OMG I haven't felt car sick since I was about 8yrs old and now I just can not stand being the passenger in a car (even for a 2min trip) as I start to feel car sick !
Is this some weird pregnancy symptom? I have never had a problem being a passenger before so am hoping that this is just a short term thing.
Yep, I think my m/s started after a car trip. I got some of those seasickness bands and wore them all day for my m/s. I then ended up having to buy a set for DD to wear in the car as well.
had the problem in all of my pregnancies, last time I even got car sick whilst driving. As my job as an occupational therapist involved driving to do home visits at patients homes this wasn't good, especially if the first thing I asked when I got there was if I could use their loo to throw up!!!
It got better towards the end of the pregnancy.
Hope you feel better soon,
Thanks girls for the advice. Just when m morning sickness stops then I get something else that makes me feel sick! I think DP is getting used to me saying "I feel sick"!
I have always got carsick, my whole life. there's a pressure point behind your belly button which helps to stop it, and maybe bubs is pushing it the wrong way?!? (No medical foundation in this suggestion at all!)
Ginger really helps me with carsickness - on the way down to our wedding, a 7 hour drive, I ate about a cup of Japanese pickled ginger! Also, ginger beer helps. Anything ginger, really! I don't know if Vicks VapoRub is pregnancy safe, but I've heard that some people rub that around their belly button and that helps. What I used to sometimes do is put a bandaid over my belly button so it sucks in, and it makes a difference (yes, everyone pays me out and says it's a placebo, but a lot of people also say you grow out of carsickness, and at 27 I obviously haven't!) but that wouldn't work if you have an outie, and I don't know about a pg belly!
Oh yep, on and off during this and my pregnancy I would get it terribly. Especially in the first timester when I had m/s too but even later on.
I always have a large pack of peppermints in the car just for those occasions. They seem to ease it a little otherwise if I drive that makes it better too! Good luck.
I got car sick when I was little but forgot about it when a driver. But with each child my motion sickness has gotten worse. I remember with #1 going to the cinema and having to run out (missed the best part of Gladiator!)
Then after #2 I still had the same problem and couldn't go on any show rides anymore!!
I dread to think what i'll be like after this one, i'll be lucky if I can walk without making myself sick
if you feel nausea travelling in a car will make it worse , i can finally get in a car now without having to eat a neverending supply of mints or pullover every two seconds. hope you get over it soon.
Yep i have always got carsick/seasick/trainsick ahhh everything sick, not fun and you are meant to grow out of it!
Sometimes i am alright as a passenger and othertimes not, pretty good as long as i am driving though. Poor DS gets it now as well and i just always make sure i give him something before we leave.
Apparently it has something to do with your eyes and ears not balancing out together that causes it. Makes sense to me anyway cause i am alright in a boat if we are moving but as soon as it stops...look out!
I am bad on a boat at the best of times! Even have turned down going on a cruise because of it! I havent been car sick since I was little but it seems to be the pregnancy that has bought it on again. not great when I am planning a road trip to Qld with DP at Christmas time and i will be 30weeks pregnant!
Will take some ginger and try and drive as much as I can. Lots of breaks as well! I just hope it doesnt conitinue after I am pregnant!
