    Question Pain in lower tummy?

    Morning Ladies,

I have woken up this morning with a pain in my lower tummy, towards the left hand side. Its mainly when i try to get up or am walking around. Kinda like the baby is putting pressure on something in there, but its quite painful and i feel like i am hunched over trying to walk so that it doesnt hurt.

Has anyone had this? Anyone know what it may be? Should i see the Dr?

I just had my 20 week scan on monday and everything seemed perfect.

    Thank you in advance.

I mentioned similar pains to my doc.. he laughed it off and said it was perfectly normal.. he simply put it down to growning pains.. it is very uncomfortable though, and i sometimes find myself short of breath because of it.. i'm only 24 weeks myself, so hopefully the pains don't continue that far along for you..

i also felt more pain for some reason on my left side. Esp in my hips. Dont know why.
Perhaps bubs is resting or pushing on that side, or you might have stretched some sorta muscle. Support yourself when you get outta bed/car, by using your hands/arms to do move your body, as opposed to you stomach muscles.
Perhaps if not settled back down in a day, ring your obs and ask.
You might like to also try spending some time, 10 - 15min on your hands and knees. It is recommended for helping bubs to move into position later in preg, but, it might also help your bub resposition itself.

I get this is my lower belly on the left hand side too-for the past 3 or 4 weeks. It is worse when I need to go to the toilet and sometimes it is so bad I can't stand up straight!
My midwife said its the ligaments stretching because they are supporting my uterus which is getting bigger than it's ever been now.

Just be careful as a tender area which doesn't go away can mean infection, so always best to let the ob know straight away so they can check. I have had that with one pregnancy and tests were taken (swab) to check for infection (nothing showed up in the tests but my membranes ruptured prematurely with that pregnancy).

Another thing mentioned is the stretching of muscles supporting the uterus. With my current pregnancy I was having some intermittent very mild pain around the top of uterus on one side - only felt it when stretched out in bed or coughed, and it was there on and off for a couple of weeks and then went away altogether. When I described it to the ob they were pretty sure that one was ok.

I get this too. Last night it was really bad and stretching out my stomach was very very sore. It is on my left hand side as well. There is no problem with it at all this morning so I presume that it is all part of it. It is good for getting sympathy out of DH!

Ladies, it sounds like you are describing "round Ligament Pain" which means the ligaments holding your uterus in place are stretching which causes a pulling sensation down in the groin/upper leg area thru into the pelvis. It is worse when you are active and settles down if you slow down. Take heart that it is all normal and just your body stretching to allow bubs to grow. Take it easy when you feel the pains. My best advice is LISTEN to your body. It knows what it is doing. Keep up the fluids and rest when you need to.... Goodluck girls, hope things settle down for you soon!
