    Question Fetal Doppler

    Hi All

I have just rented a Fetal Doppler for a month and was wondering if anyone else has used these and how you would rate them. I did it mainly because DH is in the service and has missed two scans and is looking to miss the next because of work. I though it might help him feel closer to the baby.

    Hi Macca
Just a quick comment. Just be aware that these things can be scary. Sometimes you may not be able to find your baby's heartbeat and think that there is something wrong. Usually this is because your baby has changed position. Have a chat with your midwife and get her to show you how to use one and what the different sounds are.

I strongly second Alan's comment. I personally think they can be disastrous and have seen a number of fraught women who cannot find a heartbeat. Even at 20 weeks those little babies can take a time to be picked up on the doppler. So, please please be aware of that when you use it.

I have one and love it!!! I have heard bubs heartbeat a few times now...I agree with the girls comments above, dont rely on it too much though, because some days you may not be able to pick up the baby if its changed position etc...but every now and again is great! Especially if your DH isnt around all of the time!!

    Have fun!!

I think that's a great idea, if your husband has missed the other scans! How special.
I guess just keep in mind what the others have said about difficulty in finding a heartbeat sometimes, even midwives who listen to heartbeats all the time have trouble finding a heartbeat sometimes, so chances are you'll come across that problem and now you'll know not to freak out! Have fun with it.

I also have one and its great!

But definately don't get too worried if you can't find the heart beat - The little buggers can be hard to find sometimes They really do wriggle around a lot!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I had been told about how hard it could be to find the heartbeat but thought it might be worth it anyway. I think i will take your advice Alan and take it along with me when I see my midwife next week. Thanks again all.
