marginal placenta previa - most resolve themselves?

I was told this week at my scan that my placenta is 1.5cm from my cervix, and they want to do a scan at 32 weeks to assess if it's moved away. From what I see on Dr Google, am I right in thinking this is marginal placenta previa?

My question - how many others have been in this position and had it move away successfully? My google friend suggests that most resolve themselves by full term. And am I better to delay the scan to 34 or 36 weeks to get a better indication?

    TIA,
    Belfie

marginal placenta previa - most resolve themselves?

This happened to me with dd1, it did resolve itself by the scan at 32 weeks. They will want to do the scan at 32 weeks and will do another one if needed later. It's done at 32 weeks so they know if they need to intervene if you go into labour. Hope yours does resolve itself too.

    Hi Belfie,

I also have this with this pregnancy and will have a scan at 34wks (probably depends on Ob or carers as to when they scan). My placenta at my 19wk scan was on the edge of my cervix. I have tried not to stress about it nothing can be done just have to hope and pray, but I had a really good labour with DS and hoping for the same this time.

My Ob explained it as if the placenta is vertical and attached at one side then as your uterus grows with the baby the placenta moves up and away from the cervix. If the placenta is attached diagonally across the cervix then it will remain covering the cervix throughout the pregnancy and will need a CS.

Please dont stress about it. It was of those things we have no control over. Last time I didn't feel DS move very often as the placenta was at the top on the front this bub I have felt everything from 16wks so that has to be a bonus. It's a mover and a groover this one lol.

    Take care
    Hansie xx

I hope it moves further away for you.

3.5weeks ago my placenta was completely sitting over my cervix.
Scan the other day at 18+5weeks (3weeks from last scan) and my placenta has moved and the edge is now 4cm away from my cervix.

I was told not to get my hopes up as it may move back. But its a good sign its moved already.

Fireflies - that's great that it's already moved, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it stays away. I've also heard from another girl whose placenta was still close at 32 weeks, but had moved by 37 weeks.

I'd already read the articles (thanks Kelly) but still keen to hear from anyone else who has had this experience? If it did move, when was it checked, and how much did it move by? I noticed that some sites on the net suggest that you should modify your activity (no heavy lifting, sex etc). Has anyone been told that? I wonder if folks only get told that if they've had bleeding? I see my doc on Tuesday will be interested to see what he says, as I'm still doing everything as per normal.

Hansie - GL for your scan, it must be pretty soon. I think you're right about feeling bubba more too, I'm sure I'm feeling my bubba girl heaps more than I did with DS, she seems very wriggly - it's lovely. Plus DH could feel her at 18.5 weeks (where DS was at 21.5 weeks and we thought that was early then!).

Black rose - thanks for the good luck wishes
