    St johns wort during pregnancy

I was talking to a friend last night about how stressed i get about going to the hospital for my appointments (which is quite frequent) and in the few days leading up to it im virtually useless, cant function, cant focus, adgitated ect and she suggested st john wort, i had a look at a bottle this morning and it said to consult your doctor if you're pregnant or lactating.
    Has anyone used it?

It's not recommended in pregnancy. I've just googled and the research is small.

I understand about the anxiety before appointments. I can recommend mediatation/breathing exercises. I'm also thinking of hypnotherapy. I dont know what's in rescue remedy. That may be ok. Otherwise, call Rodney Whyte at MMC for advice re: StJohns Wort.

Do you think you may be depressed? It's better for a depressed pregnant woman to be on anti-depressants than spiralling down. Along with counselling. SIDS & Kids have meetings for those going through a subsequent pregnancy as well.

I really do understand the meltdowns. Sometimes I just had to set time aside to get through them. Then practising denial. I never got on top of the anxiety, I just tried to manage it. As I said, I'm seriously thinking about hypnotherapy next time.

I believe St Johns Wart in early pg is associated with miscarriage. But I'm not sure about later on. I'd check with a dr.

What about rescue remedy? I've been told it's good during labour, so I can't see it is harmful in pg either.

Do you have anyone to take with you to the hospital appts?

St John's Wort can thin the blood which is why preg women (particularly in early pregnancy) shouldn't take it. It's also not a good idea prior to birth or any operations as it can act a little like asprin and cause more bleeding. Rescue Remedy is great and perfect for use during pregnancy.
