    Constipation TMI

Yes it totally sucks! I've only been going once a week for over a month and the volume is not even worth going at all! But I'm now getting totally stressed about it and I'm freaking out.

I've added extra fruit to my diet (I had been slack) at least two kiwi fruit a day and a pear. I was trying pear juice which worked a while. I'm just so bloated and uncomfortable.

Years of eating disorder gave me terrible bowel issues but when pg with DS I was going twice a day! I thought of was the best thing ever for my bowel lol. This pg can not be further from the truth now

Last night I made a batch of lentil and veg soup to have this week for lunch and I'm going to get some prunes today. But will I over do it? I've heard you can do the opposite! My ob said to have Metamucil and lots of water. I'm yet to try this. Should I do this first? The chemist gave me benefibre before I contacted my ob.

Been up since 4am with bloating! And now I have Roids! Oh the joys.

This is more of a cent than anything.

Thank you I've got some benefibre was was a little worried that will block me up with the added natural fibre I'm now having in fruit. My ob said 8 metimucial capsules a day and lots of water but I'm scared this will do the same?

focus on the water - you may be surprised how much you need to flush all the fibre thru! Also see if you can go for a gentle stroll in the mornings - it will help!.

Dried apricots are suppose to work really well too if you're not a huge fan of prunes. 3-4 or so a day.

if you take metamucil or any of the fibre suppliments and don't drink water it does the oppisite and is worse for you. you have to drink bucket loads of water! because they work by absorbing water, so if there isn't any to absorb it just clogs you.

Oh I hear ya! Constipation is probably my worse ailment. My midwife suggested Fibre Gel? She said you can get it over the counter at the chemist, you rub it on your belly and it helps it along but is not a laxative.

ETA I haven't actually bought it yet, so those details can be shady

Drink lots and lots of water. Add a spoonful of apple cider vinegar and/or lemon juice. Get on to some good probiotics.

This doesnt sound fun, but look at DIY enemas. Once fecal matter has been stuck in the system for over 36 hours, the toxins start leaking back into the body. The best way to get it out is via enema. Adding probiotic to the water can help there too.

You can put coconut oil on the 'roids. Just buy at a health food shop.

Make up some stock using organic bones (chicken or beef or whatever you prefer). Cook in filtered water with some apple cider vinegar and a few herbs/ peppercorns. Either cook on stove for 3-4 hours or in slow cooker for 12-24 hours. Break the bones down to get the marrow out. Either drink as is, or turn into soup. This is one of the best ways to heal the gut and promote good bacteria. Drink lots every day.

Eat other gut friendly foods like natural yoghurt, kefir, organic sauerkraut.

Stay away from refined grains and sugars.

I had the same thing for the first 20 or so weeks of this preg and it was awful. I actually did a thread looking for advice and got some great advice – https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...i-ahem-169393/

I found Benefibre was the only thing that worked for me. I think I was having it 3 or 4 times a day, but it got it moving and allowed me to be comfortable. HTH

Oh I hear ya hun. I tend to 'suffer' or be constipated on a regular basis before pregnancy so I've had to really up my efforts during pregnancy. My naturopath has me taking slippery elm (powder) and phsyilium husk (powder form) every morning. I add a teaspoon of each to a glass of water or juice and drink, and then drink a glass of plain water straight after. And the other girls are right, drink loads of water! it helps!
PS: the slippery elm powder makes what your drinking look like gloopy mud! lol.

The best natural way I relieved constipation was to eat a kiwi fruit, skin and all every day. It worked really well. I chopped it up and ate like any chopped fruit.
Popcorn is another one that works.

Benefibre all the way!! I use it most days anyway (I've suffered with IBS all my life) but I really needed it during both my pregnancies. I find it works heaps better than Metamucil. And yes, loads of water!

    Pear juice
    Dried Apricots
Cut back on gluten products (ie. bread)
Squeeze juice of half a lemon into warm water and drink before eating. Helps aid digestion.
