    Red face Amniotic Band?? HELP

I am kind of freaking out a little bit. I got a call from my Dr. saying he wants me to go up to the special fetal clinic for in depth ultrasound. On my last one she thought she might have seen an amniotic band?? She then begged me to not look it up on the internet as it will only scare me. But I did, and it did scare me. She did say there is a chance she could be wrong. Has anyone else had this happen, or does anyone else have this.

Oh by the way, whatever it is is not attached to the baby.

Oh for those that don't know... an amniotic band is something that didn't fuse right with the uterus and is now floating in the amniotic sac. If it latches onto the baby it could cause that limb to not grow right or become amputated....

I have seen this a few times all being picked up on ultrasound but one. I've seen it 5times 4 of which had no problems but was fine not a single band around any limbs. (I've heard they can tighten around a limb and come out with a band around the arm or leg but not amputate it just be tight) The only other one I have seen was undiagnosed and it was around a finger. The finger was a bit funny looking not as big as the rest but didn't need amputating or any surgery just left it and I guess it would continue to form as bub grew up and be relatively normal. So I wouldn't panick the ones I have seen have being ok. You will find out more I guess and weather you need more scans later on to check the growth of your bubs limbs and things. Obviously there is a risk but it doesn't mean it will cause any problems.

Even if they are innocent sometimes, is there a chance that it could not be an amniotic band. I will find out on monday. Also I don't know if this helps but I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped).
    thanks

Yes I guess thats why they want it followed up just to be sure its either there or not there and get advise from the specialists. If it is there I think the only thing they would do at this time is observe it with ultrasounds. Having a bicornuate uterus shouldn't make a difference I don't think.

Oh Jessica, I'd be in a panic too! They are sending you for the indepth because they are so very hard to identify on Ultrasounds and thus they are wrong a lot of the time. I have my fingers crossed that they are wrong this time too!

I am not sure if its good or not as I have ever heard of it before, but a heart shaped uterus actually sounds so beautiful. I will look it up though.

    That is great news!!

I was just going to post that I have a septate uterus (also referred to as heart shaped uterus), I also had an amniotic band, got a great 3D shot off DD's legs resting on it @ 29 weeks. She would spin around the band

We ended up missing out on see if it came out during delivery, as it was all a bit rushed and we forgot but we will see next time I guess if it is still there!

Enjoy a nice and uneventful pregnancy from here on in!!
