First and foremost - baby is perfectly safe!

The filmtabs are the right stuff - but what it took me a couple of calls to find out is that they will make you feel even worse for a few days.

The cough can linger for a long while but after 5 days on the tabs you will no longer be contagious.

Let anyone you have been in contact with since you first started showing flu symptoms know, especially if they have contact with very young children.

Finally yes, dairy products can make you a bit more phlegmy. Try instead some honey in hot water with a bit of cinnamon. But dont torture yourself - the cough will do that enough!

Oh Stevie! I'm so sorry you've got WC! I'm starting to think that's what I got, but it's come with all the cold/flu like things before it. Sending MAJOR hugs hun

    Hi Stevie,

I just wanted to let you know you're not alone hun. I was diagnosed as having WC last night by my GP and have to have the mouth swab today just to confirm it. My GP isn't giving me anything for it as not only do I have it, but my 3 children have it too My older 2 kids have been off school all week.
I can't remember the last time I had dairy products and I have found that lemonade and cordial make me really phlegmy too. I have been drinking 4.5lts of water a day just to halt the coughing fits more than anything. I am over vomitting anything I eat! My WC seems worst first thing in the morning and late at night. 2 days ago I thought I was going to stop breathing in the middle of a fit as I couldn't get any breath until my DD banged me hard on my back... it was so scary.
Anyway... I hope you're feeling much better real soon

Lisa - I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with WC as well... the irony is we were only discussing this in our belly buddies thread a few weeks ago!

    Hi Stevie,

So sorry to hear about your Whooping Cough and having to take anti-biotics. Some advice from me in my capacity as pharmacist-turned-naturopathic student:
Erythromycin (active ingredient in EES) can really upset your stomach badly so do take them with food. Basically with each meal and before bed with a little snack (so that would be about 4 hours apart). They also wreak havoc with your gut flora and can cause thrush so please get onto the health store or pharmacy and start some probiotics before they make you even more miserable than you're already feeling. The usual recommnedation is to have pro-biotics with food but if you take them at the same time as the EES they'll be useless so best take them with 2 hours between the EES (best morning and evening).
I hope you start feeling better soon - rest is the BEST medicine of all so get plenty of it!
And your baby really is in the best place to be safe from the bug tucked away in your womb
