    achey belly & heartburn

    Hey girls, just a quick one... has anyone had a really achey belly during about week 20/21/22...?

    Belly just feels really sore and stretched... im sure its normal... does anyone have any remedies?

    And also heartburn... is there anything else i can take except Tumms???

    I never had heart burn but to stop my belly feeling stretched, I folded up a single doona and put it under belly and between legs to sleep. I also moisturised twice a day to help the skin with stretching.

    I think it's pretty normal to have that sore/stretchy feeling. I'm getting it this time around as well - you'd think my belly would already be stretched enough! No idea what to help - I usually just end up rubbing it absentmindedly when it's bothering me.

    And as for heartburn - I just chew on Tums, but fruit tingles also help. I think if it gets really, really bad you could ask your midwife/OB about something stronger.

    Mylanta and double strength mylanta are totally fine for pregnancy and the double strength have been my best friend since 1st trimester!!
    Something more natural tho is natural yogurt...(jalna is good and not nasty tasting!) A tablespoon or two when you have heartburn or reflux is great!

    I had a sore tummy from like 18 weeks up until now! I find using pure almond oil (from health food shop) and rubbing it in all over my belly helps... Just gives it a nice gentle massage... And almond oil is amazing for preventing stretchies and is cheap! I haven't even gotten to 3/4 of the bottle yet and have been using it on my tummy n hips everyday!

    Thanks ladies- all very helpful! will try the above tips and tricks- MrsBexie, the almond oil sounds great, wil be popping out to grab some tomorrow!

    The double strength chewable Mylanta works a charm! But I warn you it tastes like chalk :P

    I think the achy feeling is normal as everyone has said.

    For heartburn/reflux, it depends how bad it is and how often you have it. Ways to deal with it are, avoid the foods that affect you, usually tomato based foods. Sleep propped up, so more pillows to keep you elevated. Try mylanta, quikeze etc, if your heartburn/reflux is quite constant speak to your dr or mw about taking zantac, zantac works wonders and you only have to take one or 2 tablets a day. If your heartburn/reflux is really bad or you have had complications then your OB/GP should put you on Losec, you need a script for that though, the other stuff is all over the counter.

    Mrsbexie, Thanks for the almond oil tip, im going to buy some tomorrow, havent heard of using that one before.

    Almond oil is awesome because it has no smell, a really high concentration of vit e, really really cheap and lasts ages!! It's just the cooking one!

    Hey, like Kristi said, Zantac has been recommended by my OB as safe to take during pg. It is over the counter at the chemist so you don't need a script. I am going to get some as even though I hate taking any meds, the heartburn is killing me and I guess Mylanta or Quickease are just as bad as Zantac in the scheme of things. Just to not have to wake at night with a mouth ful of acid would be nice hey?
