Question Anyone else waking at 3am every night?

When I just refreshed the "new posts", I noticed that I am the only person posting at this time! (its now 3.45am).....just wondered if anyone else in second trimester is experiencing what I am where you wake at around 3am each day and are wide awake for about an hour. Is this a normal hormonal part of pregnancy or what?? Baby isn't particularly active at this time (well she just kicked then so I guess she is at least wakeful), but is more active in the evening around 9pm.

I always wake up at 4am on the dot to go to the toilet, but I can go straight back to sleep. I'm guessing it's your hormones waking you up. Hope you get a better night's sleep soon!

    Hey Berry,

I don't think I've slept through the night since very early pg. And absolutely, once I'm awake, I usually really awake, for at least an hour, sometimes more like 2. Or I manage to sleep till about 4.30, then that's it, cos I get up at 6 for work anyway....

Unfortunately, I only have sympathy for you, because nothing I've tried seems to get me through the night, so I have no advice or handy hints. I'm at the point where I've just resigned myself to the situation, and use the time to enjoy being in bed (cos it's the comfiest place in the world), and quite often to just enjoy the kicks & movements I'm often getting at that time - a bit of pre-birth bonding! And sometimes I give DP a bit of a cuddle, but not often cos I'd rather he stayed asleep, it's not fair to wake him just cos I'm up.

I sleep from about 9.30pm til 12.30am and im awake until 5.30am when I have to get up to go to work. I pretty much toss and turn (I probably drift off to sleep for about 15mins in an hour). Its not fun. My first pregnancy was the same and got worse as my due date approached. OB tells me its my body getting ready to be up at all hours of the night with the baby unfortunately my body has forgotten that I already have a child to tend to so this isnt really working out.

I have been waking up at 3am as well, but I go back to bed and listen to music or lie there and day dream as it is too cold to be up and about.

    Hi Berry,

I was doing exactly what you were doing for a while but now I get so much broken sleep because I go to the toilet a zillion (well, what feels like it) a night. I didn't find anything that would make me go back to sleep and it was really frustrating!

Hope it stops for you soon!!

Yep all very normal to be up and about at all hours! I was up at 1.50 and then again at 3.30 - but the awake time in between is getting less now as im more tired than i was in the second tri!

when i was in the 2nd trimester, i was awake at 3:00am on the dot! Everynight. Now that edd is getting closer I'm up at least once an hour, if not to go to the toilet, its just coz I'm thirsty. It can be one or the other, or both! Frustrating, but like someone said, its too cold to be up and about at any hour of the night, so I get back into bed and snuggle up to dh, coz he always seems to be warm!

Yep, I'm waking at 2.30am almost every morning and staying awake for about 2 hours. I try not to wake DH but sometimes I get lonely - he he he.

I am also waking up - constantly!! I get up on the hour three seperate times to go to the toilet and then im awake from 3am for about an hour or so! Very annoying! I try to use a relaxation breathing technique that used to work when i had to do really early starts for work (to get me to sleep earlier at night) but this isnt working! and the toilet trips, leg cramps, expanding belly and a dog who insits sleeping right between DH and I isn't helping! hehehe. Oh well... I guess its all preperation!

    Hi all

I am so pleased to hear that I am not the only one going through this. I am surviving on about 4 hours not continuous sleep. Unfortunately for me I have developed a bit of an "anxiety" thing out of it, and find it hard to accept that I am not tired. Last night I dozed on the couch so as not to disturb DH who can't cope with less than 9 hours sleep.

I too believe that it is the body's way of preparing me for parenthood so it is just something that I will have to put up with.

So try and sleep when we can......

actually i have been going through this since the very beginning of my pregnancy! It started about 5-6 3weeks..I would get really tired and go to bed around 9 and wake up between 1 and 3 pretty much every night and not be able to go back to sleep for an hour or 2. I think its normal

I go thru this every pregnancy...around the same stage too - 25-27 weeks. I can take up to 2 hours just to fall asleep at night....then i wake up at 2am, 3am....etc eetc. I find my mind really active...like im compiling a shopping list in my head or im organising what to do for my birthday in 9 months time - LOL. Really stoooooopid stuff.

I think i jinxed myself. I read these posts yesterday lunch and thought to myself, "hmm i must be lucky, i've had no sleeping problems". This morning I woke up at 2:50am and just lied there, thinking. Its now 4:20am and i've realised that the washing and ironing can't be put off any longer. So I'm currently doing a load of washing, once thats done.. ironing.
I hope i can sleep tomorrow!

I am also waking at exactly 4am for the nightly toilet trip and for baby to have a little kick around. Trouble is that if I don't get back to sleep by half past 4 then my rooster keeps me awake for the rest of the morning until I have to get up and go to work. he he;-)

I wake up every hour at least... and it usually takes me half an hour to fall asleep again! Although, i've started a new routine so that i don't wake so much during the night, i wake up early and stay active all day and go to bed late - as hard as it is to actually keep my eyes open, i end up only waking once through the night! Which is great!

I wake up at least once, go to the loo, and then it takes like an hour or 2 to get back to sleep. Saturday I was lucky woke up at 4.30, still awake at 5.30 DH had to work and needed to leave at 6.10, so at 5.30 I got up and made him a bacon and chees muffin and then woke him up to have his shower and eat his breakfast before he had to leave. I then got back into bed, watched telly for a few minutes and fell blisfully back to sleep. I woke again at 9.30 when he got home from working.
