Low blood pressure during pregnancy - how is it managed?
I think that's pretty self explanatory...does anyone have unusually low blood pressure as a result of a pregnancy and how is it managed/treated? Mine seems to be getting lower and lower as I go for my checkups.
mine has been around 90/50 for the past few check ups. There's nothing you can really do, but it's not harmful for baby. Just means i sometimes feel a bit faint if i get up too quickly, haven't eaten for a while, or have been standing up for a while. Low BP is better than high BP so that's what i keep telling myself!
I have always had low blood pressure and it seems to stay the same during pregnancy.
Fainting and dizzyness are a problem for me, so try not to stand still for too long, for example, if you are in a queue waiting for something move from side to side to prevent getting dizzy. And if you do feel dizzyness coming on then sit down and put your head down, or start walking and see if that helps. I don't know of any problems to bubs due to low blood pressure, just more of a yucky feeling for mum really!
Mine is usually around 100/60 lately, so not too bad.
Me too. I have low blood pressure normally (and high iron, I just like to be different LOL), and it was worse during pg (the bp not the iron). I had to be very careful about standing up quickly or standing for any period of time. I didn't need any special management though. The worst time was after the epidural when I was in labour with Jack. Epidurals lower bp and even though I was given extra fluid to compensate, I was unable to sit up to push - they raised my head and I instantly felt dizzy and very nauseaous.
I'm the same, and there isn't really much you can do I'm afraid. I even fainted at the hairdressers last week! Not good! I think the best thing is to be aware & as soon as you start to feel light headed, sit or lay down. And don't over do anything.
Oh yeah - the other thing I found was that if I didn't drink enough it would get worse. So keep up your water!
I had Low BP through my whole pregnancy, averaged 90/50 and i am usually normotensive.
I just kept the water up... fluids are very important. THe more you drink, the greater your circulating fluid volume in your body and therefore your blood system - which supports your blood pressure!
Mine seems to get lower and lower at each visit too. I think my last reading was 95/50.
I catch a train to work which means I have to stand (in very crowded conditions) for about 10 minutes and this is enough for me to get dizzy. As it is very crowded, all I can do is bend down and pretend to get something out of my bag. I get very hot, sweaty and starts seeing those dreaded black and white stars but as soon as I bend down, I feel a lot better. As I'm only 18 weeks pregnant, I dont yet look too pregnant so hopefully in a few weeks time, people will start standing up for me. I cant imagine faining in a public place ...........
Today my BP was 100/50...the obstetrician said it will probably be like that until week 24. He did mention that if I was out shopping I might have to cut my trips short. IS HE OUT OF HIS MIND?
It does typically dip second trimester. But mine NEVER came up until after DD was born.
I didnt stop doing anything i usually did. I worked to 37 weeks (and i have a very physical job - on my feet for 8 hours straight lifting, bending etc) and went shopping, out to dinners etc.... I just gauged how i felt and made sure i went to bed early each night .
My bp is always lowish also and my Ob wasn't overly concerned since it was pretty much the same each time I visited him. Thats just me! But I dont feel faintish with it...
i had low bp with savanna and i have the same with this pregnancy. like someone mentioned before you may feel faint or dizzy so keep an eye on that and keep up your fluids.
