QueenMab - I rub Vicks all over chest & use Fess saline nasal spray before I go to bed. It helps with the sleeping thing... (although by the morning my nose is blocked again!)
I have had some sort of congestion from conception. Most of the time it hasn't bothered me too much as I quite often get congested anyway. However when I got a cold it was murder, because I couldn't take anything!!
To get some sleep prop yourself up with some pillows so that your head is a little higher than your chest. It will help enormously.
If it does get bad, stay away from ice cream and chocolate, as they will make the congestion worse.
QueenMab, I get worse heartburn, because when I'm asleep I swallow the mucous that is forming in my throat (tmi). It fills up my squished little tummy and causes some re-flux. It also makes me not very hungry at all.
One natural method you can use is to physically wash your nose out with a saline solution. Hot water, salt - let the water cool to luke warm temp. There is a special way of doing it though, so you don't end up swallowing all the water. It basically cleans out your sinuses.
I actually saw this on Oprah recently on an episode with Dr Oz, so checking out her website, may make it a little clearer.

I made and appt. to see my dr tomorow about extreme constant headaches and eye pain, I had no idea it could be sinus as i've never had it before but I don't have a blocked nose I just have these awful eye headaches and mild nose congestion. At first I thought it had something to do with the central heating because I feel so dried out, perhaps this makes it worse so today I've turned it off (OMG It's cold!).
Hi! I think I have sinitus...I have felt stuffy, like onthe verge of a cold for months. I am 13 weeks now. I am getting on average 3 headache/migraines weekly......ARGGG! Well I never had any sickness, only slight nausea here and there so I guess I can't get off 100%.
There is a product called "Fess" it is a saline spary...totally safe during pregnancy. I have used it in the past when flying or colds, flu etc. Double check with doc first, but very safe.
I have a blocked nose every day. It doesnt last all day but i get it on and off. Its normal. If you are severely blocked see a dr but if its manageable you know its the bubs.
