Worried about baby bump size ......

    hi all

Just wondering....i'm probably being very silly but when does/should my belly start to grow and actually like like a baby bump?? I am nearly 19 weeks, and i do have a belly but i just thought i would be a bit bigger than what i am.

Looking at a few pics, others seem to be a bit rounder and fuller than i am?

Also when did you feel the baby move?? Should be some time soon shouldn't it??

Anyway, just need some advice, but i think some words just to put my mind at rest...

    Thanks.....bugalug

People kept telling my sister that it looked like she had swollowed a pickeled onion. She didn't even have to buy maternity clothes (Except the Bra, My her gozongas were enormous.) Don't even worry. Just think, less strech marks, easier weight loss. Yummy mummy here we come.

With my first i showed very early.. like 13 weeks i was in maternity clothes. Im only just showing now with my second and only just not fitting into maternity at 19 weeks. Some people just show early, some late.
With kicks.. with DS i felt them at 16 weeks 4 days.. think one, ive hardly felt anything. A few niggles here and there but nothing like DS's.

Just shows everyone and every pregnancy is different, no matter if its your first, second or 50th!

    Hey Bugalug

I felt the same way too. I only had a very small bump which grew slowly during my pregnancy and I kept thinking..'shoudn't I be bigger then this??' I went and had an US at 34 weeks because I still felt so small compared to other people, and it showed the chubbiest bubba (with big fat cheeks and all )!! TBH, it was only in the very last few weeks that I really started to grow. Then when DD was born she was a lovely size- 7lbs 7oz.

We all carry differently and babies sit in all different positions...I am sure you have nothing to worry about. 19 weeks is still very early and your baby bump has got a whole lot of growing to do yet!

As for movements, depending on where your placenta is lying you will probably feel some movements very soon.

Go see your ob if you need to chat to someone and are really concerned.

    All the best

Hi Bugalug, don't worry about it too much hun I was the same as you and starting to worry that bub wasn't growing, my stomach has only just started to properly come out. Even my SIL said I was small for how far I am along so I was a bit worried.. but one day it'll no longer look like a beer gut anymore!

I think you have a nice little belly happening there....... I was about the same size as you. Don't worry - I have heard many stories where from about 24 weeks to around 36 weeks you just pop!!

Bugalug, I'm nearly 17wks and my tummy is a little smaller than yours. I think I look like I've eaten too many burgers, not pregnant! I wouldn't worry about the size of your bump at all, esp if it's your first bub. Some people are just lucky to have a neat little tummy. I hope I'm one.

I think actually this week i have just started to pop!! hehe Went for my 19 week u/s today, everything is great and where it should supposed to be!! My little cgerub is a cheeky one and doesn't like performing for the camera - always putting its hands over its faces...

We didnt find out the sex, we are going to wait! As much as we want to find out though...

Anyway thanks for ur replies, and you both are having H & H pregnancies!!

I felt flutters at 12 weeks. I felt taps at 16 weeks. I felt kicks at around 20 weeks.

Everyone's tummy varies so don't stress about it. It will pop out.

I'm 23w 5d and although I feel I've popped out heaps there are still a number of people at work who have not noticed I'm pregnant (I know they'd say something if they knew).

I'm just over 20 weeks and still wearing my normal jeans I think I just look like I've had a few too many muffins lol. My last pregnancy I weighed more and looked pregnant sooner.

I felt this bub moving early, around 15 weeks, but then I've had 3 before. This one I have an anterior placenta, but I have been feeling movement down fairly low and also at the sides. Hubby felt him kick about 2 weeks ago as well

They must know when they're being watched... Josie was asleep the whole time my 19 week scan was being done, I had to jump, jiggle, wriggle, practically do cartwheels to get her to move for the scan!!

I think your belly looks great. I am 26 weeks and only really started popping out at about 21 weeks. It depends on what I am wearing too as to how obvious it is.

Last night I went to the earlybirds class at the hosp. and checked out everyone's bellies. People keep telling me i look small for dates (even though I feel like an elephant!!) but I think I am about average.

Where are you having your baby? Noticed you are from the coast too. I am having mine at Nth Gosford. How far through your course are you? I am a teacher. Only 8 weeks of work left - yay!

Glad you're not worried anymore Bugalug!

Just in case anyone with a small belly needs any encouragement about their belly size, you couldn't tell I was pregnant at 20 weeks with my first. If anyone's really concerned I can PM you a link to the the photo for reassurance - but he was 9.4lb, so really, it just depends on your body shape, your posture, their position...heaps of stuff.

nicca - i'm having the bub at wyong, closer to home for us than gosford. I was so confused about choosing where to go, but i just made my mind up. If anything goes wrong i can easily be transferred to gosford. I'm in my last year of uni !! So looking forward to finishing, but its really hard now having the distraction and excitiement of the baby, but i'll get through. (hopefully)

Apparently from my scan, my placenta is at the front of my uterus, so this may explain why i havn't felt any prominant movement yet. I have felt some tiny little pops, stuff like that, but being my first i could be imagining it!!! lol
