I remember hearing that you aren't supposed to have spas when you're pregnant. I couldn't remember why. Does anyone know? Is it because you can't have your temperature up for too long? Or is it the bugs you catch from public spas? We have a spa out the back and I was thinking it'd be nice to be in through summer, but wasn't sure if I should risk it... Anyone remember better than me? (actually, don't think that'd be real hard these days!)
i havent herd that one befor, maybe check it out on google? i bought a masage chair with dd, my mum freaked out and told me not to ever sit in it as i would give her shaken baby befor she was born and disrupt the amnio fulid, the whole purpose of getting it was for my back pain! i checked it out and couldnt find anything about it, but never had any dramas with it. needless to say dd was fine, and ill be using it with this one to!
id say if you cant find info on it, well why not? might help to relax!
It's the temperature. That was the first dead giveaway to my friends here that I was pg - didn't turn up to a spa party that had been my idea when I was 4 weeks. It would be SO nice to get in one! One more thing to look forward to, hey?
I use the Japanese bath house here in melb and that is HOT (40 degrees). I think the biggest risk for me is dizzyness because of the elevated body temp while pg and then the dilation of bloodvessels to cope with the heat. Your baby is very well insulated inside.
I know American sites often say don't use spas, but Japanese women use them all the time while pregnant, and they eat sushi! Do whatever feels right for you.
Thanks guys. I was thinking if it was the heat thing, that'd be fine, because we're planning to use it when it gets hot, so it'll be a cold one. I just wasn't sure.
Sarah: I just LOVE your mum saying you'll give the baby shaken baby before it's born! I wouldn't have even thought of it! Mum's are so funny sometimes. Always looking out for us though - it never stops!! My Mum's always helping me with the pram when we walk together, I keep reminding her I don't need it, I walk a lot myself, but she has to do it while she's there!
Audax: Damn! I hate it when things like that happen! I had a hen's night when I was 10 weeks and had been looking forward to it since my friend got engaged. (It's been a long time since I've had a night out with the girls). It was a fantastic night, but wish I could have had a few drinks. Looking forward to a nice warm spa though, too! Or super hot bath
Arcadia: I never knew that about Japanese pg women. Very interesting. The first thing I wanted to eat when out when I found out I was pg was sushi. Then I felt like a runny egg. Damn cravings for things you're not supposed to have!
Hmm, dilation of bloodvessels happens more in pg? No wonder I get so many migraines during pg! Though, so far haven't had one *knocks on wood* Surprised in that case I don't get them after a nice hot bath...
