The last couple of days I have had shocking indigestion (well I think it is anyway!). It doesn't matter what I eat, it can be healthy stuff like fruit and crackers etc, or unhealthy stuff. I end up with awful tummy pains that last for hours and hours.
As I've never had anything like this before I don't really know what to do! I want to go to bed, but I know that sleep is not going to come right now
I find a probiotic (like yakult or something like it) sometimes helps. Also sipping peppermint tea can help your digestion. A gentle walk around the block is good for me too, even tho' mostly I would like to just lie down! Hope your indigestion goes away soon, mine is bad tonight because I ate too much too fast (homemade fried rice!) and so I'm suffering a bit too! Also I find if I drink a few glasses of water slowly that helps to get things moving as well.
There are many things that can help with indigestion, Mylanta, Quickeze, milk, Remmie. You will just have to try a few until you find something that works for you.
Thanks everyone! I've tried the milk and mylanta, they help a little. Quickeze didn't do much. Will try the Rennie too!
I've heard about the tingle method Fletch! Will have to give it a go. It helps that I really like them too........ Sorry to hear about your reflux, it sounds awful. Keep on those FTs!
Thanks MG, I'll have to try soda water too! So far any flavoured fizzy drinks are actually painful to drink ATM, so I've been staying away from them. But soda water may be the way to go!
I find milk works quite well. DH buys this really tasty choc milk and its sooo good.
I also have a pack of mylanta handy all the time and I also find it works well, though I am not so keen on using too much of it so I usually go for the milk first.
I also try not to lie down or do anything energetic too soon after eating otherwise I get it straight away.
Thanks Karina. I think the milk helps, but I'm too scared to have much because I'm a bit lactose intolerant. I can have little bits of milk, but if I had a whole glass the indigestion would be forgotten because my tummy would be so upset! Choc milk sounds oooo good!
One other thin you could try is ½ - 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in a glass of water. It tastes yucky but it can help to reduce the stomach acid.
Ewww Alan... My Nan told me thats what she had to do to get rid of heartburn when she was pregnant... she said it was awful!!!
I guess thats why fruit tingles work so well, because they have sodium bicarbonate in them
Milk has been my #1 guarantee for heartburn/indigestion during this pregnancy.
I had indigestion from 15 weeks through to term and tried a million things. I used bicarb soda also, as my best friends mother told me that is what they used back in the 50s and 60s. I tried eliminating lots of things from my diet to see what was doing it and in the end, about 3 weeks before I delivered, I found it was eating bread and water at the same time as it seemed to mix together and blow up like a sponge in my stomach. So I started eating yeast free bread and not drinking when I ate and it was much better. But what causes it can vary for everyone so maybe see if something in particular is causing it. Also they say to eat your big meal at lunchtime and have a smaller meal in the evening so it has a chance to digest better. It is a horrible thing so I hope you can treat it.
I just came back from my ob's appt and he said (after one month on milk and another on rennie) that it was now time for Zantac (Zantec?).
Also he quizzed me what time we eat, and suggested we have tea around 6-6:30 if we're going to bed at 10:30 - 11.
He suggested if the earlier eating doesn't resolve it, then to have the zantac 1 hr after dinner, and if that doesn't work, to try it with a glass of milk.
