    Leg cramps

Last night I woke up with the worst leg cramp. it was the most painful thing I have ever had! It lasted a few minutes then went away but I could feel my calf just wanting to seize up again so I didn't dare try and flex it like I was doing. I got up in the morning and it was still the same and felt like a big tight knot in my calf. Well I thought after walking around most of the day that it would have went away! NOPE! I just got back from my nightly walk and the whole time my calf was feeling like it was going to seize up then not long before getting home my other one felt the same! I have never had them before or anything like this! My calves just honestly feel like they want to spasm at any minute!!

    Any advice?

    Magnesium can help with cramps.
    Bananas, broccoli, almonds too.

I have Chinese Medicine herbs that I think are helping with mine as well.

When you have the actual cramp, try to compress the muscle rather than stretching it. Stretching is great when you dont have cramps, but stretching a cramping muscle can damage it.

I eat all those things all the time apart from Almonds.

Thanks for the adivce! Hoping it doesb't happen tonight, I have never been in so much pain before!

I read on the net that if you get them alot when pregnant that you should get them checked out because it can mean your blood is clotting? So now I am all paranoid because mine wont go away.

Your Calcium and magnesium could be a bit low and you might need a bit of extra help with some supplements. Apparently it happens around the stage you are at now particularly because your baby's bones are developing and therefore taking all that extra calcium from you. Sometimes there's only so much you can get from diet alone, and supplements can help when bub is using up all your stores!

Agree with the magnesium. Supplements can help but there are lots of options so check which one with the pharmacist.

As for the clotting - pregnant women are hypercoaguable (meaning extra clotting) to prevent bleeding to death in labour and delivery. It means our blood clots quicker than normal. With a good fluid intake and physical activity you should be able to minimise any risks of developing a blood clot but if you are worried see your doctor. They can arrange an ultrasound to check the leg if needed. You can have residual calf pain after a strong cramping episode.

Definately magnesium. I have suffered cramps with all three pregnancies and magnesium keeps them away
