    Default Worried after 18w u/s

I had my m/w appt on Wednesday and got the results back from my 18w u/s and I have to have another one as they said that it was inconclusive.

It said due to the maternal habitus and fetol lie they couldn't get a clear look at the spine and brain etc...

The midwife assured me that everything looks fine, but they just want to get a better look. She said the baby must have been lying the wrong way and due me carrying a few extra kg's they couldn't get a good look.

I keep telling myself that all is ok, but I can't help but worry. I have not come this far for something to go wrong now. I honestley could not handle it. They have asked me to get another u/s before my next appt at 25 weeks so for that reason I know that it isn't anything to worry about otherwise they would have made me get one straight away, but it's just so hard not thinking the worst...

Has anyone else had this happen???

I am no expert but my cousin had the same situation happen recently and like you said - if they had real concerns they would have you back the next week and not wait. She is due to have her 2nd very soon.Others I know that have scans where there were serious concerns were sent to specialist u/s centre immediately.

I hope it all okay for your bub. It can be so worrying.

well my 18 week scan went for over an over and she was really hurting me to get the baby to move out of its position because she couldnt get a clear view of pacific parts of bubs. but Eventually he/she moved and we could get them other wise she told me i would have had to have another appointment. so i beleive its just routine. Remember dont stress cause bubs will stress just be calm and have faith in ur lil one.

My 12week u/s they weren't able to get some measurements because the bub wasn't in the right position and/or moving around too much. I was there for 90 minutes in the end & was busting for over an hour, but they decided to try again at the 18 week u/s after all of that, so I'm pretty sure its normal for them to not be able to get the perfect measurements and want to do so jic. I hope that it is all okay for you two!

Don't worry, when they do the 18 wk ultrasound they need to measure all of bub's bits so they can check everything is on track, so because they couldn't get a clear look that is probably the only reason they want you to come back - they just need to be thorough. I almost had to go back again after my son's ultrasound as he was lying funny but luckily he moved and the sonographer could get all the data he needed.

I am in the same position Mel, at my 13 week u/s they could not get a clear picture as my uterus was tilted back so the baby was far back, I am to go again on the 24th, she said there was absolutely nothing to worry about so I am just trying to be glad I am getting a 2nd scan, as you don't get one here routinely!

Hi Mel, I had one at 18 AND one at 19 weeks and they still couldnt get measurements due to the babies awkward position. I have to go back on Tuesday when I will be almost 26 weeks.

I think everything will be fine.
I had "contaminated" urine during one of my tests and they requested another. That freaked me out thinking what could be wrong. But in the end it was fine. The sample they had was just not a very good one. Same with your ultrasound. Perhaps that was them saying the person doing the Ultrasound was crap.. and didnt know what they were doing? Or maybe it was just bub's napping time. Ive had friends who were told to go for a walk and come back in half an hour, because they couldnt get any measurements.
Youll be right.. just think, you get to see bubs again!

Same thing happened to me.They couldn't see Gemma's spine and face so I was re booked to come back at 30 weeks. Don't panic as my little girl turned out perfect!

I had the exact same thing happen to me. When I had my 18 week scan done they couldn't see Declan's brain properly and I think his spine. The old guy I had tried to imply it was my fault due t me being a little bigger (although he didn't say it in those words) but I had another scan done somewhere else and everything was fine, which I am sure will be in your case too. Sometimes it is the u/s machine they are using aswell as bubs not co-operating properly.

    Good luck.

With my son, at the 18 week ultrasound they couldnt get a proper look of measurment of the head and brain, therefore i had to go back the following week..

He was laying in an awkward position so they couldnt see properly..

Im sure there is nothing to worry about..
