Second pregnancy more taxing than first?

Has anyone else found their second pregnancy more taxing than their first?

I'm 24 weeks with my second and my body is already struggling. I had a lot of problems with pelvic, back and groin pain in my first pregnancy along with sciatic pain and Braxton Hicks. All pretty normal really but just painful and a bit debilitating and I'm experiencing all that again but it's a lot more painful earlier this time.

I'm trying to exercise as per usual (just a 30 minute walk as often as I can) but the BH are kicking in early into my walk forcing me to head back home not long after I've left! Grocery shopping is pretty much off limits as pushing the trolley or lugging around a basket results in me struggling to walk later in the day. Rolling over in bed is awful too - that deep groin pain is evil and my hips feel like they're cracking Woe is me!!!

Did anyone else find their body struggled a lot more the second time round? I'm a bit shocked how early my body is putting the skids on this time, please tell me I'm not alone?!

yep my second pregnancy was horrible!! terrible groin and pelvic pain that started at 16weeks and didn't get better until dd2 was nearly 14weeks! I really didn't enjoy my 2nd pregnancy at all and couldn't wait for it to be over and done with

I've felt the aches and pains a lot more with this one too and have been much much tireder - but not sure if that's a second pregnancy thing or a nearly 10 years older than I was with DD thing!

    Oh boy yeah!!
Granted, I thought it was because of having DS, but on top of working full time and having DS (and the physicality of the job I've got with the job) I've honestly been struggling since 12wks.
I hope you're feeling better soon hun xx

i'm still in the first tri & i've put everything so far down to having a toddler to look after as well but i do seem to feel more blah than last time...but maybe i'm imagining it? i know i did go through a phase when PG with DS that i would come home from work & have a nap before dinner but it's just the general lack of motivation that's killing me at the moment.

My second pregnancy was not too bad, but this time round I am falling apart! I hear you on the groin pain rolling over in bed - so sore! I just want to beach up somewhere and hibernate until the baby arrives - which doesn't feel like it will be any time soon

My second pregnancy was awful spd, morning sickness, gestational diabeties and pre term labour. If it had been my first I would never have had a second child! But then my third one was a dream apart from pre term labour again, so you never really know how your body is going to cope.

Yep, me too. My second was more difficult than my first and my third was more difficult than my second. Part of the reason there will not be a fourth! 3 pg in 3yrs will do that to you I suppose!

Yep, my second pregnancy was much harder... I had a toddler to chase after as well and i think that made a difference. My third wasn't that much harder and the other two were older.

With #1 you can rest when you need to, go to bed as early as you want and not have to get up a lot at night, with #2 you often don't get any rest during the day, have to look after a toddler, lift them up all the time, get up to them during the night and get minimal down time. No wonder it's harder! I was so exhausted with DD2 and I was bigger as well so I definitely did find it harder.

YES!!! This pg for me has been far more exhausting, I worked full time last pg but this time I only work 2 days a week and have been having a nap with DS on the days I am home. And yes to more of the ouchy ligament and sciatica pains this time too. Terrible m/s this time until about 18 weeks too. All that aside these little people are worth it, big hugs, it is tough trying to stay happy mummy when you are tired and exhausted mummy.

Glad it's not just me but sorry to hear others feel my pain - literally!! You girls are right though, chasing and lifting a toddler all day does make things worse, for sure. How on earth do you get through til the end?! I know I'll survive but seriously, 15 more weeks of this - and worse - is kind of hard to fathom right now!

The BH are really full on and I'm so annoyed I can't exercise - I love my walks! I might try two 15 minute walks a day and see if that's more managable. If not, aqua looks like my only option. Any other suggestions?

1st trimester i probably felt better second time around, but now my body feels like it is further along than i am. My pelvis and lower back hurt, rolling over or getting up off the floor just looks and feels awkward, my tummy muscles are not holding anything in.

i have started walking again after a couple of weeks break, and pay for it each afternoon. Hoping the body will get used to it again if i just keep going for awhile.

    What about Pilates or Yoga?

Yep - 2nd pg was definitely harder, and the 3rd harder again.

One thing I found invaluable 2nd time round was going to pregnancy pilates classes once a week - I always felt so amazing afterwards!

I haven't been able to do them this time round (DH being busy, us going overseas etc etc) so Ive really missed it, and feel like Im not as fit this time!

    You'll get through it

    You are not alone!

I am actually on my first pregnancy but I read this daily blog everyday and more reader comments are by secondtimers who say that the second has been much worse than the first! It is freaking me out for sure, I want to have two babes but not if its going to be even more rough than the first. the web blog is tiredofbeingpregnant.com and I found it by googling "tired of being pregnant" if that tells you anything.

Google src pregnancy shorts. They're meant to be really good for a lot of the pregnancy pain. I will be getting some for this preg. Reports from people who have used them are very encouraging. Good luck!

This is my second pregnancy and I am 19 weeks (tomorrow) and this is taking its toll on me more so than my first. MUCH worse nausa, my lower back is KILLING me and I am so tired its not funny. I do have a 20mth old DD who goes and goes so I was just blaming my running around after her the cause of my problems lol
