Question Would The Sonographer Tell Me If There Was A Problem At Fetal Morphology Scan?

    Hi,

We had our fetal morphology scan today at 19 weeks and it seemed as though there were no issues regarding bub, (I've been over the measurements on the scans) but would they tell me at the time if there was or do they leave it up to your Ob to discuss with you?

I collected the scans within 20 minutes but there was no report inside. I'm pretty sure the report usually takes longer anyway, because the head radiologist usually has to go over the scans.

My Ob is closed over easter until the 12th, and they hadn't received the results this afternoon. (within 3 hours of scan and then they closed for the day)

We got a report last time (for our last bub last year) so it's making me worry...

We usually go to the same sonographer / radiology place for all our stuff & they have started emailing reports in the last few months.

I think you will probably find this is becoming standard practice.

I'm sure everything is fine try not to stress too much.

Our reports are sent straight to the OB, but as for being told on the spot, I don't know. I would like to think so. Our sonographer never looked concerned at all, and seemed to find all the right bits. *shrug* Sorry - I'm not much help!

I think so. My sonographer gave us a running commentary and told us everything looked great. I'm positive she would have mentioned it if something looked dodgy. Didn't get a report for this baby or for DD. Haven't even been to the ob yet because I had to unexpectedly cancel an appointment and it's two weeks since I had the scan.

They don't really tell you unless you ask or know them well..if there was the likely hood of an issue though you would already have a heads up by your 12 week scan and a high neck measurement< i doubt you would expect any issues if you had a low risk result then.
Don't worry..like you say the head sonographer does the report up to send to your doc and if there was something really wrong they usually have someone else (a superior) come in and scan as well. It'll be fine. (((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))

In general sonographers will not release information directly to you. However if something was urgently amis they would usually get someone in for a 2nd opinion or to talk to you straight away.

    I'm sure everything is fine.

    :yeahthat:

I have checked with my mum about this previously (she's a manager at an imaging place here) and if there seems to be any issues with bub, the sonographer will have someone come in for a 2nd opinion. However they won't necessarily tell you exactly what the problem is. All reports are sent directly to your OB/Dr, and sent urgently if there are any problems.

When we went to our 20 week scan they looked at everything, organs, borns, head, etc and sent us on our way.... when we were there though our sonographer was pulled away to have a look at someones elses ultrasound because they wanted a 2nd opinion. She came back looking down and said not all scans are happy scans.... obviously someone else was getting some bad news. that was at the hospital in NSW (sydney) So Im guessing they'd tell you if something was wrong (especially so you could consider your options asap , being that its the easter long weekend....

Sounds like everything with your bub is FINE Relax and have a happy Easter

when we had our scan for katy we had 2nd dr come in, then we were asked to wait outside then taken into a office and our dr rang to give us the news not sure if this is standard practice but i imagine if something was wrong your ob would have been notified straight away and called you in

    so relax

When I had my scan for Emmanuel a 2nd sonographer was called in and we were told the bad news then and there. I'm sure if nothing was said everything will be ok. All the best.

    Hi and thanks everyone

I really hope they would have told us there and then.

I'm just a little worried about the spine, as it doesn't seem as clear and straight as our DS's did last time at the same scan. I guess I shouldn't be analysing something I know nothing about though...

When I rang the Ob at 2:30 (scan was finished around 12:30) they hadn't received the file yet, so I'm hoping they would have sent through to them earlier if there was a problem...
