    Another Glucose test

    Hi all,

I had a glucose torelance test on Friday and my Ob's receptionist rang me and told me to take another one.

Any idea why? She has no idea and said that my ob just told me I needed another test.

I am worried they might have found that I have gestational diabetes? Does that affect the baby?

    THanks all!

    Hi
I think generally where the reading suggests GD they like to do another test to be sure - people can have odd readings where GD may be indicated, but may not actually have it, if you see what I mean. Or maybe the result was borderline, so they want to do another test to see what results you get.

Hope your second test goes well. Can you call and speak to your OB directly to find out more?

    Good luck.

If you did an hour test the first time it might have shown a slightly higher then normal reading. So therefore they want you to do a 3 hour test.. Which requires fasting and sitting for 3 hours...

Gd can effect the baby but you need to watch your diet and exercise.. There are threads on here about it..

ps I have had GD all 4 times and insulin the last 3..

I had my GTT done a few days after xmas, then 2 days later I got a call from my obs mw saying my level was 10.5 (shouldn't have been higher than 7.8) and I had to do a 2.5 hour test (which just involved fasting from the midnight, and then having a blood test at the start, drinking a stronger sugary drink, then having 2 more blood tests, one in the middle and one at the end of the 2.5 hours) the following monday (new years eve) I really did expect it to come back positive, but no, everything was fine. If it does come back positive, you basically just have to watch what you eat for the remainder of the pregnancy, and your baby may be born slightly heavier than average.

Good luck with your second test.

    Thank you all!

Hopefully mine comes back okay too. I am also soo scared of injections but will do anything for the baby.

    Thanks for the responses =)

With my second baby I did the 1hr test and got a slightly high reading so my OB sent me back for a 2hr test and my levels came back with in normal range however this baby I did the 2hr test first up and got high readings so I have GD but have been able to control it with diet. It's been a wake up call for me though and has forced me to watch what I eat etc I feel so fit and healthy this pgcy and I've only put on 10kgs all up I'm still comfortably walking 2km a day at 38weeks so I'm hoping recovery will be easy.
