20 week scan - subchorionic hypoechoic area

Yesterday I had my 20 week scan (at 19 weeks) and everything went really well. We saw some amazing pictures and saw our little baby from every angle and everything appeared well, it was very exciting! I knew I had a blood clot as the obstetrician had told me and it was supposed to be checked out yesterday. I haven't had any bleeding in a few weeks. The lady doing the scan said she could still see the clot but it was well away from the placenta - which is sitting high and there was no blood flow within it. This morning I picked up the report and it says:

There is a subchorionic hypoechoic area at the lower margin of the placenta which measures 5.2 x 3.7 x 1.4cm and may represent subchorionic heamorrhage.

I did some google searches but can't find alot of info and the size of it seems quite large to me?? Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

To be honest - I wouldn't worry about it too much. You knew it was there and the lady said that it wasn't on the placenta and there was no blood flow to it (so it isn't still freshly bleeding).

Check it with your Obs when you have your next appointment - but they will have been faxed a copy of the report as well (well mine always is - I assume that this is standard practice) and will ring you if any alarm bells go off.

I am so happy your had such a great scan and enjoyed it all hun.

If it was something the sonographer was really worried about they would have told you then and there. Bring it up with your Ob next time you're there, I'm sure everything with you and bub will be just fine.

Take care babe, hope you're feeling happy and well xx

i too am glad that you had a great scan and got to see your beautiful, perfect baby!

i reckon it is just technical jargon for the blood clot...can you call your OB office and ask him to talk it through with you before you see them? when will you see them?
