    Question Confusion over movement

    Hi there,

After reading quite a few different threads over the past few weeks I am a bit confused! Some say it's natural to not feel movements till 22 weeks which is when I felt the first felt real flutters but others say that if you haven't felt it move for 2 days then ring the hospital straight away.

Even though I have felt the occasional flutter its' definately not consistent at the moment - should I be worried? I thought it took time for that to happen? Is there a differenceif you are small or big (in size normally I mean). I'm normally a size 12-14 - bout a 14-16 now. Should that make a difference?

No I don't think you should be unduly worried. I can still go a long time in between feeling movements, doesn't mean they aren't happening though.

Much later I would still worry when I hadn't felt many movements but that would be because there wasn't much room left in there. I used a kick chart in my first pregnancy towards the end and was surprised by how many movements actually happened, that I wold normally have missed.

I have only been feeling "definate" movements the past 2 weeks, but can sometimes be irregular like feeling them in the moning, going all the rest of the day without feeling some, and then heaps in the space of an hour at night and then none again. When i panick myself i always go to what i now call my 'reassuring chair'. When ever i sit on my chair in the study at the computer i feel kicks within 20mins. Dont know what it is about the chair - but its become a favourite of mine lately!!

I am a size 16-18 and thought that this was the reason i wasnt feeling them any earlier than 20wks as i presumed that there was more room and more 'movement detection barriers: i.e fat that were making things difficult. DH still hasnt been able to feel them!

When its early on like this u cant feel them all the time. Its when u reach your 3rd tri u should keep an eye on it a little more. By the time u get to 30 to 32 weeks u will know somethings there alright (2am in the morning, when ur trying to go to sleep at night etc etc).

Don't worry. Do you know where your placenta is? That can make a big difference. And having a bit more belly fat can also cushion movements (not saying that that is the case with you...)
I still don't feel nearly as many movements as my midwife can detect with the doppler. Sometimes Dh puts his ear on my belly and then reports that he's just been kicked in the head, but I felt nothing. I find that I can feel them better if I put my hand on my belly. Strangely enough, I can feel them stronger in my hand than in my belly.
    Good luck

    Hi there!

I felt movements at about 18weeks, but they were few and far in between. I didnt relly get constant movements unti about 27weeks... adn now they just dont stop!!!

I am bigger than you, adn although I have extra 'belly fat', I don't think that has anything to do with what you feel from the inside! Feeling with your hand may be a different story.

I woudlnt stress out too much, especially if this is your first pregnancy, as you won't really know what to look for when trying to feel bubs move. If you get at all woried, call ur hosp or midwife. But I wouldn't expect huge, constant movement till about 26 weeks onwards. Then again, everyone is different!

Hope you have a H&H pregnancy

    Hi,

As the others said first where is the placenta. I know that when I had my scan at 19 weeks, I was in aww of this little human, because I could hardly ever feel it. Now I'm a t 30 weeks and i don't think I get as much movement as others but it's really starting to get strong. Now it's more turning and squirming.

Also if you are ever worried, a really cold drink and a good lie down can get the little ones going crazy. But don't forget the more room bubs has the less you will feel actual kicks and you may be more likley to feel bubbles.
