    Question cold/virus

I've come down with a bad cold over the last two days. Have been to see GP who says it's just a cold/viral infection and that it shouldn't have any affect on bub. I haven't had any fevers (that I've noticed anyway) and my temperature and bp were fine when she checked them.

I just can't help but worry that my bubble is OK in there.

Anyone else had a cold or been sick - what did your GP/Ob say? (can't get hold of my ob, he's away for 2 days. handy...)

    Hey Willow

I am at home with a slight flu today. Got a sore throat yesterday and decided its best to just rest at home and hope it doesnt get any worse. I havent been to my doctor but I can imagine him saying that everything would be ok with my baby and that I cant really take anything for it.

Are you able to maybe call the midwives at your hospital since you cant get hold of your ob?

Veronica, I was thinking of doing that but I haven't officially booked into the hospital yet, my appt isn't till July. Not sure if that matters?

Everything I've read on the net says the same thing, that it won't affect bub, but to keep an eye out for high fevers.

I dont think that it would hurt if you did call up.If you have an appointment in July all your info would be there. I would just call in and say that you havent been to your first appt yet and I am sure that they would be happy to help you

Thanks for saying to watch out for high fevers. I dont have a temperature at the mo but will watch out if I get worse.

Hi Willow - I just got over a nasty two week viral infection (so my dr called it), my temperature did rise and I got checked out, but bub and me were just fine. I read up and found that it shouldn't affect the baby at all. I got a couple of nasty colds last pregnancy and DS turned out fine so I'm not too worried. The only annoying thing is I couldn't take anything to treat the symptoms and just had to ride through it.

I think your bub will be just fine, hope you feel better soon!

    Don't stress you'll be ok!
Colds and viral infections are actually quite common during pregnancy because the body suppresses the immune system a bit while you're pregnant.
When I was 20 weeks pregnant with Emily I had a shocking cold/flu with temperatures, chills, snot, cough - the works. I then ended up with a chest infection... Put me off work for two weeks. She was fine throughout the whole thing.
I also had something similar when pregnant with Toby but not as bad. He too was fine. They're pretty tough and well protected in there. Cold and flu viruses are very common in the environment and our bodies know how to deal with them, bubs will be fine

    Hi Willow
Your cold will have no effect on your baby. Try not to worry.

You guys are just the best! Thank you so much. I know I'm a massive worry wart, but after m/c and then going through IVF it can be stressful at times. It's just weird being this sick without thinking the little one might not be feeling great either! I guess our bodies are designed to protect them though.

Feeling a lot better this afternoon as I've been having lots of movement, so I'm sure s/he's just fine in there.

Now i just have to get better. Off to eat some chicken soup....

Veronica - I hope you're feeling better soon too!

Rae, I just posted in your thread too - I hope you're feeling better too! Talk about great timing hey?

It's just the pits. I'm just glad that it's not something that will affect bub, that's the main thing.
