So yesterday I went to have my Anatomy Scan...Dr wanted me to go a tad earlier than 20 wseeks becuase I turned down the 12 week scan, plus I am going away on a camp with CanTeen (the national organisation for young people whose lives have been affected by cancer) so would be away at 20 weeks.
I drank my litre and a half of water, showed up, got dressed in one of those funny three armed gowns, and lay on the table thing.
My sonographer (?) was named Camilla and she was in training, really nice lady. A real improvement on the smug man I had last time!
Anyway
The baby was moving around too much for poor Camilla to get any measurements or anything!
Her supervisor came in to have a go, no luck.
Two more ladies came in to try, no luck again.
Baby was just moving and twisting and kicking so much there was no chance of getting any part of the scan.
After an hour I was told I could go empty my bladder, jump around a bit etc to see if baby would untwist and lie in a more ultra-sound friendly position.
No luck. Hyper baby was moving like nothing else.
After another hour, baby had curled itself up in a tight little ball and whenever he or she was poked with the ultrasound wand thingy would throw out it's arm as if to say "p*ss off!". Hahahaha.
I was given - as a last resort - a cup of hot tea with 2 teaspoons of sugar to try and give baby a sugar high so it would move into a nice position where they could all se it and take the measurments and etc.
Tea didn't work.
After moving around too much to do anything, baby was not about to uncurl itself from it's tight little ball and hence no actual scanning that was meant to be done, was done.
So I am out of pocket $180 but they booked me a new one in a week and a half to try again...and I apparently don't have to pay for the next one, which will be nice!
My belly is bruised all over! Oh well.....no one can control what that little baby is doing, not even me!
Lol I know! The ladies at the scan were saying "I hope this baby is better behaved outside than inside!"
Then when I was drinking my sweet tea in one of the waiting rooms, a mum with 7 children of her own came in. They weren't rude or anything, just being kids, but were very noisy. I thought "maybe I am grateful for one hyperactive child instead of 7." She was doing a pretty good job...probably used to wrangling all 7! :-)
The ultrasound lady said I should have a chocolate bar before the next scan, in an attempt to get baby to move into a good position!
I was a very active baby for my Mum and kicked a hole in her uterus...ended up being born 3 months prem. Let's hope mine doesn't take after me. :-O
Hey Amanda - I had my morphology scan today - 2 hours!!!! We also have a very active Bubs who I think enjoyed teasing the very very patient sonographer! Bubs then curled up into a ball so small she had the opposite problem - it was quite hilarious - but tedious as we hit the 2 hour mark!! However lucky for us we eventually got the pics and measurements we needed!
But I understand completely - I am a bit sore and tender after much poking and prodding!!
that's funny! When I went for my 20week they made me go walk around the city for 45 minutes then come back because Ash was curling up too
Hopefully they get the things they need next time
lol, our scan went for just under 2 hours because he kept moving and my belly was sore for a few days afterwards so I know how you're feeling!! Laying flat on my back for that amount of time made it fun when I was eventually able to get up as I could barely move!
haha yeah I didn't mind They let me pee first! When she said to go to town I was so worried I had to have a full bladder the whole time. Ashton had moved when I got back so all was well, he even graced us with a big open leg spread showing his bits lol
I was asked to go for a walk too.... around the entire hospital grounds. And it didn't work. I wound up on all fours in the ultrasound room rocking back and forwards trying to get her to move out of my pelvis. The doctors all laughed at me, but it worked!!
