Just wondering, when you had your 20 week scan did the sonographer predict the weight of your Bub? And if you have had them already was it an accurate prediction? Ive been told to expect a 9lb Spawn if he comes on time so Im getting a bit worried.
Thanks in advance
Um no, 20 weeks I personally think is way too early to determine the size of bubz!
One of my friends who only has 5 weeks to go is FREAKING herself out because she thinks she's going to have a HUUUGE baby. The Dr said she can expect a baby between 7-9lb (ummm thats a HUUUUGE gap!!!) but she also thinks if she has a small baby it will be less painful .. I shouldnt laugh but she makes me laugh (we've known each other for almost 20 years so i CAN laugh at her!)
I was told to expect a 8 1/2 pounder and she ended up being 9.1 I had an awesome 4 hr labour with my DD!
My scans estimated bubs weight and size at each scan but not in advance. Scans can be out by 2lb as well, so I wouldnt go panicking just yet. A 9lb bubba also doesnt mean you are gonna be torn to no end, much smaller babies can do that and much larger ones may not. My DD was no where near 9lb and I had everytjing but a 4th degree tear. A huge variation of things cause tearing. Dont worry too much about it, hun
I was told at my 20 week scan with DS1 that he was well above 'normal' 20 week size and he would be well over 10lb by 40 weeks. In the end he was 6lb 15oz at 38 weeks. I did have PE though, which probably reduced his growth towards the end. DS2 was big at his 20 weeks scan too, but was only 7lb 8oz at 40 weeks.
I wouldn't worry at this point. My ob told me after I was told I would be having a giant baby that he hears that all the time and it is rarely the case. The estimates are based on length of bones at 20 weeks, so could just be saying you will have a really tall baby, not necessarily fat or with a giant head (the bit you really need to worry about ).
I never had anyone try to predict weight etc, my last scan before birth was 20 weeks and they did tell me he was a big boy, more long than anything.. The midwives at all my check ups all said 'Er, he's not a small baby' and DS was born 8lbs 12oz at 39+4. No tearing at all, just a graze from him coming out with his fist against his face.. That didn't tickle though!! And I am not a large framed girl, was 54kgs at 167cms tall when I fell pregnant.. Best wishes, aside from everything, all we really all want is a healthy bub
I had to have a scan after a fall at 35 weeks recently & they said at the time of the scan he was approx. 2.5kg or 6lbs.
Friend of mine had herself all freaked out with her last bub coz they told her she was going to be BIG. Got induced 3 weeks early & found out she would've had a normal sized bub anyway.
Def not at 20 weeks, I was told he was measuring a coupe of days bigger.
At full term I was still tiny, all my MW would say was 'he will be a good size', pffft she had no idea.
I had one at 37 weeks. They predicted he'd be 6 pound something and said it can go a pound either way. Ds ended up being 8lb7.5oz and he was nine days late.
I had a 34 week scan where they predicted a big baby around 4kg (9lb). Ob disagreed and thought it would be closer to 8lb, Bubs was 9lb2oz... But no prediction at 20 weeks that's for sure, he always measured to dates.
I have only had one prediction and that was for my last bub and he was predicted to be 720g at 23+4 weeks and was 920g when born at 25 weeks...so that doesn't really help sorry
I was told baby had slight dolichocephaly, meaning it had a slightly elongated head (from top to bottom) - at the 18 week scan.
At the 32 week scan, nothing was mentioned, but I was told I was having a small baby. They hinted at weight and stature being small.
She was 8lb 5oz (3770g) and 52cm long - so not a small baby.
Hmmm, my SIL was always being freaked out about how big her baby would be, even at 20 weeks she was told he was 'above average'. At 34 weeks they told her they were worried that bub was too big to come out naturally (TOTALLY freaked her out). Anyhoo, bub ended up being born 4 weeks early and only weighed 2.6 kg. He was really long though!
With my DS I was also always told bub was 'above' average. I had him at 38 weeks and he was already 3.5 kg, so yes he was big.
