antenatal classes does dh have to go???

I was wondering the antenatal classes at the hospital, we are doing a 2 hours for 4 weeks and it looks like dh will definitely miss out in one class maybe 2, probably the middle 2 because he is away for work in november. Is this a bad thing should I change them for a different day? I have got the pink kit, should be getting it soon so we'll also be watching that together. thanks for your opions, I can change it for all in one day, which would be a long day but it means he would be there. no more weekly ones left.

I found my DH got more from the antenatal classes than me, cause i had a BellyBelly education.

I could tell him stuff, or give him things to read, but he didn't really take it in until the classes. I guess it depends on how your DH learns - if he'll go through the Pink Kit with you, I wouldn't worry about him missing classes, but if he is more of a classroom learner and needs to have questions answered as he thinks of them, I'd go to the long class.

Having hubby there for me was the best thing he ever done with my first pg!!

He learnt heaps and made sure he knew wat to expect and how to handle things.

Some hospitals have weekend classes.. normally 2 full days.. is this an option?

If it's the first pregnancy or birth they'll be going through...I'd say he should go!!

I would definately say he should go! My DH - although he didnt read barely a thing, thought he knew it all and didnt want to go but he learnt alot from going that he wasnt aware of. We also had a similar situation and chose to do 2 days instead of weekly and yes it was alot of information but you do learn alot and you tend to talk about and process things that you havent thought of.

I think it is a good idea for him to go, even just from the point of becoming familiar with the hospital and the surrounding areas. Going a few times gets you used to the parking, the food places that are in the area, where the men's toilets are, where the lifts are, even where the are ATM's located. Also he might remember something from a class that you forget, or ask something useful that you don't even think of.

My hubby went and he seemed to get alot out of it. I think it was good for us BOTH to go together to see the facilities at the hospital, and to meet some other people with babies due the same time as us. Also gave him the opportunity to ask the midwives things that he wanted to know and for him to listen to them talk about things he could do for me (massage and things like that). It was also nice for him to meet some other first time dads-to-be, and we saw some of our class buddies at hospital after Claire was born, so that was nice too.

My Dh missed the first 2 of mine as he was overseas for work - there were 5 altogether - and wouldn't you know he missed the 2 that were on labour and delivery LOL. Anyway, it didn't seem to matter much. He was able to ask any questions he had at the classes he came to and I got him to read the "role of the birth partner" section in my pregnancy books.
He is really really queezy and hates talking about blood, birth, anything medically related but when it came down to it, he did an awesome job.

It really just depends on how your DH feels about his ability to cope but I don't think it made any difference that my DH missed 2 classes. I did take my Mum to those 2 though - I didn't want to be the only one there without a partner!

thanks for all the replys guys! yeah i think I'll wait and see guess if he is missing only one class probably not too bad but if its two then i will book the long all day workshop. thanks so much guys gives me a better idea!
