I was at a party last night and was wearing knee high boots with about a 7cm heel which are always very comfortable and we were standing on grass which was even better. Around the 2 hour mark I started to feel faint and dizzy so I sat down and recovered pretty quickly within about a minute or so. This happened twice but with no other ill effects. Has anyone had this happen to them?
I suppose I should steer away from wearing heeled shoes if I'm going to be standing for a long time....duuuuh.
I have had this and I would never even contemplate a 7cm high heel! It's common in pregnancy - in the old days it was one of the "sure signs" of a baby coming.
Yep, this has definately happened to me a few times. I actually passed out in Big W at about 14 weeks! Luckily there was a seat right there which I made it to before the lights went out!
My ob told me to make sure I had plenty of fluids because dehydration can cause it (the day it happened to me it was quite early in the morning and i hadn't had anything to drink).
Postural Hypotensions (where your bp is low - or drops when you go from a sitting/laying to standing position) - check with your Dr that your Blood Pressure is ok.
You might need to take the transition a little slower.
Low blood sugar - had you eaten regularly prior to this happening ... perhaps keep some barley sugar in your bag just in case
Dehydration - keep your fluids up so you dont get dehydrated and run down!
Hmmm, thanks girls...quite a bit of food for thought there...I had a few items to nibble on but not enough to call a meal, no I hadn't consumed my usual 2 litres of water for the day and my blood pressure is near perfect. I think dehydration and low blood sugar probably had quite a bit to do with it...and at 178cm tall, WHY was I even wearing those boots??? No sense...ugggh.
Oh yeah - I'm with you! My BP is always a bit low. Just this last week I have been quite dizzy a few times....then at the hairdresser I actually fainted Was out cold on the floor for a while - SO embarassing!
So I say - if you feel that way - sit down with your head between your legs - get that blood back to where it needs to be before your body forces you too!!
BTW - Deb - is it totally an old wives tale that feeling faint is a 'sure sign' that the baby is coming, or is there actually some credit in it? You've made me very curious.
I'll be sure to mention my BP when I go to see the obstetrician on the 25th. I was feeling a little faint earlier after only having had 2 pieces of toast and a yogurt this morning. I've had something to eat now and feel much better. I guess I have to snack constantly!
