Going for my 40wk midwives appointment in the morning and was just wondering if anyone new what they do at this appointment. Do they do an internal check? Just wanting to know as I didnt now whether to make the effort and tidy up down there a bit. Don't want to do it if I don't have to. Thanks!
I'd say only do a tidy if you want to... and can be bothered!
I think each MW will approach the 40wk check differently - did she give you any indication at your last appt of what to expect?
At my 40wk appt, I know my Obs is going to do an internal and possibly a stretch and sweep, because we have discussed it. I am huge and getting very sore and not sleeping much at all, so I am keen to see if anything is happening down there.
But my sister, who went to 41+3, did not have an internal before she went into labour. She and bubs were happy so the Dr let her be.
But if you are not comfortable having an internal, or if you are happy to keep waiting and baby is all good and happy, then there's no need for an internal.
At my 40 weeks appointment with my DS they asked if id been having and strong BH and movement, did i feel that bub was lower etc..and offered to do a S&S which i happily agreed too, and to give me a rough idea how dilated i was.
my midwife said they wont do anything unless I ask them to, before 42 weeks, so for me unless something happens between now and then that changes my 'low risk' status 40wk appt will be normal
LOL! my DP is very excited as I've agreed to let him 'practice' his shaving skills on me in the next week as a practice run before the event - i'm terrified what did i agree to?!!
