I have just returned from a visit to our GP with the news that I have gained 20kgs and I am not even in the third trimester yet (will be tomorrow )! Needless to say, I am stressing a fair bit about it and know I shouldn't be because it may affects bubs.
My OB weighed me a month and a week ago (after much begging and pleading because they don't seem to encourage weight monitoring) and I had gained about 9kgs. This means that I have gained a whopping 11 kilos between then and now - in just over a month!! So either the scales were wonky or this news provides a fairly bleak prediction of what is to come! I do have a massive appetite at the moment and have been eating a fair bit so I know I have gained weight...but I had no idea it was bloody much!!!
Obviously the answer is excersise, but I honestly don't see that as an option for much longer. I have had so many back and pelvic issues in the past month alone that I struggle to just put my shoes on and go shopping!! The doc suggested aqua excercising, but there are no heated pools nearby. I am thinking that I may just have to go for walks for as long as I can bear and see how that goes.
We have always had a no-scale policy in our home because I have had some eating issues in the past and it just results in me obsessing. As for DH, I can just size him up and tell him when he needs to lay off the Pizza shapes...so there really has been no need for one. Needless to say, now we are going scale shopping - this weekend!!
So thanks for reading my whinge above - I really did need to vent as I am not onlyupset, but also feeling really foolish about letting this get out of control and affect me so much Now for the questions:
How much can I expect to gain (even if I eat the bare minimum) in the last trimester. I would really appreciate hearing how much others have gained in the last 3 months of their pregnancy. I am not being nosey (and hopefully you don't think I am), I just really want to get an idea of what is normal and how to try and minimise my gain without doing anything drastic.
How much weight does bubs gain in the last trimester?
Do you have any tips? When you were in this situation, what did you do?
I'd say the scales were off honey. I've seen your pics on FB and you have not gained any weight on the rest of you (only on your belly where you are supposed to be!) so I would say that the scales were off.
My IL's scales weigh out about 4kg - so I am always 4kg lighter on their scales. Love weighing myself there - here - not so much!!!
So yeah, I don't think you have put on 20kg.
I put on 22kg each pregnancy - and thats because I succumed to junk food for most of them because I was just sooo tired.
This one, I'm actually staying the same for the moment anyway - and usually by this time I have gained about 10kg.
I think I usually put on about 5kg in the last trimester.
You might have a lot of fluid too ya know, and that can weigh a bit.
You know, there is a reason why some OB's dont' weigh their patients (I don't get weighed with mine) cos you don't need to be thinking about that.
Exercise if you can - for you though, not for weight loss - eat in moderation.
Mel and squidipa, thanks so much for the info. I do a feel a bit better about things.
Re the scales...unfortunately the GP weighed me at like 12DPO and again now. So I have definitely gained that 20kgs. I think the OB's scale was stuffed! If only it was the other way around!! LOL
Mel, re the FB photos...I also looked at them and thought well I have definitely chubbed up, but by 20kgs?! Really messes with your head, I tell ya!
What I have also been thinking about is how they say that average weight gain is around 20kgs when pregnant. Now I am 6ft tall and big boned to boot. One would think that I should be given a bit more "room to move" that someone who is 5ft, for example? But perhaps I just need to suck it up and stop trying to find excuses hahaha
