Agree with the magnesium. Supplements can help but there are lots of options so check which one with the pharmacist.
As for the clotting - pregnant women are hypercoaguable (meaning extra clotting) to prevent bleeding to death in labour and delivery. It means our blood clots quicker than normal. With a good fluid intake and physical activity you should be able to minimise any risks of developing a blood clot but if you are worried see your doctor. They can arrange an ultrasound to check the leg if needed. You can have residual calf pain after a strong cramping episode.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Had blood test recently and midwife said everything looks fantastic and no need to go on any extra supplements than what I am on already (pregnancy multivitamin one). I exercise everyday so couldn't possibly do anymore otherwise I'll be pushing myself to far I woke up yesterday morning feeling great and no sign of any tightness in the calves and have had nothing since. Never had a cramp before so could have been a one off thing but only time will tell
Routine blood tests are not always accurate when it come to trace minerals like magnesium. IMO if you are exercising then I would take an extra magnesium supplement. They won't hurt you or bub and you'll prevent the cramps
That was the first cramp I have ever had in my life If I got them regularly I would try a magnesium supp but since It has only happened the once I wont do that just yet, unless I start getting them all the time. I was warned by a friend at work to watch out for the bum cramps later on though!
