I read somewhere on here that it is best to sleep on your left side (or side) during 2nd tri onwards and as I am a back sleeper thought what the hell it won't hurt ... yeah right I have been alternating sides now for a week and my hips are sooo sore.
I have tried stuffing pillows under them, and under my belly and top leg etc but its getting to the point that I am waking through the night sore and having to switch sides which is just as painful.
My hips feel like my horse has kicked them
In the end last night I propped myself up into a semi sitting postion and slept like that just to get some sleep.
Has anyone else noticed sore hips when sleeping on their side? Any solutions for a pain free sleep???
OMG that was the worst part about pregnancy for me. My hips were killing me by the end! I didn't find a solution. Had to keep waking up and rolling over. I found the pillow between the legs helped a bit.
I also have sore hips ATM & find that sleeping with a body pillow gives some relief. I have one of those long narrow ones. I have it between my knees & also rest my belly on it, so I'm kinda off my hip IYKWIM.
Wrestling with a big pillow makes it harder to turn over during the night though!!
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time, NaeNae
I also have crazy sore hips and if I am not waking up to wee, I am waking up from the pain, so I know what you are going through! Now, at 35 weeks, I get lower back pain if I lie on my back and therefore have to deal with the sore hips associated with lying on my side. I move around sooo much at night that a maternity pillow really isn't an option for me.
What helped for me was to lie on my back (and get some decent sleep) until it really became too uncomfortable (around 30 weeks). I checked with my OB and he said it was no problem and that if my body was having issues with it, it would change position or wake me up. So, if I was you, I would continue sleeping on my back and you will know when you can't anymore...then opt for the horrible "sleeping on your side" solution.
Not particularly helpful advice, I know, but perhaps it can get you a couple more weeks of decent sleep x
I used to have a long body pillow which I would wrap under the belly, and then between the legs. It helped make me comfortable, until I woke up and had to roll over. DH hated it. But I am going to get it down soon to use this time... Sleeping pregnant is not fun... xo
thanks girls I had no idea about this as this stage last year I was in hospital hanging from my ankles I was kinda hoping someone would say "don't worry you'll get so tired and exhausted that you'll just crash anyway" so much for wishful thinking
OK so I will note this down as one of my NEW pregnancy joys.
Thanks so much I will try a few more side but not so side possies and see if that makes a difference.
Jols, I hope your hip soreness is nothing serious, take care hun won't you
hun i feel your pain, the bad news is it only gets worse
maybe scoot off and see an osteo incase your pelvis/hips etc.. are slightly out thi smay give you some relief
i cant suggest much more than that!
ETA my hips are hurting at the moment, much the same as when i was pregnant
