I am no expert but I don't think it really matters when/if bub engages or not. Alot of babies don't engage until during labour, and I know women whose babies engaged at 32 weeks and got induced two weeks late!
Don't know about the pains though.

Emma engaged at 32 weeks last time, I think it's quite common in first babies. But as for the sharp pains in your cervix, I don't know, that could be a bit of prelabour, or BH.

Em came at 37 weeks, but I don't think it had much to do with when she engaged...

My OB works out the scale with 5/5ths as the starting point and fully engaged is 1/5th.

Some OB's are known to be the opposite, but I thought I'd share that with you because you may not be as far engaged as you think Ask your OB how their scale works.

Pains in the cervix are quite common too. I had lots and liken them to being prodded with a skewer up the hoohaa! Most uncomfortable.

My dr was the opposite to sammi-j, 5/5 is fully engaged. Like she said, every dr is different.
I had severe cervix pains as well for about 3 weeks before having Nina. She started engaging at 30 weeks, at 36 weeks was 3/5, and I had her at 37wk 2days.

Sam, that's exactly how those feel! I've been having those pains for weeks and weeks, and here I am, overdue, so I don't know that they've got anything to do with going early or not.

The pains went on for weeks and right up until the birth. The pain I had when my cervix was dilating was very different though not quite as sharp thank goodness, but an overall pain in the lower tum and pressure in the bum.

Jodi now isn't that just darn annoying that they do that. You'd think it would be a standard thing!

I consider 5/5 engaged means that the baby's head is almost visable and 1/5 is just starting to engage. The pain in your cervix is common
