Question marginal cord insertion 14 weeks

Today I was at a routine ultrasound and the doctor told me I have marginal cord insertion. He said I was at no greater risk of Vasa previa as anyone else without marginal cord insertion.

I didnt recieve too much more information about this topic and my appointment with my regular ob isnt for another 4 - 5 weeks.

Does anyone know anything more about this condition.

Otherwise everthing is fine with the baby - he is growing well and everything is functioning really well. The doctor has put my due date forward one week because of his size... that is why my ticker out of date.

He said not to worry so I hope its all fine!

have u googled it? i had a grade 4 previa and the day before i had DS they discovered i also had vasa previa. vasa previa is just where one of the blood vessels from the baby usually runs thru the middle of the placenta, but with previa it sits just over the cervix meaning that if u bleed, it is more then likely the baby's blood. i think with cord insertion, its where the umbilical cord is not in the centre.

Thanks for your response! I noticed you had you bub early, was that from a complication from vasa previa? (Sorry for the personal question - dont have to respond)

I googled it - but the results just made me worry more. My last pregnancy ended in an early miscarriage - with nothing related to marginal cord insertion or Vasa Previa. It is this reason that I am a little worried about the rest of the pregnancy. Silly I know. I thought I would try here for a more levelled response.

    Thanks again

yeah it did. i had been spotting from 30 weeks and when i was 34+1 weeks i had a small ante partum hemorrhage. they admitted me to hospital for monitoring hoping to get me to 38 weeks. the next day i had a scan which showed the vasa previa. the next day i had another APH so they decided not to take anymore risks and i had a c section that night. try not to worry. i know its easier said then done but its no good to stress. you can read my birth story for more info if u like

Teresa - it must have been so nice to have your bub in your hands after the trauma I havnt read your birth story yet - but going to soon

Gosh - I started spotting. Just really lightly. Hopefully I can get in to see my ob when she opens - about 4 hours time ... ahhh the waiting. The baby was fine on Friday and my cervix was closed. So hopefully its just something minor!

So my ob wasnt opened on the day I was spotting and on the same day my DH organised a surprise getaway. We almost cancelled (because we were worried about the spotting) ... The spotting went away and we decided later that day to go anyway. The next day I had a little more spotting and now its gone completely. Never had spotting before in pregnancy except when I had a mc. Thankfully its gone now and will see the ob next week

Spotting came back again and went back straight to the ob (glad she was open) ... baby is doing well and my cervix is completely closed - but the placenta is really low down and she said I should expect light spotting over the next 2 months. She said it should correct itself and move up towards the end of the pregnancy. In the mean time Im not allowed to lift anything heavy and not to do any strenuous activities . I also found out one of 3 umbilical cords is separated from the other 2 - I think this doesnt pose any risk though??
