. I would hate to have a donor who thought his genes were superior because I'd worry about the child inheriting such a high opinion of themself.

The private donor who I was initially trying with wanted to help women because he had seen his sister in law struggle to get pregnant (due to her husbands low sperm count) and my donor already had kids and knew what a blessing they were so he wanted to be able to help out other women in his sister-in-laws situation. I think thats a great reason to donate.

Sorry for the me post but wanted to let you all know what happened today at my Ob appt and beyond.... Well my Ob was running late and I was sitting waiting I started to get some contractions pains so when it was my turn I was all checked out, GD not a problem whew, blood pressure all o.k, babies heartbeats all correct - although baby b didn't want to stay still and kept kicking the doppler - belly measurement same size as a full term singleton and questionable contractions. So after my appt off to the hospital for a steriod injection (I have another tomorrow) and CTG monitoring. CTG showed mild contraction but Ob was happy for me to come home but I am having the steriods to develop the babies lungs because as they are both good sizes my Ob wants to make sure they have some lung maturity so if they come early then we don't have to go to Melbourne. So now I have to get to 32 weeks for the steriods to have done what they need to and then anytime after that I need to be prepared for them to arrive, so anythime from the next 2 1/2 weeks onwards my babies might arrive. Luckily we have everything all done as it seems even my Ob now thinks they will be here very soon.

What a scary time for you with the contractions. Atleast as you said they are both a decent size for their age. Hope the steriods do their job and they wait atleast another 3 weeks or so to make sure their lungs are developed enough. If they are born after this time does that mean you won't have to go to Melbourne at all? If they are born before this how long would they be likely to need to stay in the neonatal ward in Melbourne? Do you have any family or friends in Melbourne that you would be able to stay with if it came to that?
Good luck for the next few weeks. On the bright side you have already made it further through the pregnancy then a friend of mine did with her singleton baby and despite having to be in hospital for 100 days post birth he is now doing really well - (now 6months post when he should have been born and meeting appropriate milestones).

kelly- sounds like you have had a scary time...hope the steroids can strengthen the boys lungs ...how are you feeling now? It must feel like all systems go with them potentially arriving so soon

MH- the clexane does hurt, but I have become more used to it...I inject in my tummy...I am bruised all around and below my belly button. My midwife said in the later stages of pregnancy, you can actually inject in the top of your thigh, if the tummy gets too difficult... (I wondered how it would be with a big stretched tummy!). I hope it gets easier for you..it does make the ivf needles seem like a snack though ;)
and yes, people can be very insensitive!! i still get angry also

lori- hope you are feeling a bit better and glad you were able to really talk things through with someone

afm- all going well, heard the baby's heartbeat again this week...love that! Feeling well and enjoying being pregnant...doing lots of pregnancy meditations and things. My tummy looks pregnant now, not just a pot belly, lol. I love it. I hope all is going well in there!

just trying to decide now re our next scan...the antenatal clinic here likes us to have the 18-20 wk scan at 18 weeks. I have been going to our private scanning place (where we went for ivf) for all scans, andknow the sonographer there, who is great, always explains all and answers all questions, gives us a dvd etc. Only problem, they are closed and reopen when I will be almost 20 weeks. so i either go to the public imaging place at 18 weeks, or hold off (so eager for the next scan!)...and go to the lady we know at 20 weeks (and we want to find out the sex too). thoughts?

Also, I have put in a request for a pregnancy avy! exciting.

DR: With the steriods and due to the babies being over 3lb each already Michael feels confident if born around 32 weeks or after then they can stay in Ballarat - which would be much better for us. If they come before then they will have to go to Melbourne and they will be there until they can be managed by Ballarat before being transferred back. Unfortunately the family we have in Melbourne are all in the South Eastern suburbs (so with Melbourne traffic can take about 1 1/2 hours to get to hospital) but I have been told if we do go to Melbourne then I can be put up at the hospital as they have accommodation for regional/rural patients. Fingers crossed we get through the next 2 weeks and then anything over that will be a bonus.

kelly- hope you dont have to go to melbourne

afm- i do have a symptom which isnt fun that I forgot to mention...i can hear my heart beating/pounding through my head/ears, all the time...makes it hard to go to sleep and can be quite awful at times during the day too ...some times it eases, other times it really whooshes through my head... I experienced this when my Graves disease was out of control, but I am currently normal for thyroid function etc, so it's not caused by that. Possibly by extra blood flow in pregnancy. It's annoying though. I called the clinic and they said if I am really worried to see my GP but it's probably a pregnancy symptom. any else had anything like this? As I said in my last post, overall I am doing really well, except for this pounding heartbeat! (it's not racing though).

Kelly - fingers crossed you make another 2 weeks!!!

Possums - My heart pounds like I'm having an anxiety attack at least once a day. Can't hear it in my ears though. I usually sit down for a few minutes and then it goes away.

AFM - I'm certain I felt some fluttering or light kicking for many minutes this morning. Can that happen at 17 weeks already? Was so strange.

Kelly, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you that they boys stay inside for atleast another 2 weeks.

At least its good that there is accommodation available for you at the hospital if the need arises. My great uncle was from a small country town and had to have cancer treatment at a Melbourne hospital. I remember his wife was able to stay in accommodation owned by the hospital while he was being treated (it was a 3 hour drive each way from home to Melb). But obviously it would be much nicer to be at home and have the support of family and friends around you too.

Hey girls,
I might post elsewhere separately but I'm gonna quickly post on here first. Went to OB and happened to mention my insomnia which has been really bad last couple of weeks. When asked what caused it, I said, initially awoken with bladder but prevented from sleeping with itching that moves all around body but no rash. He said I may have cholestasis........... and neither DH or I have been neurotic at any appointment or through this pregnancy, something I'm proud of, bearing in mind how long and how we got here, and OB is a relaxed guy....but when I asked if I should've mentioned it before, he said, would've been good so we could rule it out earlier. From 37 weeks, is considered dangerous, can cause interuterine stillborn, etc. The bloodtest normally takes 2 weeks to get results back, but he wants me back on Monday and said that he may induce.

Of course, we've done nothing but worry now all afternoon. Has anyone heard of this condition? know anyone who's had it? etc? Everything we read says past 37 weeks, often induction is the answer....now I don't know whether I should ask for c-section cos I just want him out and safe. I'm 38 weeks and 2 days now, ........ advice????????????????????????? xx

Airline: I have heard of the condition but not suffered it myself, all I can say is that DD was born at 38 + 3 and was perfect. Your little man is now full term and so long as you can still feel him moving around then that will hopefully settle your mind until Monday. If there is any chance of something happening, I would ask you Ob to deliver ASAP, so make sure you have your bags packed and ready in the car as you might find after your appt on Monday you might be heading off to the hospital.

I'll be thinking of you and hope your little boy is safe in your arms in the next few days.
