Midwife is thinking of putting me on high risk...

    I had my midwife appointment tonight and she has rung her supervisor if they should re assess my level of care and maybe move me to high risk. Her points are;
    1. Because I have had 2 pre-term labours one at 28w one at 34w both were stopped but I was on bed rest.
    2. Because bubby is on the lower side of "normal" growth

Do you think I am classed as "high risk"?
    Just after some opinions.
    TIA

    No, I don't. Seek a second opinion.

I don't think that you should be high risk.. I would get a second opinion.

I would think it would depend on the reason for your premature labors.

At the same time do you want to risk having carers that aren't comfortable with the what could go wrongs? I would probably accept if they felt they needed to refer you elsewhere.

I'd consider that high risk, though I am not a medical person and dont have the full background.

Being labelled high risk isnt necessarily bad. If there's a common cause to the preterm labour, then I'd want a management plan for that. It doesnt mean you have to agree to anything you're not comfortable with, if that's your concern.

Given that it happened in both prengancies, I can see why they would want to keep a closer eye on you this time.

I agree with L&B, talk to them and see what it will involve and then decide on what you agree on. With my last pregnancy they tried classing me as high risk simply because DD1 was over 4kg. After talking it through with them and refusing their plan all it ended up been was a note in my file.

I am not sure what caused the preterm labours.

I am not worried about being put on high risk, just means more monitoring, although I have 1 more monthly visit then go to fortnightly ones anyway.

I guess I will find out the outcome tomorrow.
    Thanks for the replies x

So how did you go? I would want to know more about what the high risk classification means for you as to why and what management is planned. I agree...more likely to have more appointments and monitoring. I would say probably high risk of pre term labour and bubs size. I'd ask the questions but my circumstances would make me err on the side of caution. I am on weekly at the mo....and I would prefer more! But each to their own.

I was classed as high risk because of pre term labours. It wasn't that bad just extra monitoring which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I was still able to have a VBAC my appointments were fortnightly then weekly for the last few weeks.

Im surprised they didnt add in lots of births as one of your risk factors too, from baby #5 they get quite antsy about you being a "grand multipara" and at risk of bleeding after the birth so they want to put all these plans in place.
If you are happy with what they think then i would just go with the flow, if you aren't then i would ask more questions .
I'm a high risk pregnancy, but i have been from #1 so havent known any different and have been happy with being monitored more closely anyway, its reassuring for me, however i do understand that its not for everyone .

I am down as a grand multi.. I am also moving interstate in the next few weeks, so I will be going through a new hospital, they might have more of an idea on what they want to do. For now I'm left in place of a normal pregnancy. I have an appointment on Tuesday.
