    Help me stop eating sugar!!!

All I want to eat is chocolate and sweet things! Its driving me nuts. I think its because I'm tired and therefore looking for a 'lift'.

What can I eat that will give me a sweet fix but its not full of total crap?? Surely there has to be home-made slices/cakes etc I can make that are kinda healthy??

    Any ideas are welcomed!

Sorry to break it to you but there is no such thing as a healthy slice or cake!! The best way to consume sugar is in it's natural state, in fruit.

I hear your pain though. When pg I fell into a terrible energy slump and was on a constant sugar roller coaster. It is a terrible self perpetuating cycle and fruit just didn't cut it. Since my birth, it kept going, but I found some great inspiration and answers in the book 'Sweet Poison' which has helped me give up Sugar. Fruit is plenty sweet now that I don't eat the processed stuff.

I recommend looking for the book. You could also have a chat to a Chinese doctor or a natural therapist to help you kick the sugar habit. They can have great gentle ways of getting you body back in balance.

BTW, all the best with the HBAC!! I had one last year which was awesome.

ETA: for more practical advice, try also to keep things like nuts around for an energy fix and try to have a glass of water or a banana for a fix before reaching for the chocolate.

So its water and an apple for me shortly! Hope it helps.

When i was pregnant i decided to only eat food that had less than 8g of sugar in it, whenever i wanted something i had to go searching for something i 'could' eat and i think the searching helped too distract me. It was way to easy while at work to go downstairs and pick up a chocolate or similar from the shop below our building, i could do it without thinking! When i added in the search factor it wasn't so easy for me and it was quite easy to stop!

    Good luck!!

Maybe we should be in a reducing sugar intake support group lol. Today I've had 3 pieces of cake and a chocolate muesli bar (and its been a good day) on top of my usual breakfast/lunch.

Thanks for the replies ladies. The fruit does work most times, especially now there is all the nice sweet summer fruits available.

    Mildez-Its hard isn't it? I haven't gone near the scales, I promised myself I wouldn't as I don't think it will help!

I think eating the sweet stuff also can become a habit really quickly!

Yes thats sounds like a good idea. I really don't want to continue to put on a kilo a week for the next 13weeks. Carbs and sugar are my down fall. DH got given several boxes of mars bars, snikkers etc before Christmas (about 100 in each box) and I've been averaging 1-2daily for over a month. Unless I'm pregnant I don't even like chocolate. Its got to stop as its so unhealthy and I know how hard its going to be to chance the habits with a new bub and my sister has just said I'm her bridesmaid this year and I have a good excuse to loose some preg weight once bub arrives

About 2 weeks ago I had massive sugar cravings and had a frozen coke almost every day for a week!
Now I just try and eat more (healthy) breakfast cereal (as in put more in the bowl), to keep me full and past the mid morning sugar craving, and have lesnacks (crackers and cheese dip) on hand in my purse if I am little hungry throughout the day.

I tend to not have much sugar in the house or chocolate, I was never a sugar person before pg --- more of a cheese girl (and geeez i miss the brie!!!)

But I am trying very hard to not go near the frozen coke again, I know all that sugar AND caffeine must be very bad for bubs!

I suppose orange juice has just as much sugar as coke and isn't a very good option either?! Cos I have just thought --- I may have given up the frozen coke but I am having a lot more juice! bad bad!

I used to make a little 'biscuit' bite based on mashed bananas and rolled oats.. No sugar, flour or eggs. I'll see if I can dig up the recipe!

I am a sweet tooth, luckily i have only put on about 1 kilo so far if i really want something sweet i will have a marie biscuit with philli cheese onit - doesn't sound very sweet but does enough to get rid of my cravings and 2 biscuits with philli cheese is still under 100 cal's

Good luck!! I am going to go find the healthy pregnancy forum now
