    Determining gender from above?

We had out 20w US today and the tech said that she thought bub is a girl () I couldnt see on the monitor very well as it was quite dark but DF could see the techs screen and said she was looking from the top to determine gender rather than looking like bub is sitting on the screen. And she didnt take any photos of the genitals.

Has anyone had thier tech determine gender this way? And if yes do you have any images I can look at?

    Thanks.

I think they do it due to the position of bub. Today we worked our way from feet (highest part of my tummy) down to the head that was sitting so low in my pelvis we couldn't get all the required pics so just doing the rest at my next scan. Whether pointing the wand up or down today, we managed to see bits

I just dont want to get set on it being a girl if she was only saying it cause she couldnt see a penis. If i had seen the pictures myself Id be feeling much more reassured so was hoping to see if DF can have a look at someone elses and tell me if it looked the same.
He said it just looked like a "V" shape between her legs?

I dont want to be wondering for the next 18-20 weeks but dont want unnecessary scans either and since Im low risk it would have to be a 4D scan at a private place. I dont want to pay $200+ just to find out the gender.
Not that it even really matters either way. I just dont want to be wondering and worrying everytime we get given girly stuff if its actually a boy!

From memory the sonographer deducing a girl is not based on the lack of a penis-esque form or even the direction of any bulges but on three white lines which denote the labia etc. I remember seeing that with DD on her scan although so many people thought I was carrying a boy based on my belly position etc that I did doubt it sometimes. Even strangers would stop me in the street and say 'oh, you're having a boy!'

My DD2 was judged a girl by her lack of a penis. There was no clear shot of the three lines. He just said there was clearly no penis where the penis goes so therefore most likely a girl.

Congrats on your little lady calluna! Their never 100% certain anyway but usually boy bits are pretty obvious unless they have their legs crossed or something. I'm sure your tech knew what they were doing
