When I was pregnant with my DS (second bub) I had that similar feeling to what you describe and thought I had a vaginal prolapse too or a tumour or something! I was stressing out big time! I told my ob and he said it is pretty unlikely that it's a true vaginal prolapse and that they are pretty rare. He had a squiz, and like you say it's not as bad when you lay down. Anyway mine wasn't a prolapse, he said it was just because everything is a bit swollen, it can seem like things are falling out Mine disappeared though, and after the birth everything has gone back to normal!..thankgoodness!
Perhaps yours is something similar?!
