It might improve as you get bigger funnily enough! I had pains around 20-26 week mark with minw but am now comfortably able to swim 1km. It might be to do with where the baby is and where the pressure is in the uterus - but that's just a guess as that's what it feels like IYKWIM.

I swam with DD right up to 41weeks (she was born at 41+4) and swam 1.5km in my last swim. IME the pain is caused by the stomach muscles having to work so much harder to maintain one's desired movement/posture because they're already stretched over the baby.

Things i found made it REALLY bad

    - kicking off the wall when swimming laps - float into the flat swimming position, if you kick off into it you can get a helluva cramp across the bump!

    - doing a lot of flipping about - your core does SO much work in supporting movement in the water, it's the sort of thing many women only notice when they're pregnant (or after a c-section) - everytime you move you engage your core. Try to keep a relatively stable posture (stretching out suddenly is particularly hard work).

    - time - sometimes bubs had just grown a bunch and it hurt more, sometimes it didn't hurt at all. Always take it easy and see how you feel before doing anything strenuous. And if all else fails just bob in the shallows and go to a class or for a walk for exercise.
