how much is too much chocolate

    Hi Guys,

At the moment I'm having to have chocolate everyday - mainly just because I feel like it and cause we've got the fundraiser chocolates here at work staring me in the face and calling my name. You know those $2 blocks that you just have to eat until the whole lot is gone? Fruit n Nut.....mmmmmm

Question is: How much chocolate is too much and is it really bad for the baby? Am I going to push my luck with gestational diabetes (although all my tests came back good)? Am i going to produce a hyperactive child by having too much sugar in my diet?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

Never too much IMO...lol. Nah, seriously I think you should be fine and I doubt you'd get GD now. I had a creme brulee from Gloria Jean's EVERY day!! I was ssoooooooo addicted to them. I still eat a little choccy every day now (although I think my waistline, hips, butt and thighs tell me I shouldn't!) and it doesn't seem to be or have affected Oskar. Some may say stop, but for me I'd go stupid and eat too much if I tried to not have any at all.

im interested in this also - i am eating stupid amounts of choccy everyday - like a real addict!!!! Havent had the diabetes test yet this preg as they keep stuffing me around trying to get me to do the 2 hour one - impossible when youve got a 2 and 31/2 yo to entertain for that long. Didn't have any sugar probs for the other 2 though and probably ate just as much choccy. Makes beany girl dance very fast though - hope she doesnt come out with a dairy milk bar in her hand!

I haven't been able to survive without chocolate.. Kit Kats have been the worst for me, I think because they have the wafery biscuit bit in the middle... *drools* oh and chocolate muffins, I think Josie is going to come out looking like a muffin

I guess having a chocolate a day isn't too bad, but I have read that you kinda need to put it in the same boat as caffeineated drinks and try and consume it in some moderation, if at all possible

Some good news for you ladies. A recent study found that pregnant women who ate chocolate 5 times a week throughout their pregnancy were 40% less likely to get pre-eclampsia. They didn't actually say how much chocolate to eat though.

I've been eating chocolate most days throughout this pregnancy - failed the GD test but passed the 2 hour one after fasting (and avoiding chocolate for 24 hours as well). My 34 week ultrasound showed a big growth spurt in between the previous one at 32 weeks so I'm sure hoping I'm not about to produce a baby elephant (they told me he's normal size so should be OK).

I would've had somewhere between 50-100 grams each day, and have avoided coffee until the last couple of weeks (max 2 instant per day now to keep me awake at work) so I think I'm probably within safe limits.

There is no such thing as too much chocolate!!! pmsl

Seriously though as long as you don't have GD you should be fine. Yes choc has caffine in it so I wouldnt go eating 3 large blocks a day or anything but a bit of choc everyday should be ok.

I have however heard rumors that the more sugar you eat the more likely you are to have a bigger baby. Don't know how true it is but Im willing to take the chance at pushing out a few hundred grams more if I am happy munching away on my chocolate while I have a real excuse to LOL.

On choc and pre-eclampsia. The study was based on DARK chocolate. Dark choc has anti-oxidants in it and less sugar because it has a higher cocoa content. White Dark or Milk Ill eat whatever.

yeah i was a bit worried about producing a big baby too, but figured that's more a risk for real gestational diabetes states, not just choc-addicts - hopefully anyways??

I mean, am trying to eat the best for bubs anyways, and am feeling this is my only downfall, but am also glad to hear there are others out there like me and enjoying every moment of indulgence. Of course, if it was going to be bad for bubs I'd cut down, and I'm sure an excess of sugar isn't the best for either of us.

Was just a thought going through my mind as I was eating a fundraiser Crunchie followed by a Freddo Frog - yep!

    love to hear more opinions

Too much chocolate! I've never read such a proposterous statement!!!!!

I am pretty sure it won't produce a big baby, anything excess you goes to your hips and bum I have heard (which is marginally better than having a gigantuous baby, but not much!)!

... off to eat my choc-caramle slice i made yesterday

I wouldn't worry about it ladies- I ate chocolate every day I was pregnant (and still have not kicked the habit) and it didn't effect me or my tiny 2570 gm baby. I've heard to follow your cravings- they will tell you what your body needs and is lacking. And chocolate releases feel good endorphins that have to be good for the baby!! Also heard you need more fat and sugar when you're pregnant to ensure bub's gets all the growing calories and energy they need (don't quote me on that but!).
And besides- what is life without chocolate?

Juleswa, you must have read my mind. I have been meaning to post this for so long and as I was reading yours, I so thought I had actually posted it in my sleep. Thankyou for asking the Q.

When we all have had our babies we should come back and post our babies weights. An unofficial study.

Oh you girls have made me want to go and eat truckloads of junk, I think I will be dropping into Maccas "of course so the kids can have a play" nothing to do with mud muffins and caramel slice and iced chocolates!!!!!!!!!The list goes on

With my last baby, I had a craving for Magnums and had one everyday, well sometimes two, no ill effects, but I still worry that you can have too much.....
I have just polished off a big block of Cadburys black forest in 2 days!!!!!!!And I wonder why the new undies I bought don't fit!!!!
